UiPath-ADPv1 Advanced Debugging — 15 Questions

Question 1

Refer to the exhibit. The ID attribute changes every time the page loads. How can you fix this selector to make it stable?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'dynamic_*' wildcard in the ID attribute field.. The explanation correctly identifies that using UI Explorer to find stable attributes is the best practice, but Option B suggests using a wildcard on the ID attribute, which is a specific technique for dynamic selectors. The explanation should focus on why wildcards are the correct solution for the specific problem of a dynamic ID, rather than suggesting UI Explorer as the primary fix for the wildcard option.

Answer

Hardcode the current ID in the selector editor.

Answer

Use 'Find Children' activity to loop through all inputs until a match is found.

Answer

Increase the 'Timeout' to 100 seconds.

Question 2

You are experiencing a memory leak in a long-running process that processes thousands of PDF files. What is the most effective debugging strategy to identify the leak?

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Memory Profiler' to monitor object disposal patterns during execution.. UiPath does not have a built-in 'Memory Profiler' tool. The correct approach for debugging memory leaks in UiPath involves using external tools like dotMemory, Visual Studio Profiler, or analyzing memory dumps (e.g., via WinDbg) to identify unmanaged resource leaks or object retention issues.

Answer

Restart the robot service every 100 files.

Answer

Increase the virtual memory on the server.

Answer

Add a 'Delay' activity of 2 seconds after each file processing.

Question 3

Which debugging feature is specifically designed to allow you to change the value of a variable during an active debugging session without restarting the process?

Accepted Answer

The Immediate panel.. The Immediate panel in UiPath Studio is specifically designed for evaluating expressions and modifying variable values during a debugging pause without having to restart the process. The explanation and trap notes incorrectly focus on the Watch panel.

Answer

The Locals panel.

Answer

The Breakpoints panel.

Answer

The Output panel.

Question 4

While debugging, you find that a global variable is being modified unexpectedly. Which tool allows you to track the value changes of this specific variable whenever it is accessed or updated?

Accepted Answer

The Watch panel.. The Watch panel allows you to view the value of a variable only when the execution is paused at a breakpoint. It does not provide a 'track changes' feature that logs or alerts you whenever a variable is accessed or updated during runtime. UiPath does not have a native 'data breakpoint' or 'watchpoint' feature that triggers a pause specifically when a variable's value changes.

Answer

The Breakpoints panel.

Answer

The Call Stack panel.

Answer

The Project panel.

Question 5

You are debugging a UiPath automation that processes invoices. The workflow contains a Try Catch activity, and inside the Try block a BusinessRuleException is thrown. You set a breakpoint on the Catch block but also want to inspect the exception details without modifying the workflow. Which debugging feature allows you to view the exception message and stack trace while execution is paused at the breakpoint?

Accepted Answer

The Locals panel's Exception section. When debugging in UiPath Studio, the Locals panel automatically shows the current exception when execution is paused inside a Catch block. This includes the exception message, stack trace, and inner exceptions if any. This feature provides immediate insight into what went wrong without requiring code changes or manual expression evaluation. Other panels like Watch or Immediate require manual setup to display similar information.

Answer

The Immediate panel

Answer

The Watch panel

Answer

The Locals panel

Question 6

You are debugging a UiPath automation that uses a State Machine. The process transitions between states based on conditions, but during debugging you notice that a transition is not being triggered even though the condition evaluates to true. You have verified the condition logic in isolation. Which debugging approach is most effective to identify why the transition is not occurring?

Accepted Answer

Use the Step Into feature to step through the state machine's execution and observe the transition evaluation.. Stepping into the state machine execution allows you to observe the evaluation of transitions in real time. You can see whether the condition is checked and why it might not trigger the transition. This direct observation is more effective than logging or breakpoints because it reveals the internal flow of the state machine. Other options either only confirm the condition or are unrelated to state machine debugging.

Answer

Add a Write Line activity before the transition to log the condition's value.

Answer

Enable the 'Highlight Elements' option to visually track the active state during debugging.

