CIS-ITSM Service Catalog And Request Management Practice Test 1 — 15 Questions

Question 1

A Catalog Client Script of type 'OnChange' is written for a variable inside a Multi-Row Variable Set (MRVS). The script fails to execute when the user changes the variable value within the grid modal. What is the reason for this behavior?

Choose an answer to begin — your selection is scored in the full session.

Accepted Answer

Multi-Row Variable Sets execute client-side logic inside an isolated modal scope where standard g_form methods for MRVS require specialized functions.. Standard Catalog Client Scripts do not support running OnChange events inside Multi-Row Variable Sets; specialized MRVS scripting or specific methods must be used.

Answer

Catalog Client Scripts cannot run on variables contained within variable sets.

Answer

The script execution order is set to 100 instead of 0.

Answer

The client script UI type must be set to 'Desktop' only.

Question 2

When configuring a Service Catalog item, which field determines the target table where records will be inserted when using a Record Producer?

Accepted Answer

Table name. The 'Table name' field on a Record Producer determines the target table where records will be inserted when the producer is submitted. This field specifies the table that will receive the new record.

Answer

Target Table

Answer

Task Table

Answer

Destination Class

Question 3

A fulfillment team requires that specific tasks within a Catalog Task activity are assigned dynamically based on the value of a variable selected by the user in the catalog item. How can an administrator achieve this in the Workflow designer?

Accepted Answer

Dot-walk from the Catalog Task activity configuration to the requested item variables to set the Assignment Group.. In the Workflow designer, the Catalog Task activity exposes the requested item's variables through dot-walking. Because the task is generated in the context of the requested item (sc_req_item), the administrator can dot-walk from the Catalog Task activity configuration into the requested item's variables (e.g., current.variables.<variable_name>) and use that value to drive the Assignment Group field dynamically. This is the native, supported mechanism for variable-driven task assignment within a workflow.

Answer

Use a Catalog Client Script to change the assignment group of the underlying task record directly.

Answer

Configure the Catalog Task activity assignment group field to reference a system property containing the mapping.

Answer

Write a Business Rule on the sc_req_item table that triggers before insert to assign the task.

Question 4

Where should an administrator navigate to configure global Service Catalog properties, such as enabling cart layouts or checkout options?

Accepted Answer

Service Catalog > Administration > Properties. Global Service Catalog properties, such as enabling cart layouts or checkout options, are configured by navigating to Service Catalog > Administration > Properties. This module contains the system properties that control catalog behavior across the instance.

Answer

Self-Service > Catalog Properties

Answer

System Properties > Service Catalog

Answer

Request Management > Setup > Properties

Question 5

An administrator needs to create a container within a Record Producer to organize variables in a two-column layout. Which variable type should be selected to start the two-column layout?

Accepted Answer

Container Split. In ServiceNow Service Catalog, the Container Split variable type is used to divide the form into columns, starting a multi-column layout. When placed in a Record Producer or Catalog Item, Container Split creates the column boundary that allows subsequent variables to be arranged side-by-side. It is the correct starting variable for a two-column layout, paired with Container End to close the container.

Answer

Container End

Answer

Container Begin

Answer

Column Split

Question 6

Which ServiceNow table stores individual catalog variables associated with catalog items and variable sets?

Accepted Answer

item_option_new. The item_option_new table is the core ServiceNow table that stores the definition of every catalog variable, including those belonging to catalog items and variable sets. Each record defines the variable's name, type, question text, order, and default value, and is referenced by both sc_cat_item and item_option_new_set relationships. This is the authoritative source for variable metadata used by the catalog UI and the variable editor.

Answer

sc_cat_item_variable

Answer

catalog_variable_def

Answer

sys_variable_value

Question 7

An enterprise requires that a specific workflow stage set on the Requested Item (sc_req_item) is dynamically updated based on custom fulfillment states. Which mechanism should be used to synchronize workflow stages with custom choices on the state field?

Accepted Answer

Configure 'Stage Field' mapping on the Workflow properties and ensure stage values match choice list values.. The Workflow properties include a 'Stage Field' mapping that links workflow stages to the values of a specified field (typically 'stage' on sc_req_item). When configured correctly, the workflow engine automatically updates the stage field as the workflow progresses, provided the stage values defined in the workflow match the choice list values on the target field. This is the native, supported mechanism for synchronizing workflow stages with custom state choices.

Answer

Modify the Service Portal angular widget for sc_req_item to evaluate custom stages.

Answer

Write an After Update Business Rule on sc_req_item that calls wf.running() to force stage recalculation.

Answer

Use a Catalog Client Script to update g_form.setValue('stage', newState).

Question 8

Which record type links a Record Producer to the target table field values?

Accepted Answer

Variable to Field assignment via the 'Field' field on the variable definition form.. Record Producer variable mappings (zy_mapped_field or direct field mapping) connect variables to table fields.

Answer

Catalog Variable Mapping

Answer

Field Map

Answer

Producer Variable Map

Question 9

A developer writes an onSubmit Catalog Client Script that performs an asynchronous GlideAjax call to validate data against a custom table before allowing form submission. The script returns false immediately before the AJAX response is received. How should this be handled in Service Portal?

Accepted Answer

Use the modern asynchronous onSubmit pattern with g_form.submitted and manual resubmission inside the AJAX callback.. In Service Portal, GlideAjax is inherently asynchronous, so an onSubmit client script cannot block submission while waiting for the response. The supported pattern is to return false from the initial onSubmit, set g_form.submitted = true, and then in the AJAX callback either allow submission to proceed or display an error and let the user correct the data. This preserves the async model without freezing the UI.

Answer

Change GlideAjax to synchronous mode by passing false as the third parameter in getXML().

