PRINCE2F Multiple Select — 20 Questions

Question 1

Which THREE of the following are PRINCE2 practices (themes)?

Accepted Answer

Risk. In PRINCE2, the seven themes (now called practices in PRINCE2 2017) describe aspects of project management that must be addressed continually, and Risk (B), Quality (D), and Business Case (E) are three of them. Risk (B) is correct because PRINCE2 requires a Risk theme/practice covering risk identification, assessment, and response throughout the project. Quality (D) is correct because the Quality theme/practice defines how the project will verify that products meet requirements and achieve fitness for purpose. Business Case (E) is correct because the Business Case theme/practice ensures the project remains desirable, viable, and achievable, justifying continued investment. Waterfall (A) is not a PRINCE2 theme but a sequential development approach, and Sprint Planning (C) is a Scrum event, not a PRINCE2 practice.

Answer

Waterfall

Answer

Sprint Planning

Question 2

Which TWO statements about the Change Authority are true?

Accepted Answer

It has the authority to approve changes within a defined limit. The Change Authority is a role defined in PRINCE2 that is granted the authority to approve changes within a defined limit, such as a cost or time threshold. This limit is typically set by the Project Board in the Project Initiation Documentation, and the Change Authority can be an individual (e.g., a senior user) or a group (e.g., a change board). Option A is incorrect because the Change Authority is defined in the Change Control Approach, not the Configuration Management Approach. Option D is incorrect because the Change Authority is not always the Project Manager; it is a separate role with delegated authority. Option E is incorrect because maintaining Configuration Item Records is the responsibility of the Configuration Librarian, not the Change Authority.

Answer

It is defined in the Configuration Management Approach

Answer

It is always the Project Manager

Answer

It is responsible for maintaining the Configuration Item Records

Question 3

Which THREE of the following are responsibilities of the Project Support role?

Accepted Answer

Assisting with planning and scheduling. Project Support provides administrative and support services, such as maintaining files, providing planning support, and managing project administration.

Answer

Providing independent assurance to the Project Board

Answer

Preparing the Highlight Report

Question 4

Which TWO of the following statements about the Executive role are correct?

Accepted Answer

The Executive chairs the Project Board. Option A is correct because in PRINCE2 the Executive is the senior responsible owner who chairs the Project Board, owning the 'business' perspective and being accountable for the project's success. Option D is correct because the Executive is specifically accountable for the Business Case, ensuring it demonstrates continuing business justification and viability throughout the project. Option B is incorrect because approving Work Packages is delegated to the Project Manager, not the Executive. Option C is incorrect because day-to-day management is the Project Manager's responsibility, not the Executive's. Option E is incorrect because the Executive is appointed by the commissioning organization before the project starts, during the Starting up a Project process, not after the Project Brief is approved.

Answer

The Executive approves all Work Packages

Answer

The Executive manages the project on a day-to-day basis

Answer

The Executive is appointed after the project brief is approved

Question 5

Which TWO of the following are activities performed in the Managing a Stage Boundary process?

Accepted Answer

Update the Business Case. In PRINCE2, the Managing a Stage Boundary process is triggered as the current stage nears completion and its purpose is to prepare the next stage plan and update the project's viability documentation for the Project Board. Option C (Update the Business Case) is correct because the Business Case must be reassessed and updated at each stage boundary to confirm the project remains viable and aligned with the benefits. Option D (Plan the next stage) is correct because producing the Next Stage Plan is a core activity of this process, along with producing an End Stage Report and requesting stage authorisation. Option A (Authorise a Work Package) belongs to Controlling a Stage, where the Project Manager authorises work packages to Team Managers. Option B (Produce the Project Brief) is part of Starting up a Project, and Option E (Deliver a product) is performed by the team during Managing Product Delivery.

Answer

Authorise a Work Package

Answer

Produce the Project Brief

Answer

Deliver a product

Question 6

Which THREE of the following are common reasons why projects fail, which PRINCE2 addresses?

Accepted Answer

Unclear project objectives. PRINCE2 mandates clear, measurable project objectives through its Business Case and Project Product Description management products. Unclear objectives are a leading cause of project failure, as they prevent effective planning and control. PRINCE2's focus on continued business justification ensures objectives remain aligned with organizational goals.

Answer

Budget overrun due to inflation

Answer

Technology failure

Question 7

Which THREE of the following are roles on the Project Board?

