UiPath-ADPv1 Advanced UI Automation — All Questions With Answers

Question 1

Which property in the 'Click' activity should be adjusted if the robot is clicking too quickly for a web application to process the request?

Accepted Answer

DelayAfter. DelayBefore adds a pause *before* the activity performs its action (the click). If the robot is clicking too quickly for the application to process the *result* of the click (e.g., the page is not responding to the click fast enough), DelayAfter is the correct property to use. DelayBefore is used when the UI element itself is not ready to be interacted with.

Answer

DelayBefore

Answer

TimeoutMS

Answer

SimulateClick

Question 2

When automating a data-heavy grid, what is the best strategy to scrape all rows without triggering an infinite scroll issue?

Accepted Answer

Use the Data Scraping wizard with a configured 'Next' button.. UiPath has replaced the 'Data Scraping' wizard with 'Table Extraction'. While the logic remains valid, the terminology is outdated for the current UiPath ADPV1 exam.

Answer

Manually press the 'Page Down' key in a loop.

Answer

Hardcode an array of all possible row selectors.

Answer

Take a screenshot of the grid and use OCR to read data.

Question 3

An automation developer needs to interact with a complex web application where standard input activities fail to trigger custom JavaScript event listeners bound to form fields. Which activity and input method combination should the developer use to ensure reliable data entry without relying on standard window messages?

Accepted Answer

Use the Type Into activity with the SimulateType property enabled along with a targeted container.. Using the Type Into activity with the SimulateType property enabled interacts directly through the browser API by firing native JavaScript events. This bypasses the operating system's hardware driver layer, making it extremely reliable for modern web applications that utilize custom event listeners or framework bindings, whereas window messages or hardware events might be intercepted or ignored by the application runtime.

Answer

Configure the SendHotkey activity using the SendWindowMessages input method for enhanced execution speed.

Answer

Implement the Type Into activity with the HardwareEvents input method to mimic genuine user keystrokes.

Answer

Utilize the Click activity configured with SendWindowMessages to dispatch low-level messages directly to the control.

Question 4

An automation requires interacting with a dynamic web application where UI elements frequently change their IDs, causing standard selectors to fail. Which approach provides the highest resilience for element identification in this scenario?

Accepted Answer

Implement Anchor Base activities or the Unified Target engine to link unstable elements with stable neighboring static text components.. Using Anchor Base or Unified Target (UI Automation Next) methods allows the robot to locate elements relative to stable nearby anchors like labels. This decoupling from volatile ID attributes ensures robust execution despite layout shifts. Mastering these dynamic selection strategies is critical for UiPath developers as it directly minimizes maintenance overhead and reduces the frequency of 'Element Not Found' exceptions in production environments.

Answer

Increase the 'TimeoutMS' property to allow more time for the dynamic IDs to stabilize before the robot attempts the click action.

Answer

Use an Image-based automation approach exclusively to bypass all DOM-related selector issues caused by fluctuating dynamic element IDs.

Answer

Apply wildcard characters in every attribute of the selector to ensure the robot eventually finds a match regardless of the ID structure.

Question 5

Refer to the exhibit. You are automating a table where multiple rows share the same structure. How should you modify the selector to target the specific row required by the business logic?

Accepted Answer

Inject a variable into the 'idx' attribute or a specific attribute value within the selector to target the row index dynamically.. While using 'idx' is technically possible, it is considered a poor practice in UiPath because it is fragile and prone to breaking if the table order changes. The recommended approach is to use dynamic selectors based on unique data attributes (like an ID or text content) rather than the 'idx' attribute.

Answer

Use the 'Find Children' activity to return all matches into an enumerable collection and iterate through them using a For Each loop.

Answer

Decrease the 'WaitForReady' property to 'None' to force the robot to click the first element it encounters immediately.

Answer

Enable the 'Simulate Click' property to ignore the selector ambiguity and interact with the element coordinate based on the screen.

Question 6

You are automating a SAP GUI transaction in UiPath Studio. After a user presses Enter, the SAP status bar briefly shows a 'processing' message and then the same screen updates in place with new field values, without opening a new window or changing the window title. Standard UI Automation activities intermittently read the previous values because the automation continues before SAP has finished updating the controls. Which approach best ensures the automation waits for the SAP screen to finish updating before reading the new values?

