VLANs and 802.1Q trunking

Create VLANs on two switches, assign access ports, and build a trunk with a restricted allowed list and native VLAN 99.

About 20 minutes 6 devices 6 tasksBeginner

Scenario

Sales (VLAN 10) and HR (VLAN 20) have people on both floors. Each floor has a 2960 switch, cabled together on GigabitEthernet0/1. Create the VLANs, put the PCs in the right VLANs, and trunk the switches so each department can reach its colleagues on the other floor. For security the trunk must carry only VLANs 10, 20 and 99, with 99 as the native VLAN. The PCs already have their IP addresses.

Your tasks

  1. On SW1 create VLAN 10 named SALES, VLAN 20 named HR and VLAN 99 named NATIVE.
  2. Create the same three VLANs on SW2.
  3. Make Fa0/1 an access port in VLAN 10 and Fa0/2 an access port in VLAN 20 on both switches.
  4. Trunk Gi0/1 between the switches: static trunk, native VLAN 99, allowed VLANs 10, 20 and 99 only.
  5. PC1 can ping PC3 in VLAN 10 (Sales), across the trunk.
  6. PC2 can ping PC4 in VLAN 20 (HR), across the trunk.

The lab checks the result, not the exact commands. For example, a ping task passes only when the ping really succeeds through the network you built.