Answer

Set a breakpoint on the condition expression and inspect the variable values in the Locals panel.

Question 7

You are debugging a UiPath workflow and need to execute a specific sequence of activities repeatedly to test a fix. You want to avoid running the entire workflow from the beginning each time. Which debugging feature allows you to run only a selected portion of the workflow?

Accepted Answer

Test Activity. UiPath Studio's 'Test Activity' feature enables developers to execute a specific activity or sequence in isolation. By right-clicking the desired activity and selecting 'Test Activity', you can run just that portion, which is perfect for iterative testing of a fix without running the entire workflow. This speeds up the debug cycle and isolates the tested logic.

Question 8

You are debugging a UiPath automation that intermittently fails when interacting with a web application. The error message is 'Element not found' for a button that appears after a page reload. You have already verified that the selector is correct. Which TWO debugging techniques should you use to diagnose the root cause? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Step Into' debugging action to execute activities one by one and observe the UI state.. Highlight Elements and Step Into are both diagnostic techniques that provide real-time visibility into UI interactions. Highlight Elements confirms whether the selector matches the intended element during execution, while Step Into allows you to pause and observe the application state at each step. Together, they help determine if the 'Element not found' error is due to timing, incorrect element, or dynamic content changes during page reload.

Answer

Set the 'ExecutionMode' to 'Parallel' in the project settings to speed up execution and reduce timing issues.

Answer

Add a 'Delay' activity of 5 seconds before the button click to ensure the page has loaded.

Answer

Use the 'Immediate' panel to execute a custom expression that checks for the element's existence.

Question 9

You are debugging a UiPath automation that intermittently fails with a 'UI Element Not Found' error on a dynamic web page. The selector uses a wildcard for the table row index, but the element sometimes appears after a delay. You need to identify the root cause and ensure the automation waits appropriately. (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Highlight Elements' feature in UiPath Explorer to verify the selector matches the correct element on the page.. Highlight Elements verifies that the selector correctly identifies the intended element, which is crucial when dealing with dynamic pages and wildcards. Element Exists with a timeout provides a dynamic wait, ensuring the element is present before interaction. Together, they diagnose selector accuracy and handle timing, resolving intermittent 'UI Element Not Found' errors. Fixed delays or selector changes alone do not reliably solve the problem.

Answer

Increase the 'Delay After' property of the Click activity to 5000 milliseconds to ensure the element is loaded.

Answer

Enable 'Simulate Click' on the Click activity to bypass the need for the element to be visible.

Answer

Change the selector to use a full XPath instead of a wildcard to make it more specific.

Question 10

A UiPath process reads a DataTable of invoices, and during debugging you notice that after processing the third row the loop exits early even though 40 rows remain. The For Each Row activity uses a variable named currentRow that is also referenced inside an invoked workflow. Which debugging action best identifies why the iteration terminates prematurely?

Accepted Answer

Use Step Into on the Invoke Workflow File activity and watch the Locals panel to see whether the invoked workflow reassigns the loop's controlling variable.. Stepping into the invoked workflow with Step Into lets you watch the Locals panel as the child workflow executes, exposing any assignment to a variable that the parent loop relies on. When a shared variable such as the loop's controlling reference is mutated across an Invoke Workflow File boundary, this is the only interactive technique that pinpoints the exact assignment responsible for the early exit.

Answer

Change the For Each Row activity to a While loop with an explicit counter and re-run the process from the beginning.

Answer

Add a Write Line activity after the loop and log the DataTable's row count to confirm the loop finished normally.

Answer

Open the Locals panel while paused at the loop's Body, expand the DataTable variable, and inspect its Rows.Count and the current index.

Question 11

You are debugging a UiPath automation that uses the 'Invoke Workflow File' activity to call a child workflow. The child workflow throws an exception, but the exception is caught and handled in the parent workflow. You need to inspect the variable values in the child workflow at the moment the exception occurred. What is the most effective way to achieve this?

