CLCOR ON Premises Call Control Practice Test 6 — 15 Questions

Question 1

What is the function of 'Cisco Unified Reporting' in a CUCM environment?

Accepted Answer

To generate cluster and system reports.. Cisco Unified Reporting is a CUCM administration interface that generates on-demand reports about the cluster, such as device counts, license usage, dial plan summaries, and system health snapshots. It is designed for reporting and troubleshooting, not real-time monitoring or configuration. It pulls data from the CUCM database and presents it in downloadable formats like PDF or CSV.

Answer

To monitor network bandwidth.

Answer

To manage real-time call logs.

Answer

To perform bulk configuration.

Question 2

What is the purpose of the 'Common Device Configuration' in CUCM?

Accepted Answer

To group shared settings like softkey templates.. The Common Device Configuration in CUCM is a template that groups shared device-level settings — such as softkey templates, phone button templates, and other common parameters — so they can be applied to multiple devices without configuring each one individually. This reduces administrative overhead and ensures consistency across phones.

Answer

To manage trunk security.

Answer

To manage bandwidth.

Answer

To manage user passwords.

Question 3

Which object acts as the primary container for a specific set of users in CUCM?

Accepted Answer

User Group. In Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), a User Group is the primary container for a set of users and serves as the mechanism for assigning roles and permissions. It aggregates users for administrative purposes, such as granting them access to CUCM administration or specific features via role assignments.

Question 4

You are designing a dial plan with a centralized PSTN egress. What must you configure to ensure that local extensions can be dialed directly across sites?

Accepted Answer

A CSS that includes all site-specific partitions.. In a centralized PSTN egress design, each site's extensions reside in site-specific partitions. To allow any site to dial another site's extensions directly, the calling devices need a Calling Search Space (CSS) that includes all site-specific partitions. This enables the dial plan to match the dialed extension in the appropriate partition and route the call internally.

Answer

A shared device pool.

Answer

A translation pattern for each extension.

Answer

A route pattern that includes all extensions.

Question 5

Which service must be active for CTI applications (like Cisco Finesse) to control phones?

Accepted Answer

Cisco CTIManager. Cisco CTIManager is the service that provides the Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) interface, allowing applications like Cisco Finesse, Jabber, and third-party CTI apps to monitor and control phones and lines. Without CTIManager active, CTI applications cannot control devices.

Question 6

You are migrating to a new SIP provider. You have a requirement to use 'Early Offer' for all calls on this trunk. Where is this configured?

Accepted Answer

SIP Profile. Early Offer for a SIP trunk is configured in the SIP Profile, which contains parameters such as 'Early Offer support for voice and video calls' and 'MTP Required'. The SIP Profile is assigned to the SIP trunk and controls whether CUCM sends an INVITE with SDP (Early Offer) or without SDP (Delayed Offer). This is the correct location for this setting.

Answer

SIP Trunk Security Profile

Answer

Question 7

Which field in a Route Pattern can be used to discard the first few digits of a dialed number before routing?

Accepted Answer

Discard Digits. The 'Discard Digits' field in a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Route Pattern is specifically designed to strip leading digits from the dialed number before the call is routed. It uses predefined discard digit instructions (such as PreDot, PreAt, or NoDigits) to remove unwanted prefixes like access codes or area codes. This transformation occurs before the number is presented to the destination, ensuring the correct digits are sent.

Question 8

A user reports that they cannot hold an active call when the Media Resource Group List (MRGL) is configured with a specific Transcoder. The CUCM trace shows 'Allocation Failure'. What is the most likely cause?

Accepted Answer

The MRG associated with the MRGL lacks the required Transcoder resource for the codec mismatch.. The 'Allocation Failure' in CUCM traces during a hold operation with a transcoder in the MRGL indicates that CUCM could not find a usable transcoder resource to satisfy the media requirement. The most likely cause is that the Media Resource Group (MRG) referenced by the MRGL does not actually contain the transcoder needed for the codec mismatch, so the resource lookup fails and the hold (which may require renegotiation or MTP/transcoding) cannot complete.

Answer

The CUCM version does not support hardware transcoders.

Answer

The Transcoder device is registered but the MRGL priority is set to 0.

Answer

The device is using G.711 which requires a transcoder by default.

Question 9

When configuring a Device Pool in CUCM, which parameter is responsible for defining the set of codecs used between devices in different regions?

Accepted Answer

Region. In Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), a Region defines the set of codecs used for calls between devices within that region and between different regions. Regions are used to manage bandwidth by specifying which codecs are allowed for intra-region and inter-region communication. The Region parameter directly controls the codec selection for calls between devices in different regions.

Question 10

You are troubleshooting a scenario where internal calls between two sites are failing. The call fails immediately when dialed. What is the most effective way to verify that the Calling Search Space (CSS) has access to the destination partition?

Accepted Answer

Use the Dialed Number Analyzer (DNA) tool.. The Dialed Number Analyzer (DNA) tool in Cisco Unified Communications Manager simulates a call from a specified calling device/DN to a dialed number, showing exactly which partitions, CSS, translation patterns, route patterns, and route lists are matched. It is the definitive tool for verifying whether a CSS has access to the destination partition and for pinpointing where dial plan processing fails.

Answer

Check the 'Route Filter' list.

Answer

Use the 'Route Pattern' report in Cisco Unified Reporting.

Answer

Reset the SIP trunk.

Question 11

You need to implement redundancy for a remote site using Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST). Which parameter in the Device Pool ensures that the phones fail over to the local router during a CUCM WAN outage?

Accepted Answer

SRST Reference. The SRST Reference is a Device Pool parameter that points to an SRST Reference object, which contains the IP address of the local router running SRST. When CUCM is unreachable, phones configured with that Device Pool fall back to the SRST router for call processing. This is the specific parameter that enables SRST failover for a remote site.

Question 12

Which CUCM service must be activated in Serviceability to allow for the use of the 'Cisco Extension Mobility' feature?

Accepted Answer

Cisco Extension Mobility. The 'Cisco Extension Mobility' service is a dedicated feature service in Cisco Unified Serviceability that must be activated on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) cluster. Activating this service enables the Extension Mobility feature, allowing users to log in to any phone and have their personal directory number, speed dials, and services applied. Without this service running, the Extension Mobility login and logout functions will not work, even if the feature is configured in CUCM Administration.

Question 13

You are implementing a 'Call Hunt' sequence. You want to ensure that if no agent answers within 20 seconds, the call moves to the next member in the list. Which configuration object manages this timer?

Accepted Answer

Line Group. In CUCM Call Hunt (a line group hunt), the Line Group configuration object contains the 'Hunt Options' settings, including the 'No Answer' timer (default 12 seconds, configurable up to 20+ seconds) that determines how long a member rings before the call moves to the next member. The Line Group also defines the distribution algorithm (top-down, longest idle, circular, broadcast) and the member order.

Question 14

An administrator needs to restrict a group of phones from making long-distance calls. Which component of the CUCM dial plan should be modified to achieve this while maintaining internal dialing?

Accepted Answer

Calling Search Space. The Calling Search Space (CSS) is the CUCM dial plan component that defines which partitions a device or line can access. By assigning a CSS that excludes the long-distance partition (while including internal partitions), the administrator restricts long-distance calls while preserving internal dialing. This is the standard method for class of service restrictions.
