Domain percentage weights are not currently available for this exam. The checklist below is still useful for planning your study.
Week 1
Cloud Concepts and M365 Core Services: Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive
Tip: Know what each M365 service does: Exchange Online (email), SharePoint (intranet/document management), OneDrive (personal cloud storage), Teams (collaboration hub). Questions often describe a need and ask which M365 service meets it.
Week 2
M365 Productivity Apps and the Microsoft 365 app model
Tip: Understand the difference between web apps (browser-based), desktop apps (installed, requires licence), and mobile apps. Know which M365 licences include which apps — Business Basic vs Standard vs Premium differ significantly.
Week 3
Security, Compliance, Privacy: Microsoft Entra, Defender, Purview
Tip: Know the purpose of key M365 security services: Microsoft Entra ID (identity, MFA, Conditional Access), Microsoft Defender (threat protection), Microsoft Purview (compliance, DLP, eDiscovery). Focus on what each does, not how to configure it.
Week 4
M365 Pricing, Licensing and Support: plans, support tiers, deployment options
Tip: M365 licensing tiers are directly tested. Know the Business (up to 300 users) vs Enterprise tiers and what features appear at each level — Advanced security and Compliance tools graduate to higher plans.
MS-900 tests concepts, not configuration. Questions are at the 'what does this service do' level — you will not be asked to configure an Exchange mail flow rule or set up a Teams meeting policy.
Microsoft 365 vs Office 365: Microsoft 365 is the newer, broader branding that includes security and compliance tools beyond just Office apps. M365 Business Premium includes Microsoft Defender for Business while Business Basic does not.
Conditional Access is a key M365 security concept: it allows requiring MFA, compliant devices, or specific locations for access to M365 services. Know what Conditional Access does and which licence tier includes it.
Microsoft Copilot for M365 is in scope. Know that it requires a M365 E3/E5 or Business Standard/Premium base licence plus a Copilot add-on, and that it uses your organisation's data from M365 services.
All M365 subscriptions include 24/7 support for billing issues; technical support SLA varies by plan. Know that Microsoft FastTrack is a free deployment assistance service for eligible M365 customers.
