SERVICENOW-CIS-DISCOVERY Practice Test 8 — 10 Questions

Question 1

Which TWO settings can be managed via the MID Server 'Capabilities' feature?

Accepted Answer

Filtering scan types (e.g., WMI, SNMP). Option B (Filtering scan types such as WMI and SNMP) is correct because MID Server capabilities are used to control which discovery/scanning probes and protocols a MID Server is allowed to run, so you can restrict a MID Server to specific scan types like WMI or SNMP. Option D (Restricting discovery work) is correct because capabilities determine what kinds of discovery and orchestration jobs a MID Server is eligible to execute, effectively limiting the discovery workload it can be assigned. Options A, C, and E are not managed through the Capabilities feature: user access is governed by roles/ACLs, proxy connections are configured in MID Server properties, and memory limits are set via the MID Server's wrapper/JVM configuration, not capabilities.

Answer

Managing user access

Answer

Configuring proxy connections

Answer

Setting the memory limit

Question 2

You need to ensure that Discovery ignores a specific range of IP addresses within a larger CIDR block that is already configured. What is the most efficient configuration approach?

Accepted Answer

Add the ranges to the Excluded IP Ranges related list.. ServiceNow Discovery provides an Excluded IP Ranges related list on the Discovery Schedule (and on IP Range records) specifically to carve out addresses from a larger CIDR block without altering the parent range. Adding the target IPs to this list is the least disruptive and most efficient approach because it preserves the existing schedule and range configuration while preventing Shazzam from scanning those addresses.

Answer

Configure a Discovery Behavior to exclude the IPs.

Answer

Delete the original schedule and recreate two smaller schedules.

Answer

Create an ACL to block the IP addresses.

Question 3

When a Discovery scan completes, how can you view the status of all individual IP addresses scanned by that schedule?

Accepted Answer

View the Discovery Status record.. The Discovery Status record is the central log for a Discovery run. It contains a related list called 'Discovery Device History' (or 'Devices') that lists every IP address targeted by the schedule, along with its individual status (e.g., Completed, Unreachable, Timed Out, Skipped). This provides a per-IP view of the scan outcome without needing to dig into raw queues or logs.

Answer

Look at the ECC Queue directly.

Answer

Check the CMDB list.

Answer

Check the MID Server logs.

Question 4

When debugging a pattern that fails to parse a JSON response, which tool in the Pattern Designer provides the most granular view of the variable state after a 'Parse JSON' step?

Accepted Answer

The 'Variables' tab in the Debugger. The 'Debug' panel in the Pattern Designer allows you to inspect variable values step-by-step after execution.

Answer

Pattern Log

Answer

The CMDB CI Class Manager

Answer

The Discovery Status record

Question 5

Which ServiceNow feature allows you to visualize the flow of data from Discovery into the CMDB, helping to debug why a CI attribute was populated with a specific value?

Accepted Answer

CI Identification and Reconciliation (IRE) logs. CI Identification and Reconciliation (IRE) logs capture the full processing pipeline for each CI record, including which discovery source contributed which attribute value and how IRE resolved conflicts. When an attribute is populated with an unexpected value, the IRE log shows the source, the identification rules applied, and the reconciliation outcome. This makes it the correct tool for tracing data flow from Discovery into the CMDB.

Answer

System Logs

Answer

Discovery Pattern Designer

Answer

Discovery Home Page

Question 6

How does Discovery handle the identification of a device that has had its IP address changed since the last discovery?

Accepted Answer

It uses Identification Rules to match the device based on hardware attributes.. Discovery uses Identification rules based on unique hardware attributes (like serial numbers) to reconcile the CI, regardless of IP changes.

Answer

It deletes the old CI and creates a new one.

Answer

It requires a manual merge in the CI list.

Answer

It fails because the IP address does not match.

Question 7

What does the 'Debug' mode in the Pattern Designer require to function?

Accepted Answer

A selected Discovery status record (node).. Debug mode requires a target node to execute the pattern against, which is provided by a Discovery status record.

Answer

A new CI class.

Answer

A valid user session.

Answer

The MID Server to be in debug mode.

Question 8

You are modifying a pattern and need to extract a specific attribute from a JSON response returned by an API. Which step type is most appropriate for this task?

Accepted Answer

Parse JSON. The Parse JSON step type is purpose-built to parse a JSON payload and extract specific attributes by navigating the JSON structure using JSONPath or dot notation. When a pattern receives an API response in JSON format, Parse JSON lets you map individual fields (e.g., $.data.id) into variables that subsequent steps can use. This is the correct and most efficient way to pull a specific attribute from a JSON response.

Answer

Parse Variable

Answer

Set Parameter

Answer

Regex Extract

Question 9

You have multiple MID Servers in a cluster. Where do you define the capability that restricts a specific MID Server to only perform 'Windows' discovery?

Accepted Answer

MID Server record. MID Server Capabilities are used to filter which MID Servers handle specific types of discovery tasks.

Answer

Discovery Schedule

Answer

Discovery Behavior

Answer

Credential Alias

Question 10

Which of the following is the most effective way to view the relationships of a CI in a graphical format?

Accepted Answer

Dependency View. The Dependency View is the standard graphical interface for viewing CI relationships in ServiceNow.

Answer

CMDB Health Dashboard

Answer

List View

Answer

Discovery Status