Answer

Set the UI type of the client script to 'Desktop' to force synchronous execution.

Answer

Convert the script into a Catalog Data Policy with a script condition.

Question 10

An administrator wants to hide a specific variable when a checkbox variable is selected. However, the UI Policy action dropdown does not list 'Visible'. What is the correct way to control visibility in a Catalog UI Policy?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Visible' field action in the Catalog UI Policy Action related list and set it to false.. Catalog UI Policies in ServiceNow use a separate 'Catalog UI Policy Action' related list, which exposes catalog-specific field actions including 'Visible', 'Mandatory', and 'Read Only'. The standard UI Policy Action form for regular (non-catalog) UI policies does not include a 'Visible' action, which is why the administrator cannot find it in the dropdown. To hide a variable when a checkbox is selected, the administrator must add an action on the Catalog UI Policy Action related list, set the variable as the target, choose 'Visible' as the field, and set the value to false.

Answer

Set the 'Mandatory' field action to false to hide the variable.

Answer

Use a Catalog Client Script because UI policies cannot control visibility.

Answer

Modify the variable dictionary entry to be hidden.

Question 11

A fulfillment workflow has multiple parallel branches using 'Join' and 'If' activities. One of the branches creates a catalog task. If that task is cancelled, the workflow needs to skip subsequent approval steps in that branch. How should the administrator design this branch termination?

Accepted Answer

Check the 'Skip if task cancelled' checkbox directly on the Catalog Task workflow activity properties.. Using an 'If' activity or checking task state (e.g., state == 4 for cancelled) allows routing workflow paths conditionally when tasks are cancelled.

Answer

Use a Workflow Event Router to catch task state changes.

Answer

Write a Business Rule on sc_task that cancels the workflow engine context upon cancellation.

Answer

Attach a Timer activity set to 0 seconds to abort parallel execution.

Question 12

Which field on a Catalog Item defines the text displayed on the primary checkout button when ordering the item?

Accepted Answer

Order button text. The 'Order button text' field on a Catalog Item defines the label displayed on the primary checkout button when a user orders the item. This allows customization of the button text (e.g., 'Request', 'Order Now', 'Submit') per catalog item. It is a standard field in the ServiceNow catalog item form.

Answer

Checkout Label

Answer

Submit Label

Answer

Action Button Title

Question 13

An administrator is troubleshooting a failing Catalog Client Script. Which THREE of the following practices should be followed to ensure the script works correctly in Service Portal? (Choose three.)

Accepted Answer

Avoid direct DOM manipulation (e.g., document.getElementById) and use g_form APIs instead.. Option A is correct because Service Portal renders forms with AngularJS-based widgets rather than the classic Jelly UI, so direct DOM manipulation like document.getElementById can break; the supported approach is to use g_form APIs (e.g., g_form.getValue, g_form.setValue, g_form.setMandatory) which abstract the rendering layer. Option D is correct because a Catalog Client Script's UI Type field must be set to 'Mobile / Service Portal' or 'All' for the script to execute in the Service Portal; leaving it as 'Desktop' or 'Both' (legacy) prevents it from running in the portal. Option E is correct because testing with g_form methods that are supported in both desktop and portal ensures cross-interface compatibility, since some legacy methods (e.g., g_form.getControl) behave differently or are unavailable in the portal. Option B is incorrect because synchronous GlideRecord queries in client-side OnChange scripts block the UI and are discouraged; asynchronous callbacks (getReference, GlideAjax) should be used instead. Option C is incorrect because jQuery selector syntax is not the supported way to write client scripts and is unreliable in Service Portal's AngularJS environment; g_form APIs should be used instead.

Answer

Use synchronous GlideRecord queries inside client-side OnChange scripts for instant validation.

Answer

Write all client scripts using jQuery selector syntax for broad browser support.

Question 14

Which TWO of the following fields are required when defining a new Catalog Item? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Name. Option A (Name) is correct because every Catalog Item record in ServiceNow requires a unique, human-readable Name field to identify the item in the catalog and in search results; it is a mandatory field on the sc_cat_item table. Option B (Catalog) is correct because a Catalog Item must be associated with a Catalog (the sc_catalog reference) to determine where the item is published and made available to users; without it the item cannot be ordered. The other options are not mandatory: Workflow (C) is optional since an item can be fulfilled manually or via a different process, Recurring price frequency (D) only applies to recurring-cost items and is not required for standard items, and Price (E) can be left at zero or blank for free items.

Answer

Workflow

Answer

Recurring price frequency

Answer

Price

Question 15

An administrator is configuring cascading variables in an Order Guide. Which THREE conditions must be met for variables to successfully cascade from the order guide to child items? (Choose three.)

Accepted Answer

The variable types in both the order guide and the child item must match.. Cascading variables in a ServiceNow Order Guide require that the variable types in the order guide and the child catalog item match (for example, both must be a Reference type or both a Single Line Text type), because the cascade logic maps values by type compatibility, so option C is correct. Option D is correct because the variable names must match exactly—the system pairs order guide variables to child item variables by identical name, so any difference in spelling, spacing, or case prevents the value from cascading. Option E is correct because cascading only occurs for child items that are actually added to the order through the rule base evaluation; if a child item is not included by the rule base, its variables are never instantiated and cannot receive cascaded values. Option A is not required—'No Workflow' is unrelated to variable cascading and would not affect whether values propagate. Option B is incorrect because sharing the same sys_id is impossible for distinct catalog items and is not a condition for cascading; matching is based on variable name and type, not record identifiers.

Answer

The child item must have 'No Workflow' checked.

Answer

Both items must share the exact same sys_id.
