1Y0-204 Resource Provisioning and Delivery — All Questions With Answers

Question 1

An administrator needs to deploy a large-scale VDI environment using Machine Creation Services (MCS) with persistent personal vDisks. Which storage strategy minimizes the input/output operations per second (IOPS) impact on the underlying SAN during the daily morning boot storm?

Accepted Answer

Configure MCS virtual machines to use RAM cache with overflow to disk.. Utilizing the Citrix Provisioning (PVS) or MCS feature that leverages RAM cache with overflow to disk effectively offloads the boot I/O from the SAN to the local hypervisor memory and disk. This configuration is critical in large VDI deployments because it significantly reduces the read/write latency associated with standard persistent storage, ensuring that the boot process remains performant and stable during high-concurrency events experienced at the start of a business day.

Answer

Provision all virtual machines using thick-provisioned virtual disks on a centralized NAS.

Answer

Implement non-persistent MCS with a dedicated shared storage profile for user profiles.

Answer

Enable hardware-level deduplication on the primary SAN volume hosting the base disks.

Question 2

Refer to the exhibit. An administrator attempts to create a new Machine Catalog, but the command fails. Which parameter is missing or incorrectly configured for a functional Machine Creation Services deployment?

Accepted Answer

The MasterImage property is missing from the command syntax.. The command lacks the required '-MasterImageVM' or '-MasterImageSnapshot' parameter, which defines the source golden image for MCS. Without specifying the master image, the Broker service cannot determine the disk structure or template to clone for the new machines. This is a fundamental requirement in Citrix provisioning workflows to ensure that all generated virtual desktops are based on the correct OS baseline and software configuration.

Answer

The ProvisioningType parameter is incorrectly set to MCS.

Answer

The PersistUserChanges parameter should be set to 'True' for MCS.

Answer

The AllocationType must be set to 'Static' for MCS catalog creation.

Question 3

An administrator is configuring a new Delivery Group. Which TWO factors influence the choice between 'Random' and 'Static' desktop assignment types?

Accepted Answer

The requirement for users to save personal settings or state locally on the virtual machine.. The choice between Random and Static assignments centers on user profile management and resource persistence. Random assignments are ideal for generic desktop pools where users do not require saved states, reducing management overhead. Static assignments ensure users always receive the same machine, which is critical for applications requiring persistent user-specific state or local profile storage. Understanding these factors is vital for aligning Citrix infrastructure with specific business workflow requirements.

Answer

The total number of concurrent users accessing the environment simultaneously.

Answer

Whether the virtual machines are powered on or off during the off-peak hours.

Answer

The hypervisor platform used in the Citrix environment.

Question 4

An administrator is planning an MCS deployment. Which THREE considerations must be addressed regarding the connection between the Citrix Delivery Controller and the hypervisor?

Accepted Answer

The Delivery Controller requires a dedicated service account with hypervisor administrative rights.. The communication between the Delivery Controller and the hypervisor is the backbone of the MCS provisioning workflow. It requires appropriate authentication, sufficient API permissions to manage virtual hardware, and network access for management traffic. Properly configuring these three areas ensures that the controller can successfully provision, power-manage, and lifecycle-manage the virtual machines, which is critical for maintaining high availability and operational integrity within a virtualized Citrix environment.

Answer

The hypervisor must have a pre-configured, static IP address for every target virtual machine.

Answer

The Delivery Controller must be installed on the same physical host as the hypervisor.

Question 5

Refer to the exhibit. An administrator receives this error when attempting to add a new hypervisor connection in Studio. What is the most likely cause?

Accepted Answer

The service account credentials used for the connection are incorrect or expired.. This error typically indicates a communication failure between the Delivery Controller and the hypervisor management interface, often caused by expired service account credentials or firewall blocks. Verifying the service account permissions and ensuring the hypervisor management ports (e.g., HTTPS 443) are open in the network security groups is the standard troubleshooting procedure. This connectivity is fundamental for the controller to manage the virtual desktop lifecycle.

Answer

The master image is locked by another administrator.

Answer

The Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) version is incompatible with the hypervisor.

Answer

The target datastore has insufficient storage capacity.

Question 6

What is the consequence of failing to synchronize the master image before updating a Machine Catalog?

