CIS-CSM Communities Practice Test 3 — 15 Questions

Question 1

An administrator needs to customize the layout of the Community Home page in the CSM portal. Which tool should the administrator use to modify page widgets and layout?

Accepted Answer

UI Builder or Service Portal Designer. The Community Home page in the CSM portal is rendered through the Service Portal framework, so its widgets and layout are edited using UI Builder (for Next Experience pages) or the Service Portal Designer (for classic portal pages). These tools expose the container, row, column, and widget structure that makes up the page, allowing drag-and-drop customization. Workflow Editor, Form Design, and Menu Designer operate on different artifacts and cannot modify portal page layout.

Answer

Workflow Editor

Answer

Form Design

Answer

Menu Designer

Question 2

A community member notices a spam post in a forum and wants to bring it to the attention of the moderators. What action should the user take on the post?

Accepted Answer

Click the 'Report' or 'Flag as Inappropriate' button on the post. Community users can flag or report content as inappropriate, which places it in a moderation queue for review.

Answer

Delete the post directly using administrative credentials

Answer

Submit a high-priority IT service desk incident

Answer

Close the forum category

Question 3

An organization has implemented custom security constraints for community content using custom scripting in User Criteria. When a user navigates to a community forum, performance is degraded. What is the recommended best practice to optimize script-based User Criteria in communities?

Accepted Answer

Ensure user criteria scripts are optimized, lightweight, and leverage caching to prevent performance bottlenecks. Script-based user criteria should be cached where possible and kept lightweight, as they execute frequently during portal rendering and search queries.

Answer

Replace all user criteria with synchronous client-side JavaScript

Answer

Disable security checks entirely for community content

Answer

Store user criteria results in client browser cookies

Question 4

A community user wants to follow a specific topic tag (e.g., #Billing) to receive updates whenever a new thread is created with that tag. How does the user achieve this?

Accepted Answer

Click 'Follow' or 'Subscribe' on the tag entity within the community portal. Users can subscribe or follow tags within the community interface to receive updates on discussions containing those tags.

Answer

Open a customer service case requesting tag notifications

Answer

Create a personal bookmark in their browser

Answer

Modify their email client rules to filter inbound mail

Question 5

A community manager wants to pin an important announcement thread to the top of a forum category list so that all visitors see it first. How is this configured?

Accepted Answer

Select the 'Pin' option on the community thread management menu. Pinning a thread to the top of a forum category is done by selecting the 'Pin' option on the community thread management menu. This sets a flag on the thread record that causes it to sort above non-pinned threads in the category listing.

Answer

Assign the thread to the 'Announcements' assignment group

Answer

Delete all other threads in the category

Answer

Change the system date of the post to the year 2030

Question 6

When configuring community forum settings, an administrator enables 'Expert Recognition'. What does this feature typically accomplish?

Accepted Answer

Displays badges and highlights contributions from users who frequently provide accepted answers. Expert recognition highlights users who have high reputation points or a high volume of accepted answers, displaying badges next to their usernames.

Answer

Sends financial rewards directly to user bank accounts

Answer

Automatically grants system administrator privileges to top posters

Answer

Automatically closes cases assigned to the user

Question 7

During an upgrade, customized portal widgets for the community home page stop rendering correctly. Where should an administrator look to check for widget dependency issues or script errors?

Accepted Answer

Service Portal Widget logs and browser console for JavaScript errors. When customized portal widgets fail after an upgrade, the Service Portal Widget logs and the browser console are the primary diagnostic tools. Widget logs capture server-side script errors from the widget's server script, while the browser console reveals client-side JavaScript errors from the widget's client controller or template rendering. Together they pinpoint dependency or API changes introduced by the upgrade.

Answer

The system upgrade history table (sys_upgrade_history) exclusively

Answer

The Dictionary Entries table

Answer

The Email Outbox table

Question 8

Which role is typically required for a user to moderate community posts, approve pending content, and manage reported items?

Accepted Answer

sn_communities_moderator. The sn_communities_moderator role is specifically designed to grant users the ability to moderate community posts, approve pending content, and manage reported items within the ServiceNow Communities application. This role includes the necessary permissions to perform content moderation tasks such as reviewing flagged posts, approving or rejecting submissions, and handling user reports. Other roles like knowledge_admin, sn_csm_admin, and itil do not inherently include these community moderation privileges.

Answer

knowledge_admin

Answer

sn_csm_admin

Answer

itil

Question 9

A company wants to reward community members based on quality contributions rather than sheer quantity of posts. Which reputation rule setting should the administrator adjust?

