SERVICENOW-CIS-DISCOVERY Discovery Configuration Practice Test 5 — 15 Questions

Question 1

What is the purpose of the 'Identification' phase in Discovery?

Accepted Answer

To match the discovered CI to an existing one in the CMDB.. The Identification phase in Discovery matches discovered CIs to existing CIs in the CMDB using identification rules. It determines whether a discovered device is a new CI or an existing one that should be updated, ensuring data integrity and preventing duplicates. This is the core purpose of identification.

Answer

To find the IP address of the device.

Answer

To determine what the device is.

Answer

To gather hardware details.

Question 2

A new device type is not being discovered correctly. Where should you look to ensure the classification process is prepared to handle it?

Accepted Answer

The Discovery Classifiers table.. The 'Discovery Classifiers' table contains the rules used to identify and classify devices.

Answer

The Credential Alias list.

Answer

The IP Range definitions.

Answer

The MID Server configuration.

Question 3

Which of these is a valid way to organize discovery when dealing with a very large network?

Accepted Answer

Use multiple schedules and MID servers to segment the workload.. For very large networks, a single schedule or MID server becomes a bottleneck. Using multiple schedules and MID servers distributes the discovery workload, enabling parallel processing and horizontal scaling. This segmentation also isolates failures and allows tuning for different network segments.

Answer

Disable the identification phase.

Answer

Use a single schedule for everything.

Answer

Run everything at once.

Question 4

What does 'Discovery' in ServiceNow primarily populate?

Accepted Answer

The CMDB.. Discovery in ServiceNow primarily populates the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) by discovering and updating configuration items (CIs) and their relationships. It scans the infrastructure, classifies devices, identifies existing CIs, and populates the CMDB with accurate data.

Answer

The knowledge base.

Answer

The user database.

Answer

The incident table.

Question 5

How can you identify which MID Server performed a specific discovery task?

Accepted Answer

Check the Discovery Status record.. The 'Discovery Status' record includes a field showing the MID server that was used for the execution.

Answer

Check the user profile of the sys_admin.

Answer

Check the CMDB CI record.

Answer

Check the ECC Queue output.

Question 6

You need to add a new port to be scanned by Discovery. Which record do you update?

Accepted Answer

The IP Service record.. To add a new port to be scanned by Discovery, you update the IP Service record. IP Service records define the ports and protocols that Discovery uses during port scanning. Each IP Service record corresponds to a specific service (e.g., HTTP, SSH) and includes the port number and other attributes.

Answer

The MID Server capabilities.

Answer

The Discovery Schedule.

Answer

The Discovery Classifier.

Question 7

What is the primary function of the Discovery 'Exploration' phase?

Accepted Answer

To run patterns and gather detailed attributes.. Exploration executes patterns to collect detailed configuration data from the device.

Answer

To classify the device.

Answer

To identify open ports.

Answer

To reconcile CIs.

Question 8

Which of the following is NOT a required part of a Discovery Schedule?

Accepted Answer

Excluded IP Range.. A Discovery Schedule requires a Target IP Range, a MID Server, and a Discovery Behavior to define what to discover and how. An Excluded IP Range is optional; it is used to exclude specific IPs from the target range but is not mandatory for the schedule to run. Therefore, Excluded IP Range is NOT a required part.

Answer

Target IP Range.

Answer

MID Server.

Answer

Discovery Behavior.

Question 9

Which TWO of the following are valid ways to configure an IP range for a Discovery Schedule?

Accepted Answer

CIDR notation. Discovery supports both CIDR notation and start/end IP ranges.

Answer

Subnet mask

Answer

Wildcard ranges (e.g., 10.1.*.*)

Answer

Comma-separated list of Hostnames

Question 10

Which TWO of the following are components of the Discovery process?

Accepted Answer

Shazzam. In ServiceNow Discovery, the two components of the Discovery process are Shazzam (option A) and Exploration (option D). Shazzam is the port-scanning phase that probes IP ranges for responsive ports and identifies the likely device classification, while Exploration is the phase that uses probes and sensors (via MID Server) to gather detailed configuration data such as OS, applications, and serial numbers. Together they form the core Discovery pipeline: Shazzam finds the devices, and Exploration interrogates them. Incident Management (option B) is an ITIL process for restoring service, not a Discovery component. Workflow Designer (option C) is a graphical tool for building workflows, unrelated to Discovery phases. Service Mapping (option E) is a separate, complementary ServiceNow capability that builds service topologies from discovered CIs, but it is not itself a component of the Discovery process.

Answer

Incident Management

Answer

Workflow Designer

Answer

Service Mapping

Question 11

Which TWO of the following are true about the 'Discovery Status' module?

Accepted Answer

It provides detailed phase-by-phase information. It provides a historical log of all discovery runs and detailed information about what occurred during each phase.

Answer

It is the only place to define IP ranges

Answer

It automatically fixes CMDB errors

Answer

It is used to manage credentials

Question 12

Which THREE of the following are valid ways to improve discovery performance?

Accepted Answer

Using a MID Server cluster for load balancing. Option B is correct because a MID Server cluster distributes discovery probes and schedules across multiple MID Servers, providing load balancing and horizontal scaling so no single MID Server becomes a bottleneck. Option C is correct because raising the number of concurrent discovery tasks (via the MID Server's max concurrent tasks/probes settings) lets more discovery work run in parallel, increasing throughput. Option D is correct because splitting large IP ranges into smaller, separate schedules reduces the scope and duration of each discovery run, avoids timeouts, and lets discoveries complete faster and more reliably. Option A is not valid because disabling all classifiers removes the classification step that identifies device types and CI classes, which does not improve performance and breaks discovery results. Option E is not valid because running all discoveries simultaneously overloads MID Servers and the instance, causing contention and slower, not faster, discovery.

Answer

Disabling all classifiers

Answer

Running all discoveries at once

Question 13

Which THREE of the following are key components for configuring a successful Discovery?

Accepted Answer

MID Server. Schedules, MID Servers, and Credentials are the foundational blocks for any discovery project.

Answer

Knowledge Base

Answer

Incident Management

Question 14

Which TWO of the following can be used to troubleshoot a MID Server that is not responding?

Accepted Answer

Check the MID Server logs. Checking the MID Server logs and the ECC Queue status are the primary ways to diagnose communication issues.

Answer

Restart the ServiceNow instance

Answer

Run a full system scan

Answer

Clear the CMDB cache

Question 15

Which THREE of the following items are stored in the Credential record?

Accepted Answer

Password. Credential records typically store Usernames, Passwords, and SSH keys/certificates.

Answer

IP Address

Answer

MAC Address
