SERVICENOW-CIS-DISCOVERY Discovery Configuration Practice Test 6 — 15 Questions

Question 1

Which THREE of the following are necessary to successfully discover a Windows server?

Accepted Answer

Network connectivity to the server. You need a reachable network, a credential with access, and a valid classifier for Windows.

Answer

An active Incident Management module

Answer

A manual CI creation

Question 2

Which THREE of the following are true about the MID Server?

Accepted Answer

It needs outbound access to the instance. It communicates via HTTPS, resides behind the firewall, and connects to the instance.

Answer

It requires a dedicated database

Answer

It replaces the ServiceNow instance

Question 3

Which TWO of the following are valid ways to trigger Discovery?

Accepted Answer

Manual 'Discover Now'. Discovery can be triggered by a schedule (recurring) or manually ('Discover Now').

Answer

Change Management

Answer

Incident Management

Answer

CMDB update rule

Question 4

Which THREE of the following are common reasons for a Discovery scan to fail?

Accepted Answer

Network firewall blocking ports. A Discovery scan fails when a network firewall blocks the ports used for probing (for example SNMP 161, WMI 135/445, or SSH 22), so the scanner cannot reach the target and the scan returns no data. B is correct because if the IP range or subnet defined in the Discovery schedule is wrong, the scanner probes addresses where no managed devices exist, producing an empty or failed scan. D is correct because invalid or insufficient credentials (wrong SNMP community string, WMI/SSH username or password) prevent authentication and cause the scan to fail even when the network path is open. C is not a typical cause of a Discovery scan failure, since a full instance database affects data storage rather than the scanning process itself, and E is unrelated because Discovery scans run from the mid server or scanner engine, not from a browser.

Answer

The instance database is full

Answer

The browser is out of date

Question 5

Which THREE of the following are true about the Identification phase?

Accepted Answer

It helps prevent duplicate CIs. It uses identification rules, ensures CMDB uniqueness, and prevents duplicate CIs.

Answer

It runs patterns to get serial numbers

Answer

It updates device software attributes

Question 6

Which TWO of the following are true about Discovery Credentials?

Accepted Answer

They are referenced via Credential Aliases. They are stored securely and associated with aliases for use in schedules.

Answer

They are not required for Discovery

Answer

They are stored in the MID Server locally

Answer

They are passed as plain text in the ECC queue

Question 7

During the Identification phase, you notice that multiple CI records are being created for the same physical server. Which component should you verify to ensure the Identification engine correctly merges these attributes?

Accepted Answer

Identification Rules. Identification Rules are the component that determines how CIs are uniquely identified and merged during the Identification phase. They define the attributes that must match for two CI records to be considered the same, ensuring that multiple records for the same physical server are merged correctly.

Answer

Classification Criteria

Answer

Discovery Patterns

Answer

Discovery Probes

Question 8

You are setting up a new Discovery schedule to scan a large, segmented network. Which feature would you use to ensure the scan is distributed across multiple MID Servers?

Accepted Answer

MID Server Clusters. MID Server clusters allow you to assign a group of MID Servers to a schedule for load balancing and high availability.

Answer

Shazzam Clusters

Answer

Discovery IP Ranges

Answer

Discovery Behaviors

Question 9

Which TWO of the following are valid ways to define the scope of a Discovery scan?

Accepted Answer

IP Address ranges. A Discovery scan scope can be defined by specifying one or more IP address ranges (for example, 10.0.0.1-10.0.0.254) that Discovery will probe for live devices. Option C (IP Network addresses) is also correct because scope can be defined using IP network/subnet addresses in CIDR notation (for example, 192.168.1.0/24), which Discovery uses to determine which hosts to scan. Schedule Behaviors (B) control when and how often a Discovery schedule runs, not which devices are in scope. MID Server Capability (D) determines which MID Server is eligible to execute the Discovery based on its assigned capabilities, but it does not define the target scope. Credential profiles (E) supply the authentication credentials used during Discovery, not the set of IP addresses or networks to be scanned.

Answer

Schedule Behaviors

Answer

MID Server Capability

Answer

Credential profiles

Question 10

You have a custom application that Discovery is currently ignoring. You want to trigger a specific pattern when the device is classified as a 'Linux Server'. Where do you configure this relationship?

Accepted Answer

In the Discovery Classification record. The Discovery Classification record is where you define which CI class a device maps to and which patterns are triggered for that class. To have a specific pattern run when a device is classified as 'Linux Server', you attach or associate that pattern on the Classification record for Linux Server, so the classification-to-pattern relationship drives execution.

Answer

In the ECC Queue

Answer

In the Discovery Schedule

Answer

In the CI Identification Rule

Question 11

A discovery scan is failing during the Exploration phase because the credentials are insufficient. Where should you look to find the specific error logs related to this credential failure?

Accepted Answer

The Discovery Log. The Discovery Log is the primary place to find detailed error messages, including credential failures during the Exploration phase. It records each step of the discovery process and any errors encountered.

Answer

The Workflow Context

Answer

The ECC Queue

Answer

The MID Server Issue record

Question 12

When configuring a Discovery Schedule, what happens if the 'Active' checkbox is unchecked?

Accepted Answer

It does not run. An inactive Discovery Schedule will not run, regardless of the schedule definition or the defined Discovery range.

Answer

It remains in the queue

Answer

It runs only once

Answer

It ignores the IP ranges

Question 13

Which THREE components are involved in the Discovery process flow?

Accepted Answer

Discovery Patterns. Discovery utilizes the MID Server for execution, the ECC queue for communication, and Patterns for data collection.

Answer

Service Mapping

Answer

CI Class Manager

Question 14

A discovery administrator needs to prevent the MID Server from scanning a set of production database servers on the 10.10.0.0/24 subnet, while still allowing discovery of all other devices on that same subnet. The MID Server is already configured and the discovery schedule uses a single IP range that includes 10.10.0.0/24. Which configuration should the administrator use to exclude only the database servers?

Accepted Answer

Create a Discovery IP range exclusion record for the database server IPs.. Discovery IP range exclusions are designed to prevent scanning of specific IPs or subnets that are otherwise part of an included range. By creating an exclusion record for the database server IPs, the administrator ensures those devices are skipped while the rest of the subnet is still discovered. This is the standard method for fine-grained exclusion in ServiceNow Discovery.

Answer

Add the database server IPs to the MID Server's blacklist in the MID Server properties.

Answer

Configure a Discovery IP range exclusion in the MID Server's config file.

Answer

Create an exclusion IP range in the Discovery Schedule for the database server IPs.

Question 15

A discovery administrator is troubleshooting why a Windows server is not being classified correctly during discovery. The server responds to pings and the MID Server successfully runs probes, but the Classification record is not being matched. The administrator verifies that the correct Windows pattern is being triggered. Which configuration should the administrator check to ensure the classification is applied based on the correct criteria?

Accepted Answer

The Classification record's matching criteria and conditions.. Classification records define the conditions under which a discovered device is assigned a specific class. If a device is discovered and patterns run but the classification is not applied, the matching criteria on the Classification record are likely incorrect or too narrow. The administrator should review and adjust those conditions to ensure the server meets them.

Answer

The Discovery Schedule's IP range and MID Server selection.

Answer

The Discovery Behavior's probe order and pattern selection.

Answer

The MID Server's capabilities and supported patterns.