Accepted Answer

The machines will fail to boot due to missing disk information.. Synchronization is the process where the controller prepares the master image for distribution to the virtual machines. If this step is omitted or fails, the machines will attempt to boot from an older, potentially incompatible image or will fail to boot entirely. This synchronization ensures that the disk image is in a consistent state and ready for the cloning process, preventing corruption and ensuring that all target machines receive the correct updates.

Answer

The machine catalog will automatically revert to the previous version.

Answer

The identity disks will be overwritten.

Answer

User profiles will be deleted from the server.

Question 7

An administrator needs to deploy non-persistent virtual desktops using Machine Creation Services (MCS) while minimizing storage write-io operations on the expensive SAN tier. Which configuration step accomplishes this efficiently?

Accepted Answer

Configure the Machine Catalog write cache to overflow from volatile memory to a temporary local disk on the hypervisor host.. Placing the MCS write cache directly on the local virtual machine RAM and hard disk minimizes the IOPS load on the central SAN storage tier. This architecture optimizes backend performance, reduces network latency, and ensures cost-effective storage utilization during heavy concurrent user logons and application launches in a pooled desktop environment.

Answer

Configure the Machine Catalog to store the entire virtual machine differential disk directly on the centralized shared SAN storage.

Answer

Disable the write cache entirely in the Master Image preparation settings to force all disk writes directly back to the base image.

Answer

Attach an independent persistent personal vDisk to every single virtual desktop instance created by the Machine Creation Services wizard.

Question 8

An administrator is preparing a master image for use with Machine Creation Services (MCS). Which TWO actions must be performed before shutting down the virtual machine and creating the snapshot? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Execute the Windows Sysprep tool with the generalization parameter enabled.. Running Microsoft Windows System Preparation (Sysprep) guarantees that the Security Identifier (SID) and computer name are uniquely regenerated for every provisioned desktop clone. Additionally, disconnecting the machine from the active network prevents accidental domain synchronization issues, rogue IP conflicts, and premature updates from reaching the centralized master image before deployment.

Answer

Permanently assign a static IP address to the primary network interface card within the master operating system.

Answer

Install the Citrix Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) software with the appropriate delivery controller addresses.

Answer

Create an explicit backup copy of the master image virtual hard disk using native hypervisor export tools.

Question 9

An administrator has updated a master image for a pooled VDI catalog using Machine Creation Services. After initiating the 'Update Machines' process, some virtual desktops fail to apply the new image. What is the most likely cause of this behavior?

Accepted Answer

The target virtual machines were powered off during the update operation.. Machine Creation Services requires target virtual machines to be powered on to receive identity updates and disk swaps during an image rollout. If target machines are powered off, offline, or suspended during the scheduled update window, the Citrix Delivery Controller cannot communicate with the hypervisor to attach the new differential disks.

Answer

The Delivery Controller service was restarted mid-process, clearing the machine catalog update queue from memory.

Answer

The administrator forgot to manually update the Active Directory computer account passwords prior to running the wizard.

Answer

The master image snapshot was deleted from the hypervisor storage repository immediately after starting the rollout.

Question 10

An administrator is using Machine Creation Services (MCS) to update a pooled-random catalog. After deploying the new image, users report that local application settings are lost after logoff. Which component must the administrator configure to ensure user personalization persists across reboots in this specific environment?

Accepted Answer

Enable and configure Citrix Profile Management to redirect user folders.. In a pooled-random MCS catalog, the OS disk is refreshed to the master image on every reboot, discarding changes. By utilizing a Personal vDisk or a Citrix Profile Management solution, administrators ensure that user data and application settings are redirected to a persistent network share. This is critical for maintaining user experience in non-persistent environments where the local disk is essentially volatile and replaced during the machine power cycle.

Answer

Configure a persistent write-back cache on the hypervisor storage.

Answer

Modify the master image to include a local profile roaming script.

Answer

Increase the size of the differencing disk for the catalog.

Question 11

An administrator is preparing to deploy a large-scale VDI environment using MCS. Which TWO factors should be considered when planning for the storage impact of the identity disk and the differencing disk? (Choose TWO)

Accepted Answer

The identity disk size is fixed at 10 MB and must be placed on high-performance storage.. The identity disk stores computer account information, which is small but must be accounted for in large deployments to prevent storage exhaustion. The differencing disk grows dynamically as users write data to the OS partition. Properly sizing these disks on the hypervisor storage prevents performance degradation and potential boot failures. Understanding these storage requirements is vital for ensuring high availability and system stability during intensive provisioning cycles within a Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment.