Accepted Answer

Enable 'Active Accessibility' in UI Automation and use the 'Get Attribute' activity in a 'While' loop to poll the 'enabled' attribute of the target field until it becomes True, then read the field values.. The reliable pattern for in-place SAP screen updates is to observe a concrete UI attribute that changes when processing completes. Polling the target field's enabled or readonly attribute with Get Attribute inside a While loop ties the workflow to the application's real state, eliminating the race between the Enter keystroke and the control refresh. Fixed delays and visibility checks on already-visible elements cannot confirm that the new values are present.

Answer

Use the 'On Element Appear' activity on the SAP status bar element with the 'WaitVisible' property set to True, then read the field values.

Answer

Use 'Delay' with a fixed duration of 2000 milliseconds immediately after sending the Enter key, then read the field values.

Answer

Use the 'Check App State' activity targeting the SAP status bar with the 'Wait for element to appear' branch configured to detect the processing message, then add a 'Wait for element to disappear' branch for the same message before reading fields.

Question 7

You are automating a Windows desktop application that renders its user interface using custom-drawn graphics, so the UiPath UI Automation activities cannot see any individual controls. You need to reliably click a button whose position is fixed relative to the application window. Which UiPath feature should you use to perform the click?

Accepted Answer

Use the Click activity with the 'Computer Vision' targeting method. Computer Vision is designed for scenarios where traditional UI Automation fails, such as custom-drawn or remote desktop applications. It analyzes the screen visually and can identify elements based on their appearance and spatial context, allowing reliable interaction even without accessibility support. The other targeting methods depend on APIs that are unavailable in this case.

Answer

Use the Click activity with the 'Native' targeting method

Answer

Use the Click activity with the 'AA' targeting method

Answer

Use the Click activity with the 'Image' targeting method

Question 8

You are automating a WPF desktop application that renders a data grid. The grid's rows expose no reliable AutomationId, and the column headers are localized at runtime. Indicate which UiPath feature is most appropriate to reliably target a specific cell value by its column header text rather than by index.

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Find Children' activity with a filter on the header element, then use the resulting index to locate the corresponding cell in each row.. The scenario requires mapping a localized column header to a cell position at runtime. Find Children can enumerate headers in visual order, match the runtime text, and yield the index used to locate the corresponding cell in each row. This avoids brittle coordinate clicks and unstable strict selectors that depend on localized display strings or fixed indexes.

Answer

Record the cell using the 'Click' activity in hardware events mode and rely on the recorded coordinates.

Answer

Use the UI Explorer to build a strict selector that includes the column header's displayed text as a matching attribute.

Answer

Enable the 'Fuzzy selector' and configure it with a low accuracy threshold that matches the header text partially.

Question 9

A developer is building a workflow that must interact with a web application where the target element is inside a nested iframe and its attributes are partially dynamic. The developer wants to create a selector that is resilient to layout changes and can target the element reliably. Which approach best meets these requirements?

Accepted Answer

Use the Indicate on Screen feature to capture the element, then in the Selector Editor add the iframe tags and use the 'aaname' attribute with a wildcard for the dynamic part.. The correct approach is to use Indicate on Screen to capture the element, then edit the selector in the Selector Editor to include the iframe hierarchy and use a stable attribute with a wildcard for the dynamic part. This ensures the selector can traverse nested iframes and remains resilient to attribute changes, while avoiding overly broad wildcards that could match multiple elements.

Answer

Use a CSS selector that targets the element by its class, and rely on the browser's native querySelector to find it without iframe handling.

Answer

Use the Find Children activity with a filter on the element's dynamic attribute, and then click the first result without modifying the selector.

Answer

Use the UiPath Explorer to capture the element, then edit the selector to include the full iframe hierarchy and replace dynamic attributes with wildcards.

Question 10

You are automating a web application that uses dynamic CSS classes and IDs that change on every page load. You have created a selector that worked during development but now fails randomly in production. Which UiPath feature should you use to make the selector more resilient?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Fuzzy Selector' option in the Selector Editor. Fuzzy Selector is designed to handle dynamic attributes by allowing partial matches and scoring similarity. It reduces the impact of changing IDs or classes, making the automation more reliable in production. Other options either do not address the root cause or introduce stricter matching that exacerbates the problem.

