PRINCE2-PRACTITIONER Quick Quiz — 10 Questions

Question 1

In the PRINCE2 Organizing practice, what is the primary role of Project Assurance?

Accepted Answer

To provide independent monitoring of project performance across business, user, and supplier perspectives.. Project Assurance in PRINCE2 provides independent monitoring and oversight of the project on behalf of the Project Board, covering the business, user, and supplier perspectives. It ensures the project remains justified, viable, and compliant with PRINCE2 principles, and reports concerns to the Board. This independence is what distinguishes it from project management or delivery roles.

Answer

To own the project Business Case and provide funding.

Answer

To write the detailed product descriptions and build deliverables.

Answer

To manage day-to-day work packages and team tasks.

Question 2

Which THREE of the following management products are produced during the Managing a Stage Boundary process to support progress governance?

Accepted Answer

Next Stage Plan. The Managing a Stage Boundary process produces three key management products for progress governance: the Next Stage Plan (A), which provides the detailed plan for the upcoming stage and is approved by the Project Board; the Updated Business Case (B), which reassesses the project's viability and benefits at each stage boundary; and the End Stage Report (E), which summarizes the performance of the stage just completed and supports the Project Board's decision to authorize the next stage. These three products together give the Project Board the information needed to review progress, confirm continued business justification, and approve the next stage. The Project Brief (C) is a pre-project product created during Starting up a Project, not at a stage boundary, and the Checkpoint Report (D) is produced during stage execution as part of Controlling a Stage, not by Managing a Stage Boundary.

Answer

Project Brief

Answer

Checkpoint Report

Question 3

A project is utilizing an iterative delivery approach. The Project Manager is establishing plans for the upcoming management stage. How should product dependencies be documented when planning iterative increments?

Accepted Answer

By constructing a Product Flow Diagram to map out product dependencies.. In PRINCE2, the Product Flow Diagram is the technique used to map product dependencies, showing the order in which products must be developed and how they relate. When planning iterative increments, the Project Manager should use a Product Flow Diagram to document these dependencies so that each increment delivers a coherent set of products.

Answer

By delegating dependency mapping entirely to corporate quality assurance.

Answer

By relying solely on verbal agreements during daily stand-ups.

Answer

By listing them in the Risk Register under external threats.

Question 4

During the Initiating a Project (IP) process, the Project Manager is setting up controls. Which activity involves defining how issues and risks will be logged, assessed, and managed throughout the project?

Accepted Answer

Setting up the project controls. In the Initiating a Project process, the 'Setting up the project controls' activity defines the mechanisms for monitoring and controlling the project, including how issues and risks will be logged, assessed, and managed. This activity establishes the Issue Register, Risk Register, and change control approach. It ensures that controls are in place before the project proceeds.

Answer

Assembling the Project Management Plan

Answer

Refining the Business Case

Answer

Preparing the Project Initiation Documentation

Question 5

In the PRINCE2 Business Case practice, what is the document that records the justification for undertaking a project based on estimated costs, benefits, risks, and ESG impacts?

Accepted Answer

Business Case. The Business Case is the document that records the justification for undertaking a project, based on estimated costs, benefits, risks, and ESG impacts. Option A correctly identifies this document, which is a key PRINCE2 7 management product. It is used to support the continued business justification principle and is reviewed at each stage boundary.

Answer

Project Brief

Answer

End Project Report

Answer

Benefits Management Approach

Question 6

Which PRINCE2 process runs from the initial pre-project phase until the project is successfully initiated or aborted?

Accepted Answer

Starting up a Project. Starting up a Project is the pre-project process that runs from the initial mandate until the project is either successfully initiated (i.e., the Project Brief is approved and the board authorizes initiation) or aborted. It produces the Project Brief, the outline Business Case, the project approach, and the daily log, and appoints the project management team. It is deliberately short and ends with the 'Authorize Initiation' decision by the Project Board.

Answer

Initiating a Project

Answer

Controlling a Stage

Answer

Directing a Project

Question 7

A project is currently executing the Controlling a Stage (CS) process. The Project Manager notices that cumulative actual costs are tracking significantly below budget while progress is on schedule. What should the Project Manager do?

Accepted Answer

Report the variance in the next Highlight Report and assess if it impacts stage tolerances or forecasts.. In PRINCE2, the Project Manager must monitor and control the stage, and any variance from the Stage Plan, including underspend, should be reported in the Highlight Report. The Project Manager should also assess whether the underspend impacts stage tolerances or forecasts, as it might indicate that the stage will complete under budget, which could affect the Business Case or the next stage. This aligns with the 'Manage by Exception' principle and the need for accurate reporting.

Answer

Automatically initiate the Closing a Project process early.

Answer

Secretly reallocate the surplus funds to personal bonuses without informing anyone.

Answer

Ignore the underspend since being under budget never requires management attention.

Question 8

In the PRINCE2 Progress practice, what mechanism is used to establish the limits of authority delegated by the Project Board to the Project Manager?

Accepted Answer

Tolerances. Tolerances in PRINCE2 are the limits of authority delegated by the Project Board to the Project Manager. They define the permissible deviation from the project plan before the Project Manager must escalate to the Project Board. Option C is correct because tolerances establish these limits.

Answer

Checklist Reports

Answer

Stage Boundaries

Answer

Highlight Reports

Question 9

A project is implementing a major organizational transformation. The risk management team identifies a severe cultural resistance threat from middle management. The organization decides to appoint change champions across all departments and redesign performance incentives to align with the new vision. Which risk response is being implemented?

Accepted Answer

Mitigate. Mitigate is the correct response because the actions taken—appointing change champions and redesigning performance incentives—are aimed at reducing the probability and/or impact of the cultural resistance threat. Mitigation involves proactive measures to lessen the risk, which aligns with the described approach.

Answer

Transfer

Answer

Avoid

Answer

Accept

Question 10

A project is in the Directing a Project process. Which THREE of the following decisions represent formal responsibilities of the Project Board within this process?

Accepted Answer

Authorizing project initiation. In PRINCE2, the Directing a Project process defines the Project Board's decision-making authority at key points, and option A (Authorizing project initiation) is correct because the Board must approve the Project Brief and authorize the Initiation Stage to begin. Option B (Authorizing project closure) is correct because the Board confirms that the project has delivered its products and approves the End Project Report to formally close the project. Option E (Authorizing a Stage Plan or Exception Plan) is correct because the Board gives the Project Manager authority to proceed with each management stage by approving its Stage Plan, and it approves an Exception Plan when tolerances are forecast to be exceeded. Option C is not a Board responsibility because Team Plans are drafted by the Team Manager for the work packages within a stage. Option D is not a Board responsibility because the Project Initiation Documentation is written by the Project Manager, with the Board only reviewing and approving it.

Answer

Drafting the detailed Team Plans for specialist delivery

Answer

Writing the Project Initiation Documentation
