SERVICENOW-CIS-DISCOVERY CMDB Integration And Maintenance Practice Test 4 — 15 Questions

Question 1

If Discovery cannot find a pattern for an OS version, what does the system typically do?

Accepted Answer

The discovery process for that device fails or remains incomplete.. If no pattern is found, Discovery may fall back to a classification probe or simply stop discovery for that specific device depending on the configuration.

Answer

It automatically creates a generic Linux CI.

Answer

It creates a dummy CI record.

Answer

It uses the last used pattern.

Question 2

Which component is responsible for orchestrating the flow of CI data from the discovery source to the CMDB, ensuring data quality?

Accepted Answer

Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE). The Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) orchestrates all incoming CI data to ensure it adheres to CMDB rules.

Answer

MID Server

Answer

Discovery Pattern

Answer

CMDB Health Dashboard

Question 3

Which of the following best describes how the CMDB Health Dashboard defines 'Duplicate' CIs?

Accepted Answer

Multiple CIs that share the same identification criteria.. Duplicates are identified based on multiple CIs matching the same criteria defined in the Identification Rules.

Answer

CIs with the same name.

Answer

CIs discovered at the same time.

Answer

CIs that share the same IP address.

Question 4

When a pattern step uses a 'Query' to the target, what is the 'Temporary Variable' used for?

Accepted Answer

To store the output of the step for use in subsequent steps.. In a pattern step, the Temporary Variable stores the output of that step so subsequent steps can reference it — for example, a Query step's result set is held in a temporary variable that later steps parse or iterate over. It is the mechanism for passing data forward within a pattern execution.

Answer

To act as a filter for the result set.

Answer

To increase the speed of the scan.

Answer

To define the credentials for the query.

Question 5

Where can you see the 'Discovery Log' for a specific device that was scanned?

Accepted Answer

In the Discovery Status record.. The Discovery Status record is the central place to review the outcome of a Discovery run for a specific device. It contains the Discovery Log, which shows each phase (scanning, classification, identification, exploration, and probes/sensors) and any errors or warnings encountered. Opening the Discovery Status record for the relevant schedule/device gives you the detailed log needed to troubleshoot why a device was or wasn't discovered correctly.

Answer

In the CMDB CI record.

Answer

In the MID Server dashboard.

Answer

In the System Log.

Question 6

If you need to change the priority of a data source for a CI attribute, where do you go?

Accepted Answer

Reconciliation Rules. Reconciliation Rules allow an admin to set the priority (integer value) for each data source for specific attributes.

Answer

Discovery Schedule

Answer

Identification Rules

Answer

Discovery Credentials

Question 7

A business service has become 'inaccurate' in Service Mapping. What is the standard troubleshooting step?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Debug' mode in Service Mapping.. The Service Mapping interface provides a 'Debug' or 'Check Service' feature to identify which step or dependency failed.

Answer

Upgrade the MID server.

Answer

Re-import the entire CMDB.

Answer

Clear the CMDB cache.

Question 8

Which TWO of the following factors contribute to the CMDB Health Dashboard's 'Completeness' score?

Accepted Answer

Presence of required fields.. Completeness is measured by the presence of required and recommended fields on a CI record.

Answer

Number of duplicate CIs.

Answer

Number of relationships to other CIs.

Answer

Time since last discovery.

Question 9

Which TWO of the following are common issues that cause the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) to generate an error?

Accepted Answer

The data source does not have write authority for the CI attributes.. IRE failures often relate to data source authority or non-unique identifier matches.

Answer

The network latency is too high.

Answer

The MID server is offline.

Answer

The CI class is too complex.

Question 10

Which TWO of the following are potential side effects of an improperly configured Reconciliation Rule?

Accepted Answer

Legitimate updates are rejected by the system.. Improper rules lead to data flip-flopping or legitimate updates being rejected.

Answer

The Discovery schedule stops.

Answer

MID server credentials are purged.

Answer

The CMDB Health Dashboard crashes.

Question 11

Which TWO of the following actions help reduce 'Staleness' in the CMDB?

Accepted Answer

Ensuring all target devices are covered by a discovery schedule.. Staleness is reduced by ensuring scans run frequently enough and that every CI is targeted by a discovery scan.

Answer

Reducing the number of attributes collected.

Answer

Hardcoding CI attributes manually.

Answer

Adding more classes to the dashboard.

Question 12

Which THREE of the following are components or features that are part of the 'Discovery' to 'CMDB' data pipeline?

Accepted Answer

Discovery Patterns. Discovery Patterns (A) are the reusable, content-based definitions that tell Discovery how to classify and map data from a CI (e.g., by parsing commands, SNMP OIDs, or WMI queries) into the correct CMDB class and attributes, making them a core part of the Discovery-to-CMDB pipeline. Reconciliation Rules (B) are the configurable rules that determine how incoming discovered data is merged with existing CMDB records, including which fields to update, ignore, or prioritize, so they directly govern how Discovery results are written into the CMDB. The Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) (C) is the ServiceNow engine that processes discovery payloads, applies identification and reconciliation logic, and creates or updates CIs in the CMDB, making it the central component of this pipeline. Incident Management (D) is an ITIL process for handling service disruptions and is not part of the Discovery-to-CMDB data flow, and Knowledge Management (E) is a separate module for storing articles and knowledge bases, unrelated to populating the CMDB from Discovery.

Answer

Incident Management

Answer

Knowledge Management

Question 13

What is the primary function of an 'Identification Rule'?

Accepted Answer

To define the attributes used to match incoming CI data to existing CIs.. An identification rule defines which attributes are used to uniquely identify a CI and match it against existing records.

Answer

To specify which MID server is used.

Answer

To define the scan frequency.

Answer

To map IP ranges.

Question 14

Which of the following is the most effective way to view the relationships of a CI in a graphical format?

Accepted Answer

Dependency View. The Dependency View is the standard graphical interface for viewing CI relationships in ServiceNow.

Answer

CMDB Health Dashboard

Answer

List View

Answer

Discovery Status

Question 15

When a Discovery pattern step fails due to a timeout, what is the best approach to fix it?

Accepted Answer

Increase the timeout value in the pattern step settings.. Timeouts often occur because the command is too slow. You can increase the timeout setting in the specific pattern step or optimize the command.

Answer

Change the Discovery schedule to run at night.

Answer

Delete the step.

Answer

Increase the MID server memory.
