PRINCE2F PRINCE2 Practices Practice Test 45 — 15 Questions

Question 1

Which TWO are roles that are part of the Project Board?

Accepted Answer

Senior User. The Senior User (D) and the Executive (E) are two of the three mandatory roles on the PRINCE2 Project Board, alongside the Senior Supplier. The Executive is the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) who owns the business case and has ultimate authority, while the Senior User represents the interests of those who will use the project's outputs. These roles are defined in the PRINCE2 'Organization' theme and are essential for project governance.

Answer

Project Manager

Answer

Project Assurance

Answer

Team Manager

Question 2

Which TWO statements about PRINCE2's management by exception are correct?

Accepted Answer

If a tolerance is forecast to be exceeded, the Project Manager must escalate. Option C is correct because under PRINCE2's management-by-exception principle, the Project Manager must escalate to the next management level (the Project Board) as soon as it is forecast that an agreed tolerance will be exceeded, rather than waiting for the breach to occur. Option E is correct because management by exception delegates authority to the Project Manager to make day-to-day decisions autonomously as long as actual and forecast performance remains within the agreed tolerances. Option A is wrong because PRINCE2 defines six tolerance areas — time, cost, scope, quality, risk, and benefit — not just time and cost. Option B is wrong because the Project Board sets project-level tolerances (and the corporate/programme layer sets programme or corporate tolerances); the Project Manager may propose them but does not set them. Option D is wrong because the whole point of management by exception is that the Project Board is not involved in day-to-day decisions, only in exception situations and at stage boundaries.

Answer

Tolerances apply only to time and cost

Answer

The Project Manager sets the project's tolerances

Answer

The Project Board is involved in all day-to-day decisions

Question 3

Which THREE of the following are threat response types in PRINCE2?

Accepted Answer

Avoid. In PRINCE2, threat response types are specific strategies for dealing with negative risks (threats). 'Avoid' (Option A) is a valid threat response that involves changing the plan to eliminate the threat or protect the project from its impact. 'Transfer' (Option C) shifts the financial impact of a threat to a third party, such as through insurance or a fixed-price contract. 'Accept' (Option E) acknowledges the threat and takes no proactive action, often with a contingency plan in place. These three are explicitly listed in the PRINCE2 risk management practice.

Answer

Enhance

Answer

Exploit

Question 4

Which THREE of the following are steps in the PRINCE2 risk management procedure?

Accepted Answer

Plan. The risk management procedure steps are: Identify, Assess, Plan, Implement, Communicate.

Answer

Monitor

Answer

Analyze

Question 5

Which TWO are types of issue in PRINCE2?

Accepted Answer

Request for Change. In PRINCE2, an issue is a relevant event that has occurred and requires management attention. The two defined types of issue are Request for Change (a proposal for a change to the product's specification or baseline) and Off-specification (something that should be provided but is not, or is provided incorrectly). These are formally documented and managed through the issue and change control procedure.

Answer

Opportunity

Answer

Risk

Answer

Constraint

Question 6

A project is in the Initiating a Project process and the Project Manager is preparing the Project Plan. Which technique is recommended by PRINCE2 for creating the Project Plan?

Accepted Answer

Product-Based Planning. PRINCE2 recommends Product-Based Planning as the technique for creating the Project Plan. This approach focuses on defining the project's products (outputs) and their required quality criteria, then breaking them down into a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) and mapping the sequence of activities needed to create them. It ensures the plan is driven by the deliverables rather than activities, aligning with PRINCE2's product focus.

Answer

Work Breakdown Structure

Answer

Critical Path Analysis

Answer

Earned Value Management

Question 7

Which THREE of the following are characteristics of PRINCE2's product-based planning approach?

Accepted Answer

It uses a Product Breakdown Structure. Product-based planning in PRINCE2 begins by identifying the products the project must deliver, and option A is correct because it uses a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) to hierarchically decompose the final product into its component products. Option C is correct because it creates a Product Flow Diagram (PFD) to show the sequence and dependencies between products, i.e., which products must be produced before others. Option D is correct because it creates a Product Description for each product, documenting its purpose, composition, quality criteria, and quality method. Option B is not a characteristic of product-based planning; products are not prioritised by quality criteria, which are instead defined within each Product Description. Option E is incorrect because product-based planning starts by identifying products, not activities — activities are derived from the products and their dependencies.

Answer

It prioritises products based on their quality criteria

Answer

It starts by identifying activities and then determines products

Question 8

Which TWO statements about the Change Authority are true?

Accepted Answer

It has the authority to approve changes within a defined limit. The Change Authority is a role defined in PRINCE2 that is granted the authority to approve changes within a defined limit, such as a cost or time threshold. This limit is typically set by the Project Board in the Project Initiation Documentation, and the Change Authority can be an individual (e.g., a senior user) or a group (e.g., a change board). Option A is incorrect because the Change Authority is defined in the Change Control Approach, not the Configuration Management Approach. Option D is incorrect because the Change Authority is not always the Project Manager; it is a separate role with delegated authority. Option E is incorrect because maintaining Configuration Item Records is the responsibility of the Configuration Librarian, not the Change Authority.

