SERVICENOW-CIS-DISCOVERY CMDB Integration And Maintenance Practice Test 5 — 15 Questions

Question 1

What is the primary benefit of using the CMDB Health Dashboard?

Accepted Answer

To identify and report on data quality issues in the CMDB.. The dashboard provides visibility into data quality, helping admins identify areas that need attention.

Answer

To manage server patches.

Answer

To configure MID server credentials.

Answer

To create new CI relationships.

Question 2

Which of the following is a common symptom of a 'stale' CI?

Accepted Answer

The CI has not been updated by discovery within the expected timeframe.. A stale CI is one that has not been refreshed by the discovery source within the expected discovery/update window, meaning the CMDB record may no longer reflect the actual configuration. ServiceNow's CMDB Health 'staleness' KPI flags CIs whose 'last discovered' or 'updated' timestamp exceeds the configured threshold. This is the defining symptom of a stale CI.

Answer

The CI has a duplicate.

Answer

The CI has too many relationships.

Answer

The CI is missing required attributes.

Question 3

Which of the following is true regarding the relationship between Discovery and the CMDB?

Accepted Answer

Discovery acts as a data source that the IRE processes into the CMDB.. Discovery is one of many data sources that can populate the CMDB, and it relies on the IRE to process its findings.

Answer

The CMDB informs Discovery what to scan.

Answer

Discovery and the CMDB are the same application.

Answer

Discovery directly writes to the CMDB tables.

Question 4

In the context of the CMDB, what does 'Orphan' refer to?

Accepted Answer

A CI with no relationships to other CIs.. An 'Orphan' CI is a CI that lacks any relationships to other CIs, which is often an indication of an incomplete CMDB model.

Answer

A CI with no owner.

Answer

A CI that has not been scanned.

Answer

A CI created by a guest user.

Question 5

You are implementing a new discovery tool and want to ensure it integrates seamlessly with existing CMDB identification rules. What is the first step?

Accepted Answer

Review existing Identification Rules to ensure they support the new tool's incoming CI data.. The first step is to review existing Identification Rules to ensure they support the new tool's incoming CI data. Identification Rules determine how discovered CIs are matched to existing records in the CMDB, so any new discovery tool must produce data that aligns with these rules (e.g., matching on serial number, MAC address, or name). Without this review, the new tool could create duplicate CIs or fail to update existing ones, breaking CMDB integrity.

Answer

Delete all existing CIs.

Answer

Disable all existing identification rules.

Answer

Use a new CI class for all data from the new tool.

Question 6

What happens in the CMDB when a 'Reconciliation Rule' identifies a conflict between two data sources?

Accepted Answer

The data source with the higher priority value updates the CI attribute.. The rule determines which source 'wins' based on the priority value assigned to the data sources; the loser is ignored for that attribute.

Answer

The system automatically creates a new CI.

Answer

The system prompts the user to choose.

Answer

Both values are stored as an array.

Question 7

If you need to define a new CI attribute that should be populated by Discovery, which task is mandatory?

Accepted Answer

Ensure the Reconciliation Rule allows the 'Discovery' data source to write to the new attribute.. If Discovery is to populate the attribute, you must add it to the pattern and ensure that no Reconciliation Rule prevents the 'Discovery' data source from writing to it.

Answer

Make the attribute 'Mandatory' in the dictionary.

Answer

Create a new CI class.

Answer

Add the attribute to the 'Discovery' schedule.

Question 8

Which of the following describes the purpose of the 'CI Class Manager'?

Accepted Answer

To manage class hierarchy and CI rules.. It provides a centralized interface for managing the configuration of all CI classes, including identification and reconciliation rules.

Answer

To manage user roles.

Answer

To perform network vulnerability scans.

Answer

To schedule Discovery jobs.

Question 9

You are configuring a Discovery CI identification rule for Linux servers and notice that multiple CIs are being created for the same physical device. Which component should you verify to ensure the Identification Engine correctly links the incoming data to an existing CI?

Accepted Answer

Identification Rule. The Identification Engine uses Identification Rules to compare attributes to determine if a CI exists. If these rules are misconfigured, duplicates occur.

Answer

Discovery Schedule

Answer

Discovery Pattern

Answer

Data Source

Question 10

A technician reports that Discovery is updating the 'Last discovered' field, but the 'Operational status' is not changing as expected. Where should you investigate the mapping of Discovery data to the CMDB?

Accepted Answer

Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) Data Source Rules. The IRE Data Source Rules determine how Discovery data is mapped to CMDB fields, including operational status. When Discovery updates 'Last discovered' but not 'Operational status', the issue likely lies in the IRE Data Source Rules, which control which data source can update which attributes. Investigating these rules will reveal if operational status is excluded or mapped incorrectly.

Question 11

A Discovery run is successfully finding CIs, but the 'CMDB Health Dashboard' shows 'Staleness' errors. What is the primary cause of staleness in the CMDB?

Accepted Answer

The CI has not been updated by a discovery source within the defined threshold.. Staleness occurs when a CI's 'Last discovered' date is older than the threshold defined in the CMDB Health configuration.

Answer

The discovery credentials have expired.

Answer

The CI record has duplicate attributes.

Answer

The CI is not associated with any Discovery Schedule.

Question 12

Which ServiceNow feature allows you to visualize the flow of data from Discovery into the CMDB, helping to debug why a CI attribute was populated with a specific value?

Accepted Answer

CI Identification and Reconciliation (IRE) logs. CI Identification and Reconciliation (IRE) logs capture the full processing pipeline for each CI record, including which discovery source contributed which attribute value and how IRE resolved conflicts. When an attribute is populated with an unexpected value, the IRE log shows the source, the identification rules applied, and the reconciliation outcome. This makes it the correct tool for tracing data flow from Discovery into the CMDB.

Question 13

You want to exclude specific network devices from being created in the CMDB by Discovery. How do you implement this?

Accepted Answer

Add the devices to a Discovery Exclusion List. Discovery Exclusion lists prevent specific IP ranges or devices from being processed by Discovery.

Answer

Disable the Discovery Schedule

Answer

Modify the MID Server capabilities

Answer

Delete the CI from the CMDB after discovery

Question 14

After an upgrade, several CIs are showing as 'Orphaned'. What does this status imply in the context of CMDB Health?

Accepted Answer

The CI has no relationship to any other CI in the CMDB.. An orphaned CI is a CI that has no relationship to other CIs or that is not correctly linked to the business service topology as defined.

Answer

The CI belongs to a class that is no longer supported.

Answer

The CI was discovered by a decommissioned MID Server.

Answer

The CI has no parent class.

Question 15

Where can you find a summary of the total number of CIs discovered versus those updated, identifying potential efficiency issues in your Discovery infrastructure?

Accepted Answer

Discovery Dashboard. The Discovery Dashboard provides metrics on CIs discovered, updated, and failed during a discovery run.

Answer

Service Mapping dashboard

Answer
