156-315.81.20 Practice Test 15 — 15 Questions

Question 1

When troubleshooting SecureXL, what does the 'fwaccel stats -t' command provide?

Accepted Answer

Detailed information about acceleration templates.. The 'fwaccel stats -t' command displays information about the acceleration templates. Templates are the mechanisms SecureXL uses to identify and accelerate recurring traffic flows. Understanding these templates is key to performance tuning, as it allows the administrator to verify that their traffic is successfully being identified and offloaded. If templates are not being created, the gateway will not accelerate traffic effectively, leading to lower throughput and higher overhead on the CPU.

Answer

Global acceleration status.

Answer

CPU utilization per core.

Answer

List of dropped connections.

Question 2

What is the result of a 'cphastop' command on a cluster member?

Accepted Answer

It forces the member to a DOWN state and stops cluster traffic processing.. The 'cphastop' command disables the ClusterXL kernel module on that specific member. This effectively removes the node from the cluster, causing all traffic to fail over to the remaining node(s). This command is useful during maintenance, but administrators must exercise caution as it immediately interrupts local traffic processing and forces the peer to assume the full load.

Answer

It initiates a graceful reboot of the cluster member.

Answer

It enables the standby mode for the member indefinitely.

Answer

It clears the connection table and restarts the firewall service.

Question 3

An organization requires that all incoming files be sanitized immediately to ensure business continuity. Which configuration setting is most appropriate?

Accepted Answer

Enable 'Threat Extraction' in the Threat Prevention policy.. Threat Extraction is the only technology that offers near-instant sanitization. By removing active content from documents, it provides a safe version of the file immediately to the user. This satisfies the business requirement for continuity while maintaining a strong security posture by preventing malicious active content from being executed on the user's host, even before the longer emulation process completes.

Answer

Enable 'Hold' mode for Threat Emulation on all files.

Answer

Disable Threat Emulation and rely solely on IPS.

Answer

Increase the timeout for Threat Emulation to 600 seconds.

Question 4

Which file type is most commonly targeted by Threat Extraction for active content removal?

Accepted Answer

Microsoft Word documents. Threat Extraction is highly effective for documents that support scripting or active objects, such as Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDFs. These formats frequently contain macros or OLE objects that attackers use to deliver malware. By stripping these elements, the gateway ensures the file remains functional for the user while removing the potential for malicious code execution, which is the primary goal of the extraction technology.

Answer

JPEG images

Answer

Compressed ZIP files

Answer

MP3 audio files

Question 5

Which Identity Awareness source is best suited for identifying users connecting from non-Windows devices like mobile phones or tablets?

Accepted Answer

Captive Portal. For non-Windows devices that cannot use AD Query or Identity Agents, Captive Portal is the most effective solution. It provides a web-based authentication interface that works across all platforms, ensuring that users on mobile devices are correctly identified and authenticated before being granted access to network resources. This platform-agnostic approach is essential for supporting modern Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies.

Answer

AD Query

Answer

Identity Agent

Answer

Terminal Servers (Identity Agent)

Question 6

Refer to the exhibit. An administrator runs a CLI command to test policy evaluation for a specific client IP address. What does the output indicate about the gateway's evaluation process?

Accepted Answer

The PDP successfully resolved the source IP address to a user matching the 'Finance_Users' access role and evaluated the rule action.. The 'pdp test access' command simulates how the Policy Decision Point evaluates traffic against defined access roles and Identity Awareness rules. The output confirms that traffic from 10.100.20.15 matches the 'Finance_Users' access role via AD Query and would be permitted, verifying policy logic.

Answer

The gateway successfully authenticated the user via Captive Portal and applied the firewall rule.

Answer

The firewall dropped the packet because the destination port 80 is restricted for Finance department users.

Answer

The Policy Enforcement Point rejected the connection because the user credentials expired in Active Directory.

Question 7

When utilizing Identity Awareness, what is the primary purpose of the 'Identity Logging' feature in the context of compliance and auditing?

Accepted Answer

To provide accurate user-based attribution in security logs for auditing. Identity Logging maps IP addresses to specific usernames within the SmartView Tracker and SmartConsole logs. This visibility is critical for compliance, as it allows administrators to perform forensic analysis, verifying exactly which user accessed which resource at a given time. By replacing ambiguous IP-based logs with identity-rich logs, organizations can meet regulatory requirements and accurately attribute network activities to human users rather than just transient internal IP addresses.

Answer

To increase the throughput of the Security Gateway

Answer

To enable automatic user account lockout upon detecting suspicious traffic

Answer

To allow the gateway to perform local user authentication without AD

Question 8

An administrator configures Identity Awareness in a Check Point environment using Active Directory Query as the primary identity source. Users suddenly report that access policies based on user groups are randomly failing. What is the most likely root cause of this behavior?

Accepted Answer

The Active Directory Domain Controllers are purging security event logs too quickly, causing the gateway to miss logon events.. Active Directory Query relies on tracking user logons via Windows security event logs. If the Security Event log fills up quickly and overwrites old events before the Security Gateway queries them, user identity mapping is lost. Administrators must monitor event log sizes and generation rates carefully to prevent authentication state dropouts in high-traffic enterprise environments.

Answer

The Identity Awareness Web API service on the Security Gateway stopped responding because port 443 is blocked.

