SAUTO Cloud Web And Email Security Automation Practice Test 4 — 15 Questions

Question 1

When integrating Cisco Umbrella with a SOAR platform, what is the best practice for handling API rate limits?

Accepted Answer

Implement exponential backoff. Exponential backoff is the standard best practice for handling API rate limits because it dynamically adjusts the request rate in response to 429 (Too Many Requests) responses. When a rate limit is hit, the client waits for an increasing amount of time before retrying, which prevents overwhelming the API and allows the limit to reset. This approach is recommended by Cisco Umbrella's API documentation and is a fundamental principle in resilient API integration, ensuring reliable data exchange without causing service disruptions.

Answer

Use a single API key for all threads

Answer

Send all requests simultaneously

Answer

Ignore the 429 status code

Question 2

You are automating the blocking of a specific URL on a Cisco WSA. You have verified the API reachability, but the rule is not being applied. What is the most common reason?

Accepted Answer

The configuration change was not committed. On Cisco WSA, API-driven configuration changes are staged and do not take effect until a commit is performed. If the API call succeeds but the change is not committed, the rule will not be applied to live traffic — this is the most common reason for 'API reachable but rule not applied' scenarios.

Answer

The URL is already in the global whitelist

Answer

The WSA needs a reboot

Answer

The API user does not have 'Admin' privileges

Question 3

You are using the Cisco Cloudlock API to retrieve a list of users. The API returns an 'error: 403 Forbidden'. What is the most likely cause?

Accepted Answer

The API token lacks the required permissions. A 403 Forbidden response from the Cisco Cloudlock API indicates that the request was authenticated but the token or credentials used do not have the necessary permissions/scope to access the requested resource (the user list). Unlike 401 Unauthorized, which signals missing or invalid authentication, 403 specifically means the server understood the request but refuses to authorize it. Therefore, the most likely cause is that the API token lacks the required permissions.

Answer

The URL is incorrect

Answer

The user list is empty

Answer

The API is down for maintenance

Question 4

What is the primary function of the Cisco Secure Email API 'Message Tracking' interface?

Accepted Answer

Searching and retrieving email metadata. The Cisco Secure Email API 'Message Tracking' interface is designed to provide visibility into email flow by allowing administrators to search for and retrieve metadata about messages processed by the email security appliance. This includes details such as sender, recipient, subject, timestamp, and delivery status, which are essential for troubleshooting and auditing. It does not perform configuration or management functions like setting SMTP relays or creating mailboxes.

Answer

Configuring SMTP relay settings

Answer

Creating user mailboxes

Answer

Updating system firmware

Question 5

When using the Umbrella API to create a new 'Domain' block rule, you need to specify the 'type'. Which of the following is a valid type?

Accepted Answer

domain. In the Umbrella API, when creating a block rule for a domain, the 'type' field must be set to 'domain'. This indicates that the rule applies to a specific domain name, such as 'example.com'. Other types like 'url' or 'ip_address' are not valid for domain-based rules; they would be used for different rule categories. The 'category' type is used for content category rules, not for individual domain blocks.

Answer

url

Answer

category

Answer

ip_address

Question 6

Which component in the Cisco security portfolio is most effectively automated using the 'AsyncOS' Reporting API?

Accepted Answer

Secure Email Gateway. AsyncOS is the operating system used by Cisco Secure Email Gateway (formerly Email Security Appliance), and its Reporting API is specifically designed to extract reporting and message-tracking data from that platform. Therefore, the Secure Email Gateway is the component most effectively automated via the AsyncOS Reporting API.

Answer

Cisco Duo

Answer

Cisco ISE

Answer

Cisco Meraki

Question 7

Which TWO of the following are key features of the Cisco Cloudlock API?

Accepted Answer

Incident retrieval. Option A (Incident retrieval) is correct because the Cisco Cloudlock API exposes REST endpoints that let security teams programmatically pull incident data—such as policy violations and DLP events—from the Cloudlock platform for SIEM/SOAR ingestion and automated response. Option E (OAuth application auditing) is correct because Cloudlock's core CASB capability includes discovering and auditing third-party OAuth applications connected to SaaS tenants (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365), and the API surfaces this app-risk and permission data for review. The remaining options do not belong: firmware deployment (B) is a network-device management function, hardware firewall rule management (C) is performed on firewalls like Cisco Secure Firewall/ASA rather than a cloud CASB API, and Layer 2 packet inspection (D) is a network-layer function, whereas Cloudlock is an API-based cloud security service that inspects SaaS data and activity, not raw frames.

Answer

Firmware deployment

Answer

Hardware firewall rule management

Answer

Packet inspection at Layer 2

Question 8

You are automating the deletion of an old Umbrella API key. Why is it important to ensure that no active scripts are using this key before deletion?

Accepted Answer

The script will lose access immediately. Deleting an Umbrella API key immediately invalidates it, so any script still using that key will lose access and begin receiving authentication failures (401/403). Ensuring no active scripts depend on the key prevents automation outages, such as failed policy updates or broken reporting pipelines.

Answer

The Umbrella dashboard will crash

Answer

The firewall will block all future traffic

Answer

The API logs will become unreadable

Question 9

When interacting with the Cisco WSA API, you want to retrieve the 'System Status'. What does the 'uptime' field in the JSON response represent?

