UiPath-ADAv1 Excel and Email Automation Practice Test 1 — 15 Questions

Question 1

When extracting tables from an email using the 'Get Outlook Mail Messages' activity, what is the best way to parse the HTML body for tabular data?

Accepted Answer

Parse the Body string using Regex or convert HTML to DataTable.. The 'Extract Table Data' activity is designed for UI elements in browsers or applications, not for parsing raw HTML strings retrieved from email bodies. The correct approach is to parse the HTML string using libraries like HtmlAgilityPack or Regex, or by converting the HTML to a DataTable via specialized activities or code blocks.

Answer

Use the 'Get Text' activity on the email body directly.

Answer

Use a 'Find Element' activity to locate the table tags.

Answer

Take a screenshot of the email and use OCR to read the table.

Question 2

When writing to an Excel file, you notice the bot is extremely slow when applying formulas to thousands of rows. What is the optimal solution?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Invoke VBA' activity to perform the calculations.. The explanation correctly identifies that writing row-by-row is slow and suggests using 'Write Cell' or 'Auto Fill' across a range or 'Write Range'. However, the marked correct answer is 'Invoke VBA'. While VBA is a valid way to handle bulk operations, the explanation focuses on bulk Excel activities (Write Range/Auto Fill) rather than justifying why VBA is the 'optimal' solution over native activities.

Answer

Use a 'For Each Row' loop to calculate values and write them to cells.

Answer

Increase the 'Timeout' property of the Write Cell activity.

Answer

Restart the Excel application after every 100 rows.

Question 3

You are automating an invoice processing workflow using the Modern Excel activities. The workflow must read data from a sheet named 'Invoices' in an .xlsx file that is currently open in Excel. The file is locked by another user. Which activity should you use to read the data without requiring the file to be closed?

Accepted Answer

Read Range (Excel) inside Use Excel File. The Modern Excel activity Read Range, when placed inside a Use Excel File scope, is designed to work with open Excel files and supports .xlsx formats. It can read data from a specific sheet even if the file is locked by another user, as long as the Excel application is running. This makes it the correct choice for automating invoice processing without disrupting the user's open file.

Answer

Read CSV

Answer

Read Cell Value

Answer

Read Range (Workbook)

Question 4

You are using the 'Get Outlook Mail Messages' activity to retrieve emails from a shared mailbox. The activity is configured to read from the 'Inbox' folder, but it returns no messages even though there are emails. What is the most likely cause?

Accepted Answer

The 'Account' property is not set to the shared mailbox's email address.. To access a shared mailbox with 'Get Outlook Mail Messages', you must specify the shared mailbox's address in the 'Account' property. If omitted, the activity defaults to the logged-in user's mailbox, resulting in no messages from the shared mailbox. This is the most common configuration error.

Answer

The 'Filter' property is set to a condition that excludes all emails.

Answer

The 'MailFolder' property is set to 'Inbox' but should be set to the full path including the mailbox name.

Answer

The 'OnlyUnreadMessages' property is set to True, and all emails are read.

Question 5

You are automating an Excel process that reads a range from a sheet and then writes the data to a new sheet in the same workbook. The workflow uses the Modern Excel activities. After running, you notice that the new sheet contains the data but the original sheet's formatting is lost. What is the most likely cause?

Accepted Answer

The Write Range activity is writing to the original sheet instead of the new sheet due to an incorrect sheet name.. The most likely cause is that the Write Range activity is targeting the original sheet instead of the new sheet, overwriting its content and formatting. This can happen if the sheet name property is hardcoded incorrectly or if a variable holding the sheet name is not updated. Always verify the sheet name parameter to ensure data is written to the intended destination.

Answer

The Write Range activity overwrites the entire sheet, including formatting.

Answer

The Use Excel File activity is configured to save changes, but the original sheet was modified by another process.

Answer

The Read Range activity reads only values, not formatting, so when writing, formatting is not preserved.

Question 6

You are using the 'Use Excel File' activity to automate an Excel process. You need to ensure that the Excel file is closed properly after the automation completes, even if an error occurs. Which two actions should you perform? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Place the Excel activities inside a 'Try Catch' block and close the Excel file in the 'Finally' section.. The 'Use Excel File' activity automatically manages the Excel file's lifecycle, closing it upon completion even if errors occur. Additionally, wrapping activities in a 'Try Catch' with closure in the 'Finally' block provides a safety net. Together, these ensure proper closure.

Answer

Set the 'ReadOnly' property of the 'Use Excel File' activity to False.

Answer

Set the 'Visible' property of the 'Use Excel File' activity to False.

Answer

Add a 'Close Workbook' activity at the end of the workflow.

Question 7

You are automating an Excel process that reads a 50,000-row dataset. Which approach ensures the highest performance when extracting data for processing?

Accepted Answer

Use Read Range with PreserveFormat disabled to load the data into a DataTable.. Using the Read Range activity with the 'PreserveFormat' option disabled is the most efficient way to handle large datasets. By reading the data into a DataTable in memory, you eliminate the overhead of repeated cell-by-cell interactions via UI or COM objects. This approach is critical for scalability in production environments, as it reduces execution time significantly and minimizes the risk of timeout errors during large data transformations.

Answer

Iterate through each row using For Each Row in Workbook and use Read Cell.

Answer

Use the Excel Process Scope and Read Range activity with PreserveFormat enabled.

