SNOW-CSA Practice Test 16 — 15 Questions

Question 1

A company wants to allow users to submit requests via email. What must be configured?

Accepted Answer

Inbound email action. To allow users to submit requests via email, an inbound email action must be configured. This action processes incoming emails and creates or updates records (e.g., incidents or service catalog requests) based on the email content. Outbound email actions are for sending emails, not receiving them.

Answer

Outbound email action

Answer

Email notifications

Answer

Email client plugin

Question 2

Which TWO methods allow an administrator to make a field read-only on a form? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Create a UI policy that sets the field to read-only when a condition is true. A UI policy can dynamically set a field to read-only based on a specified condition, such as a particular state or value. This allows administrators to control field editability at runtime without permanently altering the field's definition. Option D is correct because setting the 'Read only' attribute in the dictionary entry makes the field read-only globally across all forms and views, providing a static, system-wide restriction.

Answer

Configure the form layout to hide the field

Answer

Create an ACL that denies write access

Answer

Add the field to a related list

Question 3

A catalog item uses a Variable Editor to capture complex data. The user submits the request but the variable data is not stored in the sys_variable_value table. What could be the reason?

Accepted Answer

The variable is not configured to 'Store value'.. The 'Store value' checkbox on a variable definition controls whether the submitted value is persisted in the sys_variable_value table. If this checkbox is unchecked, the variable's data is captured during the request but is not saved to the database, which matches the symptom described in the question.

Answer

The variable is set to 'Read only'.

Answer

The Variable Editor is not included in the catalog item's workflow.

Answer

The variable type is 'Lookup Select'.

Question 4

An administrator creates an Application Menu with a condition and adds a module to it. Users with the correct role cannot see the module. The module has no roles restriction. What could be the issue?

Accepted Answer

The menu's condition fails for those users. The menu's condition may fail for those users, hiding the module. Option B would hide the module for all users if it were inactive. Option C would hide the entire menu for all users if it were inactive. Option D means no role restriction, so it should be visible, but the menu condition overrides.

Answer

The module is inactive

Answer

The application menu is not active

Answer

The module's roles are empty

Question 5

A ServiceNow administrator is troubleshooting a notification issue. The company has a 'Customer Satisfaction Survey' notification that is supposed to send an email to the 'caller' of an incident when the incident state changes to 'Resolved' (state=6). The notification is configured with table 'incident', condition 'state changes to 6', and recipient 'caller'. However, the email is not being sent. The administrator checks the system log and finds no errors. The notification has an advanced script that checks if the 'caller' has a valid email address. The script is: if (current.caller_id.email == '') { return false; }. The administrator confirms that the caller's email field is populated. What is the most likely reason the notification is not sending?

Accepted Answer

The advanced script should be removed because it is blocking valid emails.. The advanced script in the notification must explicitly return true to send the email. If no value is returned, the notification is suppressed. The script only returns false when the email is an empty string; otherwise it falls through without returning a value, which blocks the notification even when the caller has a valid email. Removing the script eliminates this blockage and allows the notification to send as intended. The condition 'state changes to 6' correctly triggers on transition to Resolved, and the recipient field 'caller' is properly configured. The other options suggest changes that would not fix the real issue.

Answer

The notification condition should be 'state is 6' rather than 'state changes to 6'.

Answer

The script should check for null instead of empty string.

Answer

The recipient field should use the email field directly instead of the reference 'caller'.

Question 6

A company needs to make a field mandatory only when a checkbox is checked. Which feature should the administrator use?

Accepted Answer

UI Policy. UI Policy is the correct choice because it allows an administrator to make a field mandatory, visible, or read-only based on a condition evaluated on the client side without a server round-trip. When the checkbox is checked, the UI Policy condition triggers the mandatory attribute on the target field, providing immediate user feedback. This is the standard approach for client-side conditional mandatory fields in ServiceNow.

Answer

Client Script

Answer

Data Policy

Answer

Business Rule

Question 7

A user reports that a catalog item is not visible to them, but other users in the same department can see it. What is the most likely cause?

Accepted Answer

User criteria restricts visibility. User criteria is a visibility rule applied to catalog items that restricts which users or groups can see the item in the service catalog. If one user cannot see the item while others in the same department can, the most likely cause is that the user criteria on the catalog item excludes that specific user, either by user, role, group, or location criteria.

