MB-910 Describe Dynamics 365 Field Service Practice Test 12 — 15 Questions

Question 1

A company uses Dynamics 365 Field Service and wants to integrate with an external IoT platform to receive alerts. The alerts should create work orders in Field Service. Which integration method should they use?

Choose an answer to begin — your selection is scored in the full session.

Accepted Answer

Use Connected Field Service with Azure IoT Hub.. Connected Field Service with Azure IoT Hub is the standard integration method for ingesting IoT alerts and creating work orders in Dynamics 365 Field Service. Option A is incorrect because the Data Export Service is designed for exporting data for analytics, not for real-time work order creation. Option B is incorrect while a custom API endpoint could be built, it is not the recommended integration method; Connected Field Service provides out-of-the-box functionality. Option D is incorrect because Power Automate polling is not reliable for real-time IoT alerts and lacks native IoT connectivity.

Answer

Use Dynamics 365 Data Export Service.

Answer

Build a custom API endpoint.

Answer

Use Power Automate to poll the external IoT platform.

Question 2

A field service manager wants to see the real-time location of all technicians on a map. Which feature should they use?

Accepted Answer

Schedule Board (Map view). The Schedule Board in Dynamics 365 Field Service offers a Map view that plots technicians' real-time locations alongside their scheduled jobs, letting dispatchers see geographic proximity and reassign work efficiently. It pulls live location data from the Field Service mobile app's geolocation tracking. This is the purpose-built visualisation for the manager's requirement.

Answer

Resource Scheduling Optimization

Answer

Connected Field Service dashboard

Answer

Field Service Mobile app

Question 3

A company uses Dynamics 365 Field Service and wants to ensure that technicians have the required certifications before being assigned to certain work orders. Which TWO configurations should be set up?

Accepted Answer

Add certification requirements to resource requirements on work orders.. Option C is correct because resource requirements on a work order can include specific characteristics, and Dynamics 365 Field Service uses these requirements to filter and match only qualified resources during scheduling. Option E is correct because certifications are modeled as resource characteristics (skills) in Field Service; adding a certification as a characteristic to a resource and requiring it on the work order ensures the schedule assistant and Resource Scheduling Optimization only propose technicians who hold it. Option A is incorrect because booking statuses track the lifecycle of a booking (Scheduled, Traveling, In Progress, Completed) and do not enforce or verify certification prerequisites. Option B is incorrect because service territories define geographic coverage and organizational boundaries, not technician qualifications. Option D is incorrect because inspection templates define the checklist or form a technician completes on a work order and have no role in certification-based resource matching.

Answer

Set booking statuses to 'Completed' only when certification is verified.

Answer

Configure service territories for each certification.

Answer

Create inspection templates for each certification.

Question 4

A field service organization wants to use Dynamics 365 Field Service to manage preventive maintenance contracts. Which THREE features should they configure?

Accepted Answer

Work Order Types. Option B (Work Order Types) is correct because preventive maintenance contracts generate recurring work orders, and Work Order Types let you categorize and template those work orders (e.g., a 'Preventive Maintenance' type) so they carry the right defaults and process flow. Option D (Service Tasks) is correct because Service Tasks define the checklist of individual steps or procedures that technicians must perform on each preventive maintenance visit, ensuring consistent execution of the contract's required tasks. Option E (Agreements) is correct because Agreements in Dynamics 365 Field Service are the specific feature used to define and auto-generate recurring preventive maintenance work orders based on schedules, dates, and customer contracts. Option A (Inventory Adjustments) is not correct because inventory adjustments only reconcile stock quantities and are unrelated to setting up preventive maintenance contracts. Option C (Resource Scheduling Optimization) is not correct because RSO is an optional scheduling automation add-on that optimizes resource assignments, not a required feature for configuring preventive maintenance contracts.

Answer

Inventory Adjustments

Answer

Resource Scheduling Optimization

Question 5

Contoso Ltd. provides HVAC maintenance services and uses Dynamics 365 Field Service. They have 50 technicians organized into three service territories: North, South, and Central. Each technician has specific skills and certifications. Contoso wants to automatically assign emergency work orders to the nearest available technician with the required skills within 30 minutes of creation. Additionally, they want to ensure that no technician is assigned more than 8 hours of work per day. The dispatchers should be able to override automatic assignments if necessary. Which configuration should Contoso implement?

Accepted Answer

Configure Resource Scheduling Optimization with constraints for proximity, skills, and daily hours, and set auto-scheduling frequency to 30 minutes.. Resource Scheduling Optimization (RSO) is the Dynamics 365 Field Service feature purpose-built for automatically assigning work orders based on constraints such as proximity, skills, and working hours, and it can be scheduled to run at a defined frequency (e.g., every 30 minutes). RSO respects booking statuses, resource availability, and daily hour limits, and dispatchers can still manually override results on the Schedule Board. This directly satisfies all stated requirements: auto-assignment within 30 minutes, skill/proximity matching, 8-hour daily cap, and dispatcher override capability.