Accepted Answer

Senior Supplier. The Project Board in PRINCE2 is the management committee responsible for overall project direction and key decisions. The three mandatory roles on the Project Board are the Executive (who owns the business case), the Senior User (who represents the users' needs), and the Senior Supplier (who represents the supplier's interests). Option A is correct because the Senior Supplier is a core Project Board role, ensuring the supplier's resources and capabilities are aligned with project deliverables.

Answer

Project Support

Answer

Project Manager

Question 8

Which TWO of the following are correct statements about the Project Board?

Accepted Answer

The Project Board is accountable for the success of the project. The Project Board is accountable for the project's success (A) and provides unified direction to the project (D). Option B is incorrect because project assurance is a separate responsibility, and project support is provided by the Project Support role. Option C is false because the Project Board does not prepare Stage Plans; that is the Project Manager's responsibility. Option E is false because the Project Manager handles day-to-day management, not the Project Board.

Answer

The Project Board performs project assurance and project support

Answer

The Project Board prepares the Stage Plans

Answer

The Project Board is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project

Question 9

Which THREE of the following are responsibilities of the Project Manager during the Controlling a Stage process?

Accepted Answer

Authorizing Work Packages. During the Controlling a Stage process, the Project Manager authorizes Work Packages to assign work to Team Managers or team members, ensuring that the work is formally allocated and controlled. This authorization is a key responsibility to maintain alignment with the Stage Plan and manage the delivery of products.

Answer

Producing Checkpoint Reports

Answer

Reviewing the Business Case

Question 10

Which TWO are roles that are part of the Project Board?

Accepted Answer

Senior User. The Senior User (D) and the Executive (E) are two of the three mandatory roles on the PRINCE2 Project Board, alongside the Senior Supplier. The Executive is the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) who owns the business case and has ultimate authority, while the Senior User represents the interests of those who will use the project's outputs. These roles are defined in the PRINCE2 'Organization' theme and are essential for project governance.

Answer

Project Manager

Answer

Project Assurance

Answer

Team Manager

Question 11

Which TWO of the following are elements of a Work Package?

Accepted Answer

The product description(s) to be delivered. In PRINCE2, a Work Package is the authorization from the Project Manager to the Team Manager to deliver one or more products, and it must contain the product description(s) of what is to be delivered (Option A), since these define the scope, quality criteria, and acceptance requirements the team must meet. It must also include the reporting requirements for the Work Package (Option C), specifying what progress information the Team Manager must provide, in what format, and at what frequency, so the Project Manager can maintain control. Option B (the Business Case) is a project-level document owned by the Executive and justifying the project's continued viability, not a component of a Work Package. Option D (the project's risk register) is a project-level log maintained by the Project Manager; Work Packages may reference relevant risks but the register itself is not an element of the Work Package. Option E (the composition of the project team) is a resourcing/organizational matter handled through team management and the project's organization structure, not a defined element of a Work Package.

Answer

The Business Case

Answer

The project's risk register

Answer

The composition of the project team

Question 12

Which TWO of the following statements correctly describe the relationship between the Project Manager and Project Assurance?

Accepted Answer

Project Assurance is independent of the Project Manager. PRINCE2 mandates that Project Assurance is independent of the Project Manager to ensure objective oversight. Option C is correct because Project Assurance's primary role is to provide an independent view of the project's health, checking compliance with standards and business justification.

Answer

Project Assurance reports to the Project Manager

Answer

The Project Manager can assign Project Assurance tasks to themselves if resources are limited

Answer

The Project Manager can delegate Project Assurance duties to a Team Manager

Question 13

Which TWO of the following are components of the Project Initiation Documentation (PID)?

Accepted Answer

The Business Case. The Business Case (C) is a core component of the Project Initiation Documentation (PID) in PRINCE2, as it establishes the justification for the project by documenting the reasons, benefits, costs, risks, and timescales, and it must be approved before the project proceeds. The Project Plan (D) is also part of the PID, providing the high-level plan that describes how and when the project's objectives will be achieved, including the project's products, activities, and resources. The Risk Register (A) is not part of the PID; it is a separate document that is created and maintained throughout the project to record identified risks and their responses. The Lessons Log (B) is likewise a separate document used to capture lessons learned, not a PID component. The Team Manager (E) is a project role, not a document, and therefore cannot be a component of the PID.

Answer

The Risk Register

Answer

The Lessons Log

Answer

The Team Manager

Question 14

Which TWO documents are part of the Project Initiation Documentation?