Answer

The differencing disk size is strictly limited by the master image total size.

Answer

Identity disks are strictly optional and can be disabled to save space.

Answer

Storage requirements for disks are irrelevant if using PVS streaming.

Question 12

An administrator needs to create a Machine Catalog using Machine Creation Services (MCS) in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 7. The master image contains multiple local user accounts and custom registry entries that must be preserved in the provisioned virtual machines. Which master image preparation method should the administrator select during the catalog creation wizard?

Accepted Answer

Choose to not prepare the master image during the catalog creation wizard so that local accounts and custom registry keys remain intact.. Master image preparation dictates whether MCS alters the operating system disk. Choosing not to prepare the image leaves local accounts, SIDs, and customized settings intact on every provisioned virtual machine. This is crucial when deploying specialized workloads where automatic optimization or Citrix prep tools would strip out necessary local configurations and pre-installed application identity dependencies required by legacy software packages.

Answer

Enable automatic master image optimization and preparation to ensure unique security identifiers across all provisioned virtual machines in the catalog.

Answer

Run the Citrix Optimizer command-line tool manually on the master image before powering it down and initiating the catalog creation wizard.

Answer

Execute the New-ProvScheme PowerShell cmdlet with the -SkipPreparation parameter to bypass Sysprep execution on the storage disk.

Question 13

A Citrix Administrator is creating a new Machine Catalog in Citrix Studio for a group of non-persistent pooled machines. The environment uses a vSphere hypervisor and Machine Creation Services (MCS). The administrator wants to minimize storage consumption while ensuring that each user's session starts from a clean state. Which Machine Creation Services cloning method should the administrator select?

Accepted Answer

Fast Clone. Fast Clone uses copy-on-write differencing disks that reference the master image, so each machine consumes only the space needed for its own writes. This directly addresses the goal of minimizing storage while keeping non-persistent machines clean at each logon. Full Clone wastes space, and Thin Clone and Linked Clone are not MCS cloning methods presented in Citrix Studio for this deployment.

Answer

Linked Clone

Answer

Thin Clone

Answer

Full Clone

Question 14

An administrator is configuring a Delivery Group for a new machine catalog that contains pooled-random VDI desktops. The administrator wants to ensure that users are automatically assigned to a desktop upon first logon and that the assignment persists for future sessions. Which Delivery Group setting should be configured?

Accepted Answer

Configure the Delivery Group to use 'Static' assignment and enable 'Automatic assignment'. To automatically assign a persistent desktop to users in a pooled-random catalog, the Delivery Group must use static assignment with automatic assignment enabled. This assigns a desktop on first logon and maintains that assignment for future sessions. Session-based assignment is temporary, and other options do not provide persistence.

Answer

Configure 'Desktops per user' to 1 and enable 'Reconnect to existing desktop'

Answer

Enable 'Automatic assignment' and set the assignment policy to 'Persistent'

Answer

Enable 'Automatic assignment' and set the assignment policy to 'Session'

Question 15

A Citrix Administrator is creating a new machine catalog using Machine Creation Services (MCS) for a group of non-persistent pooled VDI machines that will be used by task workers. The workers only need a standard set of applications and do not require personalization or profile persistence across sessions. The administrator wants to minimize storage consumption while ensuring that each user gets a consistent experience. Which storage option should the administrator select when configuring the catalog?

Accepted Answer

Use Machine Creation Services with a shared master image and enable 'Cache in RAM' for the write cache.. For non-persistent pooled VDI with MCS, the most storage-efficient approach is to use a shared master image and differencing disks. Enabling 'Cache in RAM' reduces write operations to storage, which minimizes storage consumption and improves performance. This combination provides a consistent experience for users while keeping the storage footprint low, aligning with the administrator's goals.

Answer

Use a shared storage repository with thin provisioning and enable write cache on the hypervisor.

Answer

Use local storage on each hypervisor host for the identity disks and write cache.

Answer

Enable Citrix Provisioning (PVS) streaming instead of MCS to reduce storage costs.