Answer

Use the 'Strict Selector' option in the Selector Editor

Answer

Use the 'Anchor Base' activity to locate the element relative to a stable anchor

Answer

Use wildcards (*) in the selector for the dynamic attributes

Question 11

A developer is using the Modern Design experience in UiPath Studio to automate a desktop application. The developer needs to configure the Click activity to wait for a specific element to become enabled before clicking, and to continue if the element does not appear within a timeout. Which configuration should the developer apply?

Accepted Answer

Set the Click activity's 'WaitForReady' property to 'Interactive' and the 'Timeout' property to 5000 milliseconds.. The Click activity's 'WaitForReady' property set to 'Interactive' makes the activity wait until the target element is enabled and ready for interaction, and the 'Timeout' property defines how long to wait before failing. This directly satisfies the requirement to wait for the element to become enabled and to handle a timeout, without additional activities or static delays.

Answer

Use a 'Retry Scope' activity with a condition that checks if the element is enabled, and set the retry interval to 5 seconds.

Answer

Set the Click activity's 'DelayAfter' property to 5000 milliseconds and 'DelayBefore' to 2000 milliseconds.

Answer

Use the 'Check App State' activity to verify the element is enabled, then place the Click activity inside the 'Target appears' branch.

Question 12

You are automating a Windows desktop application that renders its interface using Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) but exposes no UIAutomation providers. Standard UiPath UI Automation activities using the default UIA framework fail to detect the controls. Which approach should you take to reliably interact with these elements?

Accepted Answer

Change the project's UI Automation framework to 'AA' (Active Accessibility) in Project Settings, then re-indicate the elements.. When a desktop application exposes controls only through Microsoft Active Accessibility, the UIAutomation framework cannot see them. UiPath allows the project-level UI Automation framework to be changed to Active Accessibility, after which re-indicated selectors target the MSAA tree. This is the intended, low-overhead solution and avoids the licensing and accuracy trade-offs of Computer Vision or the futility of timing tweaks.

Answer

Enable the 'Active Accessibility' compatibility mode in the UiPath.UIAutomation.Activities package by setting the UseLegacyIAccessible property to True on each activity.

Answer

Switch all UI Automation activities to use the 'Default' framework and increase the DelayBefore and DelayAfter properties to give the MSAA bridge time to respond.

Answer

Replace the UI Automation activities with Computer Vision activities, because CV can read any on-screen control regardless of its accessibility provider.

Question 13

You are automating a process that interacts with a web application where some actions trigger JavaScript events that standard Click activities do not activate. You need to ensure that the JavaScript event is fired when clicking a button. Which UiPath activity should you use?

Accepted Answer

Click activity with the 'HardwareEvents' property set to True. HardwareEvents performs a click at the hardware level, mimicking a real user action. This ensures that JavaScript event listeners are triggered, which is essential for web applications that rely on client-side scripting. Other methods may be faster but do not guarantee that the browser will process the event as a user interaction.

Answer

Click activity with the 'SendWindowMessages' property set to True

Answer

Use the 'Inject JS Script' activity to call the button's click() method

Answer

Click activity with the 'SimulateClick' property set to True

Question 14

You are automating a Java Swing application whose table cells are exposed as accessible objects, but the standard UiPath UI Automation activities return empty text for those cells. The Java extension is installed and the accessibility bridge is active. Which UiPath configuration should you verify or enable to read the cell text?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Get Attribute' activity on the cell element and select the 'Text' or 'Name' attribute to retrieve the value.. The Get Attribute activity is the right choice because Java Swing accessible objects often expose cell values as attributes such as Text or Name rather than through the default text pattern. When Get Text returns empty, reading the specific attribute retrieves the value reliably. There is no Java selector type, no Java accessibility mode setting, and no separate Java activities package, so those options do not address the scenario.

Answer

Set the UiPath UI Automation activity's 'Target' to use the 'Java' selector type and enable the 'Get Text' property on the activity.

Answer

Enable the 'Java' accessibility mode in the UiPath Java extension settings and restart the target application.

Answer

Replace the UI Automation activities with the UiPath 'Java' activities package and use the 'Java Get Text' activity on the cell.

