Alteryx-Core Multiple Select — 10 Questions

Question 1

Which THREE operations can be performed using the Data Cleansing tool?

Accepted Answer

Replace null values with 0 or empty strings.. The Data Cleansing tool automates repetitive tasks like null replacement, whitespace removal, and case conversion. By centralizing these operations, it improves workflow efficiency and data quality. Recognizing which tasks this specific tool handles prevents the unnecessary building of complex Formula tool expressions for simple, standard data cleaning requirements that are better handled by this built-in utility.

Answer

Change field data types to integer or float.

Answer

Pivot data from wide to long format.

Question 2

Which THREE operations can the Summarize tool perform?

Accepted Answer

Calculate the average of a numeric field. The Summarize tool is a versatile aggregation utility in Alteryx. It can perform string concatenations, numerical calculations (like sum or average), and spatial analysis (like object centroid). Mastery of this tool is essential because it is the primary way to reduce dimensionality and consolidate data, transforming granular records into meaningful summaries that provide business context, which is a fundamental requirement for reporting and dashboarding workflows.

Answer

Filter out null values

Answer

Pivot data to wide format

Question 3

Which TWO of the following are valid uses for the Data Cleansing tool in Alteryx?

Accepted Answer

Replacing null values with a specific constant or zero. The Data Cleansing tool is a versatile utility for automated data remediation. It excels at handling missing values and whitespace, which are common issues in raw data. By providing a single interface for these tasks, it simplifies workflows. Understanding its capabilities is essential for standardizing datasets before they enter analytical models, where nulls or excess spaces would otherwise cause calculation errors or join failures.

Answer

Performing advanced fuzzy matching on address fields

Answer

Renaming column headers based on a lookup file

Answer

Changing the data type of a column to Blob

Question 4

Which TWO settings in the Data Cleansing tool handle missing values?

Accepted Answer

Replace Nulls with 0 (for numeric fields). The Data Cleansing tool simplifies cleaning by offering preset options for common issues. For missing values, it allows you to replace nulls with zero for numbers or blank strings for text. This is a crucial step in data preparation, as downstream tools often fail or behave unpredictably when they encounter null values in numeric fields, necessitating a standardized replacement strategy early in the workflow.

Answer

Replace Nulls with 1 (for numeric fields)

Answer

Replace Nulls with 'Unknown'

Answer

Remove rows with Nulls

Question 5

Which TWO settings in the 'Text to Columns' tool allow you to define how data is split?

Accepted Answer

Delimiter. The Text to Columns tool requires a 'Delimiter' to identify where to split the text and an 'Output' method to decide whether to create new columns or new rows. These two configurations are the fundamental controls that determine the shape of your output data. Understanding how these interplay is essential for converting flat files or messy strings into structured, analytical datasets.

Answer

Number of columns

Answer

Data type of the resulting fields

Answer

Encoding format of the input file

Question 6

Which TWO of the following are true about the Summarize tool?

Accepted Answer

It can be used to concatenate multiple string values into a single cell.. The Summarize tool is the engine for data aggregation. It allows users to perform operations like sum, count, average, and concatenation on a per-group basis. Because it changes the granularity of the dataset, understanding its output behavior is vital for reporting. Mastering this tool allows users to transform granular transactional data into high-level business summaries effectively.

Answer

It creates a new field for every input row.

Answer

It automatically retains all original columns in the output.

Answer

It performs joins between two different datasets.

Question 7

Which THREE actions are commonly performed using the Data Cleansing tool?

Accepted Answer

Replacing null values with zero or blanks. The Data Cleansing tool is a powerful macro that automates repetitive cleanup tasks. It is frequently used to handle null values, remove leading or trailing whitespace, and standardize character cases. These actions are fundamental to data quality processes, ensuring that datasets are consistent and prepared for downstream modeling or reporting. By automating these common tasks, the Data Cleansing tool allows developers to focus on higher-level logic rather than manual data hygiene.

Answer

Joining two datasets on a common field

Answer

Calculating the sum of numeric columns

Question 8

Which TWO tools can be used to split a single string column into multiple columns based on a delimiter?

Accepted Answer

Text to Columns. The Text to Columns tool is the primary utility for splitting delimited strings into distinct columns. However, the Regex tool provides more advanced control for complex patterns. Understanding these two tools ensures developers can handle various data ingestion scenarios, from simple CSV-style fields to complex, non-uniform string patterns that require specific parsing logic to organize data into a usable tabular format.

Question 9

Which THREE of the following are benefits of using the Alteryx Gallery for workflow management?

Accepted Answer

Centralized storage and sharing of workflows. The Alteryx Gallery serves as the centralized hub for sharing, versioning, and scheduling analytical assets. By leveraging this platform, organizations can shift from local, siloed development to a collaborative environment. Key benefits include the ability to control who accesses which workflows, the preservation of historical versions, and the automation of repetitive tasks through server-based scheduling, which ensures consistency and reliability across the entire data analytics team.

Answer

Automatic translation of workflows to Python

Answer

Direct access to the local machine's BIOS

Question 10

Which TWO settings in the Sort tool affect the order of the output records?

Accepted Answer

Field name. The Sort tool determines order based on two key configurations: the specific field selected for sorting and the direction (Ascending/Descending). Mastering the sort order is vital for downstream operations like deduplication with the Unique tool or selecting top rows with the Sample tool. Understanding how nulls are handled and how multiple sort keys interact ensures that data is consistently sequenced for analytical consistency, which is a core requirement for reliable data manipulation workflows.