Question 16

An administrator has a Citrix Provisioning (PVS) environment with a vDisk in Private Image mode. A test team needs to install a new line-of-business application into the vDisk and then make those changes available to all production target devices. What must the administrator do after booting a maintenance device and installing the application?

Accepted Answer

Change the vDisk access mode to Standard Image, then promote the version to Production. In PVS, a Private Image vDisk can be edited by one device, but production target devices stream from a Standard Image vDisk. After installing the application, the administrator must set the vDisk to Standard Image mode and promote the new version to Production so that all target devices in the collection receive the update on restart.

Answer

Merge the vDisk differences to the base and delete the maintenance device from the collection

Answer

Export the vDisk as a VHDX and import it as a new machine catalog via MCS

Answer

Promote the vDisk version to Test, then assign it to the production device collection

Question 17

An administrator is preparing a master image for a new Machine Creation Services (MCS) catalog that will deliver Windows 11 desktops. The administrator must ensure the master image is properly generalized and optimized. Which two actions must be performed before shutting down the master image? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Run the Citrix Optimizer tool to apply recommended optimizations. The master image must include the Virtual Desktop Agent so that provisioned machines can register with the Delivery Controller. Additionally, running Citrix Optimizer is a best practice to optimize performance. Sysprep is not needed for MCS, converting to a template is optional, and disabling Windows Update is not recommended.

Answer

Disable Windows Update to prevent automatic updates after deployment

Answer

Convert the virtual machine to a template in the hypervisor

Answer

Run Sysprep with the /generalize option to prepare the image for cloning

Question 18

An administrator is setting up a new Delivery Group that will provide access to a pooled-random machine catalog. The administrator needs to ensure that users are automatically assigned to a desktop when they log on, and that the desktop is returned to the pool when they log off. Which Delivery Group setting should the administrator configure?

Accepted Answer

Enable 'Desktop Assignment Rule' and set it to 'Automatic'.. For pooled-random desktops, automatic assignment and return are controlled by the Desktop Assignment Rule. Setting it to 'Automatic' ensures that each user receives an available desktop upon logon and that the desktop is returned to the pool after logoff. This provides a seamless experience without manual intervention, which is exactly what the administrator needs.

Answer

Configure a 'Session Pre-launch' schedule for the Delivery Group.

Answer

Set the 'Remote PC Access' option to 'Enabled'.

Answer

Enable 'Client Drive Mapping' in the Delivery Group policy.

Question 19

An administrator is preparing a master image for a new Machine Creation Services (MCS) catalog that will use Citrix Provisioning-style write cache redirection. The administrator wants to ensure that the final image is properly prepared before shutting down the master VM. Which TWO actions must be performed? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Install the Citrix Virtual Desktop Agent on the master image. Before shutting down a master VM for MCS, the administrator must install the Virtual Desktop Agent so provisioned machines can register with the Delivery Controller, and run the MCS image preparation tool to generalize the image and set the correct disk controller type. These two actions ensure that cloned VMs boot properly and are usable in the catalog.

Answer

Install Citrix Profile Management on the master image for all users

Answer

Run the Citrix Provisioning Services Imaging Wizard on the master VM

Answer

Convert the master VM's OS disk to a dynamically expanding VHDX

Question 20

An administrator is creating a new Machine Catalog using Machine Creation Services in Citrix Studio. The environment uses shared storage and the infrastructure team requires that snapshot and clone operations be offloaded to the storage array to reduce host CPU load during provisioning. The administrator selects a full clone method. Which two statements correctly describe the role of the hosting unit in this configuration? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

The hosting unit determines the hypervisor platform and the credentials used by Citrix Studio to communicate with it.. The hosting unit in Citrix Studio is the connection object that tells MCS which hypervisor, storage repository, and network to use. It also contains the platform type and credentials for hypervisor communication. These two facts are essential when planning a full clone deployment that relies on shared storage for offloaded clone operations. The other options describe features unrelated to the hosting unit or confuse MCS with PVS.

Answer

The hosting unit must point to a Provisioning Services vDisk store to support full clone creation.

Answer

The hosting unit automatically enables thin provisioning on the storage array during catalog creation.

Answer

The hosting unit must be configured with a Personal vDisk drive letter that matches the master image.