Accepted Answer

Set a breakpoint in the child workflow at the activity that throws the exception. The most direct way to inspect child workflow variables at the moment of an exception is to set a breakpoint at the activity that throws the exception. This pauses execution before the exception propagates, allowing you to examine the Locals panel for the child workflow's scope. It does not require code changes and works even when the exception is handled in the parent.

Answer

Enable 'Break on Exception' and set it to break only on unhandled exceptions

Answer

Add a 'Try Catch' activity in the child workflow and log the variables in the Catch block

Answer

Use the 'Immediate' panel in the parent workflow to query child workflow variables

Question 12

You are debugging a UiPath automation that interacts with a web application. The workflow uses a 'Click' activity with a dynamic selector that includes a variable. During debugging, the activity fails with a 'Selector Not Found' error. You want to inspect the actual selector being used at runtime without modifying the workflow. Which debugging feature allows you to view the resolved selector string?

Accepted Answer

The 'UiPath Studio' output panel with 'Verbose' logging enabled. When debugging, enabling Verbose logging in the Output panel provides detailed execution logs, including the resolved selectors for UI activities. This is especially useful for dynamic selectors because it shows the actual string used at runtime. Other panels like Locals, Watch, or Immediate do not automatically display selector information. Therefore, the Output panel with Verbose logging is the correct choice.

Answer

The Locals panel

Answer

The Watch panel

Answer

The Immediate panel

Question 13

You are debugging a UiPath automation that uses a Try Catch activity. An exception is thrown inside the Try block, but the Catch block does not execute as expected. You suspect that the exception type is not being caught. Which debugging action should you take to verify the actual exception type being thrown?

Accepted Answer

Set a breakpoint on the activity that throws the exception and use the 'Locals' panel to inspect the exception object.. Enabling 'Break on Exception' in the Debug ribbon causes the debugger to pause immediately when an exception is thrown, regardless of whether it is handled. At that point, the Locals panel displays the exception object, including its type and message. This directly verifies the actual exception type, helping you adjust the Catch block to handle the correct exception class. This is the most reliable method to inspect exceptions during debugging.

Answer

Enable 'Break on Exception' in the Debug ribbon and run the workflow to pause when the exception is thrown.

Answer

Add a 'Log Message' activity at the beginning of the Catch block to log the exception's ToString method.

Answer

Use the 'Step Over' debugging action to skip the exception and continue execution.

Question 14

You are debugging a UiPath workflow that uses a Try Catch block. Inside the Try block, an exception is thrown, but the workflow continues without entering the Catch block. You have verified that the exception is not being handled elsewhere. Which debugging feature should you use to understand why the Catch block is not executing?

Accepted Answer

Check the 'Catch' block's exception type and ensure it matches the thrown exception, using the 'Immediate' panel to log the exception type.. A Catch block is only executed if its exception type matches or is a base class of the thrown exception. If the Catch specifies a derived type that does not match, it is skipped. By checking the Catch's exception type and logging the actual thrown type using the Immediate panel, you can identify the mismatch. This is more direct than other debugging features that do not address the handling logic.

Answer

Set a breakpoint on the Catch block and run in Debug mode to see if it is hit.

Answer

Use the 'Locals' panel to inspect the exception object and its type.

Answer

Enable 'Break on Exception' and run in Debug mode to see if the exception is thrown.

Question 15

You are debugging a UiPath automation that uses multiple nested Try Catch blocks. An exception is thrown deep within the nested blocks, but it is not being caught as expected. You suspect that the exception is being swallowed or rethrown incorrectly. Which two actions should you take to effectively diagnose the exception handling flow? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Use the 'Step Into' feature to step through the exception propagation.. To diagnose why an exception is not caught as expected in nested Try Catch blocks, you should set breakpoints on each Catch block to see which one handles it, and step through the exception propagation to observe the flow. These actions reveal the order of evaluation and any swallowing or rethrowing. Other options either alter behavior or provide only localized information.

Answer

Add a 'Rethrow' activity in every Catch block.

Answer

Enable 'Continue on Exception' in the debugger settings.

Answer

Inspect the 'Exception' property of the Catch block in the Locals panel.