Answer

The item is in a different category

Answer

The item is out of stock

Answer

The item is not active

Question 8

Which feature should be used to allow users to track the status of their service catalog requests via the self-service portal?

Accepted Answer

My Requests module. The My Requests module in ServiceNow provides users with a dedicated view to track the status, stage, and approval progress of their service catalog requests. It displays all requests submitted by the user, including those from both the service catalog and other request sources, and allows them to see real-time updates without needing ITIL roles or elevated permissions.

Answer

My Items module

Answer

Service Catalog module

Answer

Requested Items related list

Question 9

A company wants to allow users to submit requests for new software installations through the Service Portal. The catalog item should show different options based on the user's department. Which feature should be configured on the catalog item to achieve this?

Accepted Answer

Variable visibility conditions. Variable visibility conditions allow you to control which catalog item variables are displayed to users based on conditions such as the user's department field. When a user from a specific department submits a request, only the variables that match their department's visibility condition will appear, enabling dynamic form behavior without creating separate catalog items.

Answer

Variable order

Answer

Catalog item templates

Answer

User criteria

Question 10

A company wants to display a custom field on the incident form only when the incident state is 'In Progress'. Which configuration should be used?

Accepted Answer

Create a UI Policy with a condition on state and set field visibility. UI Policies allow you to define a condition (e.g., incident.state == 'In Progress') and then set field-level actions such as making a field visible or mandatory. This is the intended declarative mechanism for controlling field visibility based on form state without writing code.

Answer

Modify the Dictionary Override to set a default visibility condition

Answer

Configure an Access Control Rule (ACL) on the field

Answer

Write a Business Rule that updates the field visibility attribute

Question 11

Refer to the exhibit. A UI Policy is configured with the above condition to make the 'resolution_notes' field mandatory when the variable 'state' is 2. When state is set to 2, the field is still not mandatory. What is the most likely issue?

Accepted Answer

The condition uses 'state' instead of 'variables.state'. In ServiceNow UI Policies, when referencing a variable on a catalog item or record producer, you must prefix the variable name with 'variables.' (e.g., 'variables.state') because the condition is evaluated against the variable map, not the field directly. Using 'state' alone refers to the field on the current table (e.g., the task table), which is not the same as the catalog variable 'state'. Therefore, the condition never matches when the variable is set to 2, so the UI Policy does not fire.

Answer

The field is not in the form layout

Answer

The UI Policy is inactive

Answer

The UI Policy is set to run on submit only

Question 12

When configuring a form, you want to add a new section. What is the correct approach?

Accepted Answer

Use the form designer. Adding a new section to a form in ServiceNow is done through the Form Designer, which provides a drag-and-drop interface for arranging fields, sections, and layout on a specific view. The Form Designer is the supported tool for modifying form layout without touching the underlying table schema.

Answer

Modify the default view

Answer

Create a UI action

Answer

Edit the table schema

Question 13

A catalog item uses a variable that should be mandatory only if the user selects a specific option in a previous variable. Which approach is best?

Accepted Answer

Use a UI policy. A UI policy is the correct approach because it allows you to make a variable mandatory conditionally based on the value of another variable, without requiring a server round-trip. UI policies run client-side and can show, hide, or set mandatory status on variables dynamically when a specific option is selected in a previous variable.

Answer

Use a catalog client script with onChange

Answer

Use a default value

Answer

Use a variable set

Question 14

During a catalog item checkout, the system fails to create the requested item record. The flow that triggers on 'Requested' state runs but fails. Which log should be examined first?

Accepted Answer

System log > Flow. The flow that runs on the 'Requested' state is a Flow Designer flow, and its execution details—including errors, inputs, outputs, and step failures—are logged in System Log > Flow. This log provides the most direct and granular view of why the flow failed, such as a missing reference or a script action error.

Answer

System log > Security

Answer

System log > Workflow

Answer

System log > Scripts

Question 15

A user wants to quickly filter the incident list to show only high-priority incidents. What is the fastest way to apply this filter?

Accepted Answer

Use the filter condition builder above the list. The filter condition builder above the list provides a quick, ad-hoc way to apply a filter directly to the current list view without any configuration changes. In ServiceNow, this builder allows users to add conditions like 'Priority is High' in seconds, making it the fastest method for a one-time filter.

Answer

Modify the query business rule for the incident table

Answer

Create a new report with a filter condition

Answer

Personalize the list view to add a filter condition
