DP-900 Describe core data concepts Practice Test 12 — 15 Questions

Question 1

A company uses Azure SQL Database and wants to implement row-level security so that sales managers can only see data for their own region. Which feature should they use?

Accepted Answer

Row-level security (RLS). Row-level security (RLS) is the correct feature because it allows you to control access to rows in a database table based on the characteristics of the user executing a query. In this scenario, RLS can be implemented using a security policy and a predicate function that filters rows based on the sales manager's region, ensuring they only see data for their own region.

Azure RBAC

Question 5

Which TWO of the following are correct descriptions of data processing workloads in Azure?

Accepted Answer

Streaming processing is used to process data in real time as it arrives.. Streaming processing in Azure (e.g., Azure Stream Analytics, Event Hubs, or Kafka on HDInsight) is designed to ingest, analyze, and act on data in near real-time as it arrives, often with sub-second latency. This is fundamentally different from batch processing, which handles data at rest.

Answer

Streaming processing is used for interactive queries on historical data.

Answer

Streaming processing is used to process data at rest.

Answer

Batch processing is used to process data in real time as it arrives.

Question 6

Which THREE of the following are characteristics of a data lake compared to a data warehouse?

Accepted Answer

Data lakes store data in its native or raw format.. A data lake stores data in its native or raw format, meaning it does not require transformation or schema definition at the time of ingestion. This allows organizations to retain the original fidelity of the data, which is a fundamental distinction from a data warehouse that typically transforms and structures data before loading (ETL). In Azure, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) Gen2 supports storing any file format (e.g., Parquet, CSV, JSON, binary) without preprocessing.

Answer

Data lakes guarantee ACID transactions across all data.

Answer

Data lakes store only structured data.

Question 7

Which TWO of the following are valid Azure data storage services for storing unstructured data?

Accepted Answer

Azure Blob Storage. Azure Blob Storage (C) is correct because it is Microsoft's core object storage service designed specifically for massive amounts of unstructured data such as text, binary, images, video, and backups, accessible via REST/HTTPS and the Blob SDK. Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (D) is correct because it is built on Blob Storage with a hierarchical namespace enabled, purpose-built for storing and analyzing unstructured and semi-structured big data (e.g., logs, JSON, Parquet) at scale. Azure SQL Database (A) is a relational PaaS engine that stores structured data in tables with a fixed schema, so it is not intended for unstructured data. Azure Table Storage (B) is a NoSQL key-attribute store for structured, schema-less tabular data, not for unstructured blobs. Azure Cosmos DB (E) is a globally distributed multi-model database for structured/semi-structured JSON documents, key-value, graph, and column-family data, not a general unstructured object store.

Answer

Azure SQL Database

Answer

Azure Table Storage

Answer

Azure Cosmos DB

Question 8

You are reviewing an ARM template for an Azure Storage account. The container named 'data' is created with public access set to 'None'. What is the primary benefit of this configuration?

Accepted Answer

It restricts access to authorized users only.. Setting public access to 'None' on a container means that anonymous read requests are not allowed. The primary benefit is that only requests with proper authorization (e.g., using an account key, a shared access signature, or Microsoft Entra ID credentials) can access the blobs within that container. This directly restricts access to authorized users only, which is the core security advantage.

Answer

It encrypts data at rest.

Answer

It enables soft delete for the container.

Answer

It prevents accidental deletion of blobs.

Question 9

The exhibit shows a SQL query run against Azure SQL Database. What is the purpose of the HAVING clause in this query?

Accepted Answer

To filter groups based on aggregate conditions. The HAVING clause in SQL is used to filter groups after the GROUP BY clause has been applied, based on aggregate conditions such as SUM, COUNT, or AVG. In this query against Azure SQL Database, HAVING restricts the result to only those groups that satisfy the specified aggregate condition, which cannot be done with a WHERE clause because WHERE filters individual rows before grouping.

Answer

To filter rows before grouping

Answer

To sort the result set

Answer

To join two tables

Question 10

The exhibit shows a Kusto Query Language (KQL) query run in Azure Data Explorer. What is the output of this query?

Accepted Answer

The top 5 event types in Texas by total property damage. The query uses `summarize sum(PropertyDamage) by EventType` to aggregate total property damage per event type, then `top 5 by TotalPropertyDamage` to return the five event types with the highest totals. The `where State == 'TEXAS'` filter ensures only Texas storms are considered. This directly yields the top 5 event types in Texas by total property damage.

Answer

All storm events in Texas with property damage

Answer

The total property damage for all event types in Texas

Answer

A list of the top 5 property damage amounts in Texas

Question 11

A company stores customer transaction data in Azure Blob Storage. The data is rarely accessed after 30 days, but must be retained for 7 years for compliance. Which access tier minimizes storage cost while meeting the retention requirement?

Accepted Answer

Archive tier. The Archive tier is the correct choice because it offers the lowest storage cost for data that is rarely accessed, which aligns with the scenario where data is accessed infrequently after 30 days but must be retained for 7 years. Azure Blob Storage's Archive tier is designed for long-term retention with a retrieval latency of several hours, making it cost-effective for compliance-driven data that does not require immediate access.