Answer

It is defined in the Configuration Management Approach

Answer

It is always the Project Manager

Answer

It is responsible for maintaining the Configuration Item Records

Question 9

An issue is raised that a product delivered by a supplier does not include a feature that was agreed in the product description. The Project Manager determines that the product is still usable without the feature. What type of issue is this?

Accepted Answer

Off-specification. An Off-specification is something that should be provided but is not (or is provided but does not meet specifications). A Request for Change is a proposed change. A Problem/Concern is a general issue. Here, the feature is missing, so it's an Off-specification.

Answer

Request for Change

Answer

Problem/Concern

Answer

Risk

Question 10

During a stage, the Project Manager receives a Checkpoint Report from a Team Manager indicating that the team has implemented a workaround for an off-specification without prior approval. What should the Project Manager do?

Accepted Answer

Raise an Issue Report and assess the impact of the workaround. In PRINCE2, any off-specification (a product that does not meet its specification) must be treated as an issue and formally managed. The Team Manager implementing a workaround without approval is a deviation from the agreed plan and tolerances, so the Project Manager must raise an Issue Report to capture the problem, assess the impact on the project's business case, and decide on the appropriate action—which may include accepting the workaround, rejecting it, or escalating.

Answer

Accept the workaround as it has already been implemented

Answer

Update the Configuration Item Record to reflect the change

Answer

Instruct the Team Manager to reverse the workaround immediately

Question 11

Which type of report is produced by the Project Manager to provide the Project Board with a summary of progress at the end of each stage?

Accepted Answer

End Stage Report. The End Stage Report is the correct answer because PRINCE2 requires the Project Manager to produce this report at the end of each management stage to provide the Project Board with a summary of progress against the current stage plan, including performance, lessons learned, and a forecast for the next stage. This report is a key input for the Project Board's decision to authorize the next stage or take corrective action.

Answer

Highlight Report

Answer

Checkpoint Report

Answer

Exception Report

Question 12

Which THREE of the following are threat responses defined in PRINCE2?

Accepted Answer

Accept. In PRINCE2, the risk management approach defines a set of threat responses that can be applied to risks that would have a negative impact on the project. Option B (Accept) is correct because PRINCE2 explicitly lists 'accept' as a valid threat response, meaning the project team decides to tolerate the risk without taking proactive action, often documenting a contingency plan. Option C (Transfer) is correct because PRINCE2 includes 'transfer' as a threat response, where the financial impact of a threat is shifted to a third party, for example through insurance, warranties, or fixed-price contracts. Option D (Avoid) is correct because PRINCE2 defines 'avoid' as a threat response, which involves changing the project scope, approach, or plan to eliminate the threat entirely or protect the project from its impact. Options A (Enhance) and E (Exploit) are not threat responses in PRINCE2; they are opportunity responses used to increase the probability or impact of positive risks, and therefore do not belong in this list of threat responses.

Answer

Enhance

Answer

Exploit

Question 13

In the Organising practice, what is the principle behind separating assurance from management?

Accepted Answer

To provide independent oversight of the project's management and delivery. In PRINCE2, the principle of separating assurance from management ensures that those who are responsible for the project's day-to-day management (the Project Manager) are not the same individuals who verify that the project is being managed correctly and remains viable. Option D is correct because assurance provides an independent, objective check on the project's management and delivery, protecting the Project Board's interests without being involved in the execution. This separation prevents conflicts of interest and ensures that assurance activities (e.g., reviewing compliance with the Business Case, quality standards, and risks) are unbiased.

Answer

To ensure that the Senior User approves all changes

Answer

To allow the Project Board to monitor the project without direct involvement

Answer

To reduce the workload of the Project Manager

Question 14

Which TWO of the following are types of issue in PRINCE2's Change practice?

Accepted Answer

Off-specification. In PRINCE2's Change practice, issues are categorized into two specific types: Request for Change (RFC) and Off-specification. Option B (Off-specification) is correct because it represents a situation where a product or project is not meeting its agreed specification, which is a formal issue type that must be managed through the change control process. Option E (Request for Change) is correct because it is the other formal issue type, used when someone wants to change a baseline (such as a product's specification, a plan, or a stage boundary) after it has been approved. The other options do not belong: Risk (A) is managed in the Risk practice, not as an issue type; Quality defect (C) is a specific kind of problem that would typically be raised as an Off-specification or RFC, but it is not a distinct issue type in PRINCE2; and Exception (D) is a management-level deviation from tolerance handled in the Progress practice, not a Change practice issue type.

Answer

Risk

Answer

Quality defect

Answer

Exception

Question 15

During the Managing Product Delivery process, what is the Team Manager responsible for producing?

Accepted Answer

Checkpoint Report. During the Managing Product Delivery process, the Team Manager is responsible for producing the Checkpoint Report. This report provides a regular update on progress against the Work Package, including actual time and resources used, quality activities completed, and any issues or risks. It is the primary communication from the Team Manager to the Project Manager during the work delivery phase.

Answer

End Stage Report

Answer

Exception Report

Answer

Highlight Report