Accepted Answer

Time elapsed since the last restart. In the Cisco WSA API, the 'uptime' field in the System Status response represents the amount of time that has elapsed since the last restart of the appliance or service. It is a common metric in system status APIs to indicate how long the system has been running continuously. Therefore, the correct answer is time elapsed since the last restart.

Answer

Time elapsed since the last log upload

Answer

Time elapsed since the last API call

Answer

Time elapsed since the last configuration change

Question 10

Which of the following is a key requirement for using the Cisco Umbrella API successfully?

Accepted Answer

API Key and Secret generated in the dashboard. The Cisco Umbrella API requires an API Key and Secret generated from the Umbrella dashboard to authenticate requests. These credentials are used to obtain tokens for programmatic access to Umbrella's reporting, enforcement, and management endpoints. Without them, API calls cannot be authenticated.

Answer

Root access to the DNS server

Answer

A valid SNMP community string

Answer

A physical connection to the Cisco cloud data center

Question 11

You are writing a script to monitor 'Cloudlock' alerts. Which API endpoint provides the most relevant data for SOC integration?

Accepted Answer

Incidents endpoint. The Incidents endpoint is the correct choice because Cloudlock incidents represent actual policy violations and security events, which is exactly the data a SOC needs for triage and response. Alerts generated by Cloudlock policies surface as incidents, making this endpoint the primary integration point for SIEM/SOAR platforms.

Answer

Policies endpoint

Answer

Users endpoint

Answer

App Firewall endpoint

Question 12

Which THREE of the following are true about the Cisco Umbrella API?

Accepted Answer

It requires an API Key and Secret. Option A is correct because the Cisco Umbrella API authenticates requests using an API Key and Secret, which are generated in the Umbrella dashboard and used to obtain an OAuth 2.0 token for API calls. Option B is correct because the Umbrella API follows REST principles, using standard HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) and JSON-formatted requests and responses over HTTPS. Option E is correct because the Umbrella API provides both management capabilities (such as configuring policies, networks, and identities) and reporting capabilities (such as retrieving security activity and traffic reports). Option C is incorrect because the Umbrella API is available across multiple Umbrella packages and account types, not exclusively Enterprise accounts. Option D is incorrect because the Umbrella API is REST-based, not SOAP-based.

Answer

It is only available for Enterprise accounts

Answer

It is SOAP-based

Question 13

Which THREE of the following are common challenges when automating Cisco Security appliance APIs?

Accepted Answer

Managing authentication token expiration. Option A is correct because Cisco Security appliance APIs (e.g., Firepower Management Center, Cisco Secure Firewall, ISE) typically issue time-limited authentication tokens or session IDs that expire, so automation scripts must detect expiration and re-authenticate to avoid 401 Unauthorized errors. Option B is correct because platforms such as FMC and Cisco Defense Orchestrator use a staged configuration model where API calls modify a pending configuration that must be explicitly committed/deployed (e.g., POST to /api/fmc_config/v1/domain/{id}/deployment/deployabledevices or a commit endpoint); forgetting this leaves changes unapplied. Option E is correct because Cisco Security APIs enforce rate limits (e.g., FMC's 120 requests per minute per user, or ISE's throttling), and automation that ignores 429 Too Many Requests responses or lacks backoff/retry logic will fail or be throttled. Option C is not relevant because these are programmatic REST APIs consumed by scripts, not browser-rendered interfaces, so browser compatibility does not apply. Option D is not a challenge specific to automating Cisco Security appliance APIs; lack of network connectivity is a generic infrastructure issue, not an API automation challenge inherent to these appliances.

Answer

Browser compatibility

Answer

Lack of network connectivity

Question 14

Which THREE of the following are parameters that can be used to filter Cisco Secure Email Gateway reports via the Reporting API?

Accepted Answer

recipient. The Cisco Secure Email Gateway Reporting API accepts query parameters that scope report data by message attributes and time window, so option A (recipient) is correct because it filters report results to messages delivered to a specific recipient address. Option B (end_date) is correct because it defines the upper bound of the reporting time range, limiting results to events occurring on or before that date. Option E (start_date) is correct because it sets the lower bound of the reporting time range, so only events on or after that date are returned. Options C (fan_speed) and D (hardware_version) are not Reporting API filter parameters; they relate to physical appliance telemetry and system inventory data, not email message reporting queries.

Answer

fan_speed

Answer

hardware_version

Question 15

Which THREE of the following are examples of SaaS security posture automation tasks you can perform with the Cloudlock API?

Accepted Answer

Revoking third-party OAuth tokens. Option A is correct because the Cloudlock (Cisco Cloudlock) API exposes endpoints for investigating and revoking risky third-party OAuth applications and their tokens granted by SaaS users, which is a core SaaS security posture automation task. Option B is correct because Cloudlock's CASB capabilities include scanning SaaS collaboration platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365) to audit file sharing permissions and exposure, and these findings are retrievable and actionable via the API. Option E is correct because the Cloudlock API allows programmatic creation and management of policy and threat detection triggers that alert on or remediate risky SaaS activity. Option C is not correct because updating system firmware is an endpoint/hardware management task, not something a SaaS CASB API performs. Option D is not correct because configuring SMTP routing is a mail-transport/infrastructure configuration task outside Cloudlock's SaaS security posture scope.

Answer

Updating system firmware

Answer

Configuring SMTP routing