Accepted Answer

Configure point weights to award higher points for accepted answers and upvotes than for basic post creation. Reputation rules in ServiceNow Communities assign point values to different contribution types. To reward quality over quantity, the administrator adjusts point weights so that accepted answers and upvotes carry more points than simply creating a post or reply. This shifts the incentive structure toward helpful, validated contributions. The other options either disable the reputation system or impose punitive controls that do not address quality weighting.

Answer

Disable reputation points entirely and use manual spreadsheets

Answer

Require administrator approval for every single reply

Answer

Set maximum daily post limits to 1 per user

Question 10

What happens to a community discussion thread when it is locked by a moderator?

Accepted Answer

Users can no longer post new replies to the thread, but existing content remains visible. Locking a thread prevents users from adding further replies or comments to it while keeping the existing content visible.

Answer

The thread is automatically converted into an IT incident

Answer

Only system administrators can view the thread

Answer

The thread is permanently deleted from the database

Question 11

An administrator is configuring federated search across multiple ServiceNow instances or external repositories to include community discussions in CSM case deflection. Which framework enables this integration?

Accepted Answer

AI Search External Content Sources. AI Search External Content Sources is the ServiceNow framework that indexes and federates content from external repositories — including other ServiceNow instances, websites, and third-party knowledge bases — so it can surface in search results alongside native KB articles. In CSM, this is what allows community discussion content to appear in case deflection search results. The framework uses crawlers and connectors to build a unified search index across sources.

Answer

Inbound email REST APIs

Answer

JDBC data source imports

Answer

MID Server LDAP integration

Question 12

Which portal page serves as the entry point for users browsing community forums, blogs, and topics in the CSM portal?

Accepted Answer

Community Home. The Community Home page is the designated portal page that serves as the entry point for users to browse community forums, blogs, and topics. It aggregates community content and provides navigation to all community sections. Other portal pages serve different functions like catalog browsing or incident management.

Answer

Catalog Home

Answer

Incident Overview Page

Answer

Knowledge Base Landing Page

Question 13

Which TWO actions can a community moderator perform to maintain order and quality in peer-to-peer support forums? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Delete or edit inappropriate user-submitted posts. Option A is correct because community moderators are granted moderation rights over user-generated content, allowing them to delete or edit posts that violate forum guidelines, contain spam, or are otherwise inappropriate, which directly maintains order and quality in peer-to-peer support forums. Option E is correct because locking a discussion thread prevents further replies, which moderators use to stop off-topic arguments, flame wars, or outdated threads from continuing, thereby preserving forum quality. Options B, C, and D are not appropriate moderator actions: reassigning system-wide ITIL task queues (B) is an administrative/fulfillment function, modifying core ServiceNow system properties (C) requires elevated system administrator privileges, and creating new database tables via Studio (D) is a platform development task, none of which fall within the scope of community moderation.

Answer

Reassign system-wide ITIL task queues

Answer

Directly modify core ServiceNow system properties (sys_properties)

Answer

Create new database tables via Studio

Question 14

Which THREE factors are critical when designing peer-to-peer support communities to ensure effective case deflection? (Choose three.)

Accepted Answer

Organizing forums into logical, easy-to-navigate categories. Option A is correct because organizing forums into logical, easy-to-navigate categories lets users quickly locate the relevant discussion board and existing threads, which directly increases the likelihood they find an answer without opening a support case. Option B is correct because indexing community content and adding it to Contextual Search sources surfaces peer-generated answers alongside knowledge articles during case creation, enabling deflection at the point of need. Option D is correct because encouraging members and experts to mark accepted answers identifies verified, trustworthy solutions and improves the ranking and reuse of the best content, which strengthens deflection. Option C is not appropriate because disabling authentication invites spam and abuse, degrading content quality and trust rather than improving deflection. Option E is not appropriate because manually hardcoding community replies into static knowledge articles is unscalable and bypasses the dynamic, searchable community model that drives effective deflection.

Answer

Disabling all authentication requirements so anonymous bots can spam the forums

Answer

Hardcoding all community replies into static knowledge articles manually

Question 15

Which THREE configuration steps are involved when setting up gamification and reputation management in CSM communities? (Choose three.)

Accepted Answer

Defining point values for specific community actions (e.g., creating a post, receiving an upvote). Option A is correct because gamification in CSM communities starts with defining point values for specific community actions such as creating a post or receiving an upvote, which drives user engagement scoring. Option B is correct because reputation rules are configured to translate accumulated points or activity into user tier levels or expert statuses, enabling recognition and progression. Option E is correct because creating custom badges and assigning threshold requirements is a core gamification step that visually rewards users for reaching defined milestones. Option C is incorrect because payroll bonus calculation is an HR/finance function, not part of community gamification or reputation management. Option D is incorrect because changing the core database engine to InnoDB is a database administration task unrelated to gamification configuration.

Answer

Writing custom business rules to calculate payroll bonuses

Answer

Changing core database engine settings to InnoDB