Answer

Create a Power Automate flow that runs every 30 minutes and assigns work orders using the Schedule Board API.

Answer

Use manual scheduling with the Schedule Board and train dispatchers to check availability and skills.

Answer

Enable Connected Field Service to automatically generate work orders and use the default scheduling logic.

Question 6

Northwind Traders uses Dynamics 365 Field Service to manage field operations for electrical repairs. They have 200 technicians and 10 dispatchers. Currently, dispatchers manually assign work orders using the Schedule Board. Northwind wants to improve efficiency by automatically assigning work orders based on technician proximity, skills, and availability. They also want to optimize travel time by grouping work orders in the same geographic area. However, they want dispatchers to have final control over assignments. Which solution should Northwind implement?

Accepted Answer

Configure Resource Scheduling Optimization to suggest optimized schedules and require dispatcher approval before finalizing.. Resource Scheduling Optimization (RSO) in Dynamics 365 Field Service automatically assigns work orders based on proximity, skills, and availability, and optimizes travel time by grouping nearby work orders. To retain dispatcher control, RSO can be configured to generate optimized schedules as suggestions that dispatchers must approve before finalizing. This meets the requirement for automatic assignment with final human oversight.

Answer

Set up Resource Scheduling Optimization to automatically apply schedules without dispatcher intervention.

Answer

Continue using manual scheduling but provide additional training to dispatchers on efficient assignment.

Answer

Implement Connected Field Service to automatically create work orders and assign them.

Question 7

Fabrikam Inc. provides IT support services and uses Dynamics 365 Field Service. They have recently started using IoT devices to monitor their customers' servers. When a server temperature exceeds a threshold, an alert is sent to Fabrikam's Field Service system. Fabrikam wants to automatically create a work order for the alert and assign it to a technician with the necessary server skills. The technician should receive a notification on their mobile device. Which combination of features should Fabrikam use?

Accepted Answer

Connected Field Service to create work orders from IoT alerts, Resource Scheduling Optimization to auto-assign based on skills, and Field Service Mobile app for notifications.. Connected Field Service is the native Dynamics 365 Field Service capability that ingests IoT alerts from Azure IoT Hub and automatically creates work orders based on alert rules. Resource Scheduling Optimization (RSO) then automatically assigns those work orders to technicians based on skills, location, and availability — satisfying the 'necessary server skills' requirement. The Field Service Mobile app delivers push notifications to the technician's device, completing the end-to-end automated flow.

Answer

Power Automate to create work orders from IoT alerts, manual assignment via Schedule Board, and email notifications.

Answer

Connected Field Service to create work orders, Customer Portal for assignment, and Field Service Mobile app for notifications.

Answer

A custom integration to create work orders, manual assignment, and text messages.

Question 8

A field service organization uses Dynamics 365 Field Service to manage work orders. Technicians report that their mobile app does not show the customer's asset details even though the asset is linked to the work order. You need to ensure asset details are visible on the mobile app. What should you configure?

Accepted Answer

Configure the Field Service Mobile configuration to include asset details.. The correct option is A: Configure the Field Service Mobile configuration to include asset details. The Field Service Mobile app uses the Mobile Configuration (msdyn_mobileappconfiguration) to control which entities, views, and forms are available offline and on the technician's device, so asset details will only appear if the Customer Asset entity and its related views are added to that configuration. Options B, C, and D do not control mobile app content: Field Service settings in the admin center govern scheduling and work order behavior, work order types define incident/priority templates rather than mobile views, and the Bookable Resource record only defines the technician's resource attributes and does not affect which entities the mobile app displays.

Answer

Modify the field service settings in the Dynamics 365 admin center.

Answer

Change the work order type to include asset details.

Answer

Update the Bookable Resource record for each technician.

Question 9

A company uses Dynamics 365 Field Service and wants to integrate with an external IoT platform to receive alerts. The alerts should create work orders in Field Service. Which integration method should they use?

Choose an answer to begin — your selection is scored in the full session.

Accepted Answer

The device that sent the alert is not registered in Dynamics 365 Field Service.. The correct answer is C: the device that sent the alert is not registered in Dynamics 365 Field Service. In Connected Field Service, an IoT alert must be associated with a registered device (customer asset) before the system can map it to the correct service account and trigger the automated work order creation process; if the device is unregistered, the alert is received but no work order is generated. Option A is incorrect because a missing work order template would typically result in a different failure mode or error, not the silent absence of a work order for a specific alert. Option B is incorrect because if IoT Hub were not configured at all, no IoT alerts would flow into Field Service, not just this one. Option D is incorrect because the scenario states an IoT alert was sent, and the source being Azure IoT Hub is the expected integration path, so this would not explain the missing work order.