Accepted Answer

Business Case. In PRINCE2, the Project Initiation Documentation (PID) is the baseline document set assembled during the Initiating a Project process, and the Business Case (option B) is a core component because it justifies the project's continued viability and is included in the PID's 'What is the business justification?' section. The Project Plan (option D) is also part of the PID, since it defines the project's scope, products, activities, resources, and tolerances and forms the baseline against which progress is measured. The Lessons Log (A), Quality Register (C), and Risk Register (E) are project registers/logs that are maintained alongside the project but are not themselves constituent documents of the PID.

Answer

Lessons Log

Answer

Quality Register

Answer

Risk Register

Question 15

Which THREE of the following are steps in the PRINCE2 risk management procedure?

Accepted Answer

Plan. The risk management procedure steps are: Identify, Assess, Plan, Implement, Communicate.

Answer

Monitor

Answer

Analyze

Question 16

Which TWO of the following are purposes of the Managing Product Delivery process?

Accepted Answer

To accept and execute Work Packages. Option B is correct because Managing Product Delivery is the process in which the Team Manager accepts Work Packages from the Project Manager and then executes the assigned work, ensuring the products are produced to the agreed requirements. Option E is correct because this process also covers delivering the completed products back to the Project Manager for approval and acceptance, closing the loop on the Work Package. Option A is incorrect because planning the next stage is part of Managing a Stage Boundary, not Managing Product Delivery. Option C is incorrect because managing stage boundaries is the purpose of the Managing a Stage Boundary process. Option D is incorrect because closing the project is the purpose of the Closing a Project process.

Answer

To plan the next stage

Answer

To manage stage boundaries

Answer

To close the project

Question 17

Which THREE of the following are true about the role of the Team Manager in PRINCE2?

Accepted Answer

Manages the delivery of one or more Work Packages. The Team Manager is responsible for the delivery of one or more Work Packages, which are defined by the Project Manager. The Team Manager coordinates the team's work, ensures quality, and reports progress back to the Project Manager. This role is focused on the technical execution of assigned work packages within the project.

Answer

Is accountable for the management of the entire stage

Answer

Is a member of the Project Board

Question 18

Which THREE of the following are characteristics of PRINCE2's product-based planning approach?

Accepted Answer

It uses a Product Breakdown Structure. Product-based planning in PRINCE2 begins by identifying the products the project must deliver, and option A is correct because it uses a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) to hierarchically decompose the final product into its component products. Option C is correct because it creates a Product Flow Diagram (PFD) to show the sequence and dependencies between products, i.e., which products must be produced before others. Option D is correct because it creates a Product Description for each product, documenting its purpose, composition, quality criteria, and quality method. Option B is not a characteristic of product-based planning; products are not prioritised by quality criteria, which are instead defined within each Product Description. Option E is incorrect because product-based planning starts by identifying products, not activities — activities are derived from the products and their dependencies.

Answer

It prioritises products based on their quality criteria

Answer

It starts by identifying activities and then determines products

Question 19

Which TWO of the following statements about the Project Board are correct?

Accepted Answer

The Project Board meets only when decisions are required (exception-driven). The Project Board in PRINCE2 is designed to be an exception-driven body; it convenes only when decisions are required, such as approving stage plans or exception plans, rather than on a fixed schedule. This aligns with the PRINCE2 principle of management by exception, where the board delegates day-to-day management to the Project Manager and escalates only when tolerances are forecast to be exceeded.

Answer

The Project Board meets on a regular basis (e.g., weekly)

Answer

The Senior User chairs the Project Board

Answer

The Project Board authorizes the Work Packages

Question 20

Which THREE of the following are activities performed during the Directing a Project process?

Accepted Answer

Authorise a Stage Plan or Exception Plan. In PRINCE2, the Directing a Project (DP) process is the responsibility of the Project Board and includes the activity 'Authorise initiation' (D), where the Board approves the Project Brief and the initiation stage can begin. It also includes 'Authorise the project' (E), where the Board approves the Project Initiation Documentation and commits to the project. A third DP activity is 'Authorise a Stage Plan or Exception Plan' (C), where the Board approves the next stage plan or an exception plan before work continues. Option A (Authorise a Work Package) is performed by the Project Manager in the Controlling a Stage process, and option B (Produce the Highlight Report) is also a Project Manager activity in Controlling a Stage, so neither belongs to Directing a Project.

Answer

Authorise a Work Package

Answer

Produce the Highlight Report