Question 15

You are designing a UI automation that must interact with a web application accessed via Citrix. Standard UI Automation activities cannot detect any elements. Which two UiPath approaches are appropriate to enable interaction with the application? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Image' targeting method with the Click and Type Into activities. In Citrix environments, standard UI Automation fails because the remote session does not expose individual controls. Computer Vision and Image targeting are the recommended approaches because they work based on visual recognition, allowing interaction with the application despite the lack of accessibility support. These methods enable reliable automation in virtualized desktops.

Answer

Use the 'Inject JS Script' activity to manipulate the web application directly

Answer

Use the 'Native' targeting method with the Click activity

Answer

Use the 'Citrix Automation' activities from the UiPath.Citrix.Activities package

Question 16

You are automating a legacy desktop application where the UI elements do not support standard selectors. Which approach provides the most robust automation while maintaining high execution speed?

Accepted Answer

Use the Image automation activity with a stable anchor for the target.. Image-based automation is the standard fallback for legacy applications lacking accessibility frameworks. By combining Image anchors with relative positioning, you ensure the robot can locate target elements even if the window layout shifts slightly. This approach is critical for legacy systems where traditional selectors are unavailable, as it relies on visual patterns rather than underlying DOM structure, ensuring stability in non-standard UI environments.

Answer

Use full-screen OCR for every single element interaction.

Answer

Automate the entire process using only mouse click coordinates.

Answer

Force the application to run in a web-browser emulation mode.

Question 17

Which activity is best suited for typing secure passwords into a field that does not support standard text input methods?

Accepted Answer

Type Secure Text activity with a SecureString variable.. The 'Type Secure Text' activity is specifically designed to handle SecureString objects, which are encrypted in memory. This is critical for security compliance in enterprise environments, as it prevents credentials from being exposed in plain text logs or memory dumps. Using this activity ensures that sensitive information is handled according to security best practices throughout the automation execution lifecycle.

Answer

Type Into activity using a standard String variable.

Answer

Set Text activity configured with a hidden variable.

Answer

Simulate Click followed by Send Hotkey.

Question 18

When automating a web application, you notice the selectors are extremely unstable due to dynamically generated IDs. What is the most effective way to improve selector reliability?

Accepted Answer

Use UI Explorer to find static attributes or tag hierarchies.. Using UI Explorer to identify reliable, non-dynamic attributes like 'aaname', 'innertext', or custom 'data-id' attributes is the most effective way to stabilize selectors. This is important because relying on auto-generated IDs usually leads to automation failure after application deployments. By creating a robust selector based on static visual or structural properties, developers ensure long-term stability and reduce the need for frequent maintenance as the web application evolves.

Answer

Use the Repair button in the Selector Editor every time it fails.

Answer

Switch all automation to use relative Image-based selectors.

Answer

Hardcode the element path using absolute Index attributes.

Question 19

Which THREE of the following practices are recommended for optimizing UI automation performance in large-scale enterprise environments?

Accepted Answer

Use 'Simulate Click' or 'SendWindowMessages' when possible.. Optimizing UI automation requires a combination of efficient selector design, intelligent waiting strategies, and minimizing unnecessary interactions. These practices are crucial because inefficient automation consumes excessive hardware resources and leads to longer runtimes. By focusing on targeted selectors and avoiding redundant screen actions, developers ensure that their robots are performant, scalable, and capable of handling high-volume workloads without placing undue strain on the underlying infrastructure.

Answer

Always set DelayAfter property to 5 seconds to ensure stability.

Answer

Keep the selector tree as deep as possible for uniqueness.

Question 20

When using the 'Check App State' activity, which state configuration is most appropriate to ensure the application has successfully logged out before proceeding?

Accepted Answer

Set state to 'Target Disappears' for the dashboard menu.. The 'Check App State' activity is designed to verify the presence or absence of UI elements. To confirm a logout, checking for the existence of a 'Login' button or the absence of a 'Dashboard' element is the most reliable method. This ensures that the robot correctly validates the application's state transition, preventing premature actions that could lead to data corruption or authentication errors during the next process iteration.

Answer

Set state to 'Target Appears' for the user profile icon.

Answer

Use a fixed delay of 10 seconds to wait for the session.

Answer

Set state to 'Target Appears' for the main application window.