Answer

The work order template for high-temperature alerts is not configured.

Answer

The IoT Hub connection is not configured in Field Service settings.

Answer

The IoT alert was not sent from an Azure IoT Hub device.

Question 10

A field service manager wants to see real-time location of all technicians on a map to optimize dispatch. Which Dynamics 365 Field Service feature should be used?

Accepted Answer

Schedule board.. The Schedule Board in Dynamics 365 Field Service provides a real-time map view that displays the current location of technicians based on their mobile device GPS data. This allows dispatchers to visually assess technician proximity to work orders and optimize dispatch decisions. It is the central tool for resource scheduling and includes map integration for location tracking.

Answer

Connected Field Service IoT alerts.

Answer

Work order templates.

Answer

Field Service mobile app.

Question 11

A technician completes a work order but forgets to record the time spent on the job. The manager needs to capture the actual labor cost. What is the most efficient way to record the time after the fact?

Accepted Answer

Create a time entry for the technician and link it to the work order.. In Dynamics 365 Field Service, time entries are the mechanism for recording actual labor time against a work order. Creating a time entry for the technician and linking it to the work order captures the actual labor cost efficiently after the fact. This is the standard way to record time when it was not captured during the job.

Answer

Delete the work order and recreate it with correct time.

Answer

Edit the work order and change the actual time field.

Answer

Use the schedule board to adjust the scheduled duration.

Question 12

Which TWO of the following are key capabilities of Dynamics 365 Field Service?

Accepted Answer

Work order management.. Option A (Work order management) is correct because Dynamics 365 Field Service is built around the work order as its core record, tracking customer assets, service tasks, incident types, and the full lifecycle from creation to completion and billing. Option C (Scheduling and dispatch) is correct because Field Service includes the Universal Resource Scheduling engine and the Schedule Board, which let dispatchers match requirements (skills, territory, availability) to resources and optimize routes and time windows. Option B (Marketing automation) is not part of Field Service; that capability belongs to Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys. Option D (Inventory management) is not a key Field Service capability, as inventory and warehouse operations are handled by Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management (Field Service only tracks truck stock/returned products). Option E (Finance management) is not part of Field Service; general ledger, AP/AR, and financial reporting are provided by Dynamics 365 Finance.

Answer

Marketing automation.

Answer

Inventory management.

Answer

Finance management.

Question 13

Which TWO of the following are benefits of using Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app?

Accepted Answer

Capture customer signatures on site.. Option B is correct because the Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app lets technicians capture customer signatures directly on the device at the customer site, attaching the signature to the work order as proof of completion. Option E is correct because the mobile app supports offline mode, allowing technicians to download and view work order details, service tasks, and related data even without network connectivity. Option A is not a benefit of the mobile app itself; customer self-scheduling is typically handled through portals or scheduling tools, not the technician-facing mobile app. Option C is incorrect because time entry in Field Service is generally recorded via time entries or the Time Entry feature and requires technician action rather than being fully automatic. Option D is incorrect because real-time inventory management is handled through inventory and warehouse features in Field Service and Supply Chain, not as a core benefit of the mobile app.

Answer

Allow customers to schedule their own appointments.

Answer

Automatically record time without technician input.

Answer

Manage inventory levels in real time.

Question 14

Scenario: A field service technician uses the Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app. They need to record time spent on a work order and capture the customer's signature. The technician is currently on site but has no internet connection. What should they do?

Accepted Answer

Use the mobile app in offline mode to record time and capture signature.. The Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app is built on the Power Apps mobile platform and supports offline mode, allowing technicians to download their booked work orders, record time entries, capture customer signatures, and complete tasks without connectivity. Data is stored locally in the app's offline cache and syncs automatically when the device reconnects. This is the designed workflow for on-site technicians in low- or no-connectivity environments.

Answer

Call the dispatcher to record time and signature manually.

Answer

Wait until internet is available before proceeding.

Answer

Complete a paper form and enter data later.

Question 15

Scenario: Your organization uses Dynamics 365 Field Service with Resource Scheduling Optimization (RSO). You notice that some high-priority work orders are not being scheduled immediately, while lower-priority ones are scheduled first. You need to ensure that high-priority work orders are scheduled as soon as possible. What should you configure?

Accepted Answer

Configure the scheduling optimization goal to prioritize by work order priority.. Resource Scheduling Optimization (RSO) uses optimization goals to determine how work orders are ranked and scheduled. By configuring the goal to prioritize by work order priority, RSO will schedule high-priority work orders before lower-priority ones. This directly addresses the symptom described in the scenario.

Answer

Increase the number of resources in the pool.

Answer

Change the work order type to 'Emergency' for high-priority orders.

Answer

Manually schedule all high-priority work orders using the schedule board.