Answer

Use the UI Automation activity type to scrape the Excel grid into a variable.

Question 8

Which TWO actions are necessary when using the 'Use Excel File' and 'Read Range' activities within an Excel Process Scope to ensure the file is properly closed after the process completes?

Accepted Answer

Ensure all Excel activities are nested within the Excel Process Scope block.. The Excel Process Scope handles the lifecycle of the Excel application process. By default, it closes the workbook and the associated Excel instance after the scope terminates, provided no other tasks are running. Ensuring that all activities are contained within the block and that the 'Save Changes' property is correctly configured prevents zombie Excel processes from lingering in the background, which could lead to memory leaks or file locks.

Answer

Manually add a Kill Process activity for Excel at the end of the scope.

Answer

Use a Close Workbook activity at the end of every Excel scope iteration.

Answer

Set the Visible property to True to monitor the file closing process.

Question 9

Refer to the exhibit. The automation fails to send an email with a 20MB attachment. Which is the most likely cause and solution?

Accepted Answer

Increase the Timeout property in the activity properties.. The 'Operation has timed out' error in SMTP usually indicates that the attachment size exceeds the server's threshold or that the network latency prevents the upload within the defined 5000ms timeout window. Increasing the Timeout property in the Send SMTP Mail Message activity allows more time for the server to acknowledge the transmission of large files, which is necessary when working with substantial email attachments in enterprise mail environments.

Answer

Change the Port to 25 and set EnableSSL to False.

Answer

The server address is incorrect and should be set to pop.outlook.com.

Answer

The error is caused by an invalid sender email address format.

Question 10

Which activity should be used to move an email from the Inbox to a specific subfolder after it has been processed?

Accepted Answer

Move Outlook Mail Message. The 'Move Outlook Mail Message' activity is the native and most efficient way to organize emails within Outlook. By providing the specific 'MoveTo' folder path, the activity interacts directly with the Outlook API to relocate the message. This ensures the Inbox remains clean and that processed items are categorized correctly for audit purposes, which is a fundamental requirement for maintaining scalable and organized email automation workflows.

Answer

Delete Outlook Mail Message

Answer

Save Outlook Mail Message

Answer

Update Outlook Mail Message

Question 11

Which THREE criteria are commonly used to filter emails when using the 'Get Outlook Mail Messages' activity to ensure only relevant items are retrieved?

Accepted Answer

Sender address. Efficient filtering is essential to minimize the number of objects the robot retrieves, thereby reducing memory usage and execution time. By applying filters directly within the activity, the robot offloads the search logic to the Outlook provider, resulting in faster and more accurate results. Targeting specific senders, subjects, or timeframes prevents the automation from processing unwanted emails, which is crucial for high-reliability business processes that handle large volumes of messages.

Answer

Email body content

Answer

Attachment presence

Question 12

Refer to the exhibit. Why is the Read Range activity throwing an exception even though 'Data.xlsx' exists and contains data?

Accepted Answer

The SheetName property is incorrect or missing.. The error 'The range does not exist' often occurs when the specified SheetName is missing or invalid in the workbook. While the activity refers to the file, it requires a valid sheet reference. If the default sheet name does not match (e.g., the sheet is named 'Sheet1' but the activity defaults to blank), the robot cannot locate the range, leading to an argument exception during execution.

Answer

The file is password protected and cannot be opened.

Answer

The DataTable variable 'dt_Result' is not initialized.

Answer

The file is currently being edited by another user.

Question 13

You need to send an email with an attachment that is generated during the runtime. What is the critical step to ensure the file is ready to be attached?

Accepted Answer

Use a 'Retry Scope' to wait until the file is accessible.. Before attaching a file to an email, you must ensure the file handle has been released by the application that created it (e.g., Excel or a PDF generator). If the automation attempts to access the file while the generating application still has an open lock, the 'Send SMTP Mail Message' activity will fail. Implementing a short delay or verifying file existence is standard practice to ensure stability.

Answer

Use the 'Wait for Download' activity.

Answer

Enable the 'DelayAfter' property on the Send Mail activity.

Answer

Rename the file immediately after creation.

Question 14

Which activity is best suited for updating a specific cell value in an Excel file without loading the entire sheet into a DataTable?

Accepted Answer

Write Cell.. The 'Write Cell' activity is the most efficient choice for updating individual cell values. It directly targets a specific location (e.g., 'A1') without the memory overhead of reading, modifying, and re-writing the entire dataset. This is highly performant for processes that perform targeted updates, such as marking a row as 'Processed' in a status column, which is common in operational automation workflows.

Answer

Read Range followed by Write Range.

Answer

Update Row Item.

Answer

Append Range.

Question 15

Which TWO of the following are true regarding the use of 'Get Outlook Mail Messages' in a production environment?

Accepted Answer

The 'OnlyUnreadMessages' property should be used to prevent duplicate processing.. Production email automation requires careful handling of email volumes and API limits. By default, the activity retrieves the top 30 messages, which can be insufficient or cause performance issues if not tuned. Additionally, managing the 'OnlyUnreadMessages' property is critical for ensuring that emails are not processed multiple times, which is a common source of duplication errors in automated customer service or finance workflows.

Answer

It is best practice to leave the 'Top' property empty to retrieve all emails.

Answer

The activity works independently of the Outlook application being open.

Answer

You must use an 'SMTP' activity to retrieve emails from the server.