Answer

Check Point Identity Agents must be forcibly reinstalled on every workstation to refresh the Kerberos ticket cache.

Answer

The LDAP Account Unit configuration is missing the required Read-Write credentials for the domain administrator account.

Question 9

Which TWO of the following are required to implement Check Point VPN with third-party interoperability using generic IKE settings?

Accepted Answer

Configure the Gateway type as 'Other' in the VPN Community.. When integrating Check Point with third-party devices, interoperability depends on strictly defining the IKE Phase 1 and Phase 2 proposals. These settings must be manually matched between the gateways. Using the 'Other' gateway type in the VPN Community is essential, as it allows for custom IKE settings that are not constrained by Check Point's proprietary features, ensuring compatibility with standard IPSec implementations from other vendors.

Answer

Enable 'Check Point Proprietary' IKE extensions.

Answer

Use Check Point ClusterXL in High Availability mode.

Answer

Configure the VPN tunnel to use the IKEv1 protocol only.

Question 10

Refer to the exhibit. An administrator is trying to refresh group membership for a user manually using the CLI. What is the most likely cause of this error?

Accepted Answer

The LDAP Account Unit configuration is incorrect or unreachable.. The error explicitly points to a failure in the communication between the Security Gateway and the LDAP Account Unit. This is typically caused by a misconfigured LDAP server object, incorrect service account credentials, or a network firewall blocking the communication between the gateway and the LDAP server. The gateway cannot resolve the user's group memberships without a successful connection to the LDAP directory.

Answer

The user does not exist in the local LDAP directory.

Answer

The user is logged out of the network.

Answer

Identity Awareness blade is disabled on the management server.

Question 11

Which TWO of the following scenarios would typically prevent a connection from being accelerated by SecureXL?

Accepted Answer

The connection involves a protocol that requires complex stateful inspection.. SecureXL requires simple, predictable flows to maintain high-speed acceleration. Scenarios such as the use of specific features that require deep inspection (like certain IPS signatures) or non-standard protocols often force traffic to the slow path. Identifying these scenarios is vital for performance tuning, as understanding what limits acceleration helps administrators design policies that maximize the percentage of accelerated traffic, thus improving overall gateway throughput and reducing latency.

Answer

The connection is using clear-text HTTP.

Answer

The traffic is traversing a standard Layer 2 switch.

Answer

The connection is a simple ICMP echo request.

Question 12

Which THREE of the following are valid methods for deploying the SandBlast Threat Emulation service?

Accepted Answer

Cloud-based emulation service. SandBlast Threat Emulation is a flexible technology that can be deployed in multiple ways depending on the organization's architecture. It can reside on the local gateway for on-premises inspection, be offloaded to a dedicated appliance, or utilize the public cloud service. Understanding these deployment options is essential for architects to design solutions that meet performance requirements while maintaining deep inspection capabilities across various network segments and diverse traffic flows.

Answer

Endpoint agent only emulation

Answer

Log server emulation

Question 13

What happens if a user tries to download a file, and the Threat Emulation service is temporarily unreachable?

Accepted Answer

The file is allowed based on the configured 'Failure Mode' setting in the Threat Prevention profile.. The 'fail-open' vs 'fail-close' behavior is a critical security design decision. If the service is unreachable and the system is set to fail-open, the file is allowed to protect productivity. If set to fail-close, the file is blocked to maintain security. The default behavior is typically to allow the file to pass to prevent service disruption, but this must be aligned with the organization's risk tolerance.

Answer

The file is always blocked to ensure maximum security.

Answer

The file is cached locally and then re-emulated once the service is back.

Answer

The file is automatically sent to the Threat Extraction engine for sanitization.

Question 14

Refer to the exhibit. You are performing a cluster upgrade. You have successfully upgraded Member 2. What is the next logical step?

Accepted Answer

Perform a failover to make Member 2 active.. After upgrading the standby member, the next step is to perform a controlled failover. By switching the active status to the newly upgraded member, you can test its stability under load while the original primary member is prepared for its own upgrade. This ensures that any issues are detected before both members are on the new version, providing a crucial fail-safe for the production environment.

Answer

Immediately reboot the active member.

Answer

Push the policy to both members simultaneously.

Answer

Disable the synchronization interface.

Question 15

An administrator is configuring a ClusterXL High Availability (HA) solution. Which mechanism does the cluster use to ensure that the standby member can take over traffic seamlessly if the active member fails?

Accepted Answer

The State Synchronization (Sync) network replicates kernel tables, ensuring the standby unit possesses an identical connection table.. ClusterXL High Availability maintains state synchronization via the State Synchronization network (Sync). By replicating connection tables, sequence numbers, and NAT translations, the standby member can assume the active role without dropping existing TCP connections. This ensures high availability and minimal downtime during failover events. Understanding this synchronization process is critical for troubleshooting traffic drops that occur specifically during transition states between cluster members.

Answer

The cluster uses Gratuitous ARP to update the upstream switch MAC address tables with the virtual IP address.

Answer

The cluster utilizes the Security Gateway Control Protocol (SGCP) to synchronize session states and kernel tables between all active cluster members.

Answer

The cluster uses VRRP priority increments to negotiate which member maintains the connection state in the kernel.
