PRINCE2F Exam Simulation — 60 Questions

Question 1

Which THREE of the following are PRINCE2 practices (themes)?

Accepted Answer

Risk. In PRINCE2, the seven themes (now called practices in PRINCE2 2017) describe aspects of project management that must be addressed continually, and Risk (B), Quality (D), and Business Case (E) are three of them. Risk (B) is correct because PRINCE2 requires a Risk theme/practice covering risk identification, assessment, and response throughout the project. Quality (D) is correct because the Quality theme/practice defines how the project will verify that products meet requirements and achieve fitness for purpose. Business Case (E) is correct because the Business Case theme/practice ensures the project remains desirable, viable, and achievable, justifying continued investment. Waterfall (A) is not a PRINCE2 theme but a sequential development approach, and Sprint Planning (C) is a Scrum event, not a PRINCE2 practice.

Answer

Waterfall

Answer

Sprint Planning

Question 2

Which of the following is a key difference between a Request for Change and an Off-specification?

Accepted Answer

A Request for Change proposes a modification to an agreed product, while an Off-specification identifies a product that does not meet its specification.. In PRINCE2, a Request for Change (RFC) is a proposal to modify an already baselined product, while an Off-specification is a report that a product has been delivered but does not meet its agreed specification. Both are issue types recorded in the Issue Register, but their nature differs: RFCs are proactive change proposals, Off-specifications are reactive quality failures.

Answer

A Request for Change always has a cost and time impact, while an Off-specification never does.

Answer

A Request for Change is recorded in the Issue Register, while an Off-specification is recorded in the Risk Register.

Answer

A Request for Change does not require authorization, while an Off-specification does.

Question 3

Who chairs the Project Board meetings in PRINCE2?

Accepted Answer

Which PRINCE2 process is triggered by the Project Mandate and produces the Project Brief?

Accepted Answer

Starting Up a Project. The Starting Up a Project process is triggered by the Project Mandate and produces the Project Brief. This process ensures that the project has a viable business case and that the necessary resources and stakeholders are identified before any detailed planning begins. The Project Brief is the key output that summarizes the project's justification, scope, and approach, serving as the foundation for the Initiating a Project process.

Answer

Managing a Stage Boundary

Answer

Directing a Project

Answer

Initiating a Project

Question 5

The Project Board delegates authority to approve changes that are within a certain budget to a Change Authority. The Project Manager receives a Request for Change that is within this budget but will affect a configuration item that is not under the Change Authority's scope. What should the Project Manager do?

Accepted Answer

Refer the change to the Project Board for decision. The Change Authority's delegated authority is limited to changes within a certain budget and within its scope. Since this change affects a configuration item not under the Change Authority's scope, it falls outside their authority. Therefore, the Project Manager must refer the change to the Project Board for a decision.

Answer

Approve the change using the Change Budget

Answer

Reject the change because it affects a configuration item

Answer

Ask the Change Authority to decide

Question 6

Answer

Senior User

Answer

Question 7

Why does PRINCE2 separate the role of Project Manager from Project Assurance?

Accepted Answer

To allow the Project Manager to focus on day-to-day management while assurance is independent. PRINCE2 separates the role of Project Manager from Project Assurance to ensure that assurance activities are performed independently of day-to-day management. This allows the Project Manager to focus on delivering the project's products and managing the team, while Project Assurance provides an objective check that the project remains viable, compliant with standards, and aligned with business expectations. The independence prevents conflicts of interest and ensures that assurance is not compromised by the pressures of daily project work.

Answer

To reduce the workload of the Project Manager

Answer

To avoid the need for quality reviews

Answer

To ensure that the Project Board has direct control over the team

Question 8

Drag and drop the steps to handle an issue in PRINCE2 into the correct order.

Accepted Answer

Capture, Examine, Propose options, Decide, Implement. The correct order for handling an issue in PRINCE2 is: Capture the issue, Examine it to understand its impact, Propose options to resolve it, Decide on the best option, and Implement the decision. This sequence ensures logical progression from identification to resolution.

Answer

Capture, Propose options, Examine, Decide, Implement

Answer

Capture, Examine, Decide, Propose options, Implement

Answer

Capture, Decide, Examine, Propose options, Implement

Question 9

The Project Manager has produced an End Stage Report for the current stage. According to PRINCE2, what is the next step?

Accepted Answer

Submit the report to the Project Board for a decision on whether to proceed. In PRINCE2, the End Stage Report is produced by the Project Manager to provide the Project Board with a summary of the stage's performance. The next step is to submit this report to the Project Board, which then decides whether to authorize the next stage, amend the project, or stop the project. Option D correctly reflects this governance checkpoint, as the Project Board holds the authority to approve continued investment.

Answer

Update the Business Case and close the project

Answer

Distribute the report to stakeholders and continue to the next stage

Answer

Seek approval from the Executive to continue

Question 10

During the Managing Product Delivery process, the Team Manager completes a product. What should happen next?

Accepted Answer

The Team Manager updates the Quality Register and informs the Project Manager. In PRINCE2, when a Team Manager completes a product within a Work Package, the product must go through quality control and the Quality Register must be updated to record the quality activities and results. The Team Manager then informs the Project Manager, who is responsible for confirming the product's completion and updating the Stage Plan and other management products.

Answer

The Team Manager delivers the product to the customer directly

Answer

The Project Board approves the product immediately

Answer

The product is automatically accepted and the Work Package is closed

Question 11

Which TWO statements about the Change Authority are true?

Accepted Answer

It has the authority to approve changes within a defined limit. The Change Authority is a role defined in PRINCE2 that is granted the authority to approve changes within a defined limit, such as a cost or time threshold. This limit is typically set by the Project Board in the Project Initiation Documentation, and the Change Authority can be an individual (e.g., a senior user) or a group (e.g., a change board). Option A is incorrect because the Change Authority is defined in the Change Control Approach, not the Configuration Management Approach. Option D is incorrect because the Change Authority is not always the Project Manager; it is a separate role with delegated authority. Option E is incorrect because maintaining Configuration Item Records is the responsibility of the Configuration Librarian, not the Change Authority.

Answer

It is defined in the Configuration Management Approach

Answer

It is always the Project Manager

Answer

It is responsible for maintaining the Configuration Item Records

Question 19

Which TWO of the following statements about the Executive role are correct?

Accepted Answer

The Executive chairs the Project Board. Option A is correct because in PRINCE2 the Executive is the senior responsible owner who chairs the Project Board, owning the 'business' perspective and being accountable for the project's success. Option D is correct because the Executive is specifically accountable for the Business Case, ensuring it demonstrates continuing business justification and viability throughout the project. Option B is incorrect because approving Work Packages is delegated to the Project Manager, not the Executive. Option C is incorrect because day-to-day management is the Project Manager's responsibility, not the Executive's. Option E is incorrect because the Executive is appointed by the commissioning organization before the project starts, during the Starting up a Project process, not after the Project Brief is approved.

Answer

The Executive approves all Work Packages

The Executive manages the project on a day-to-day basis

Answer

The Executive is appointed after the project brief is approved

The Checkpoint Report is produced by the Team Manager for the Project Manager, detailing progress against the Work Package. This distinction in audience and purpose is a core PRINCE2 principle.

Answer

The Checkpoint Report is produced by the Project Manager, while the Highlight Report is produced by the Team Manager

Answer

The Highlight Report is produced at the end of each stage, while the Checkpoint Report is produced monthly

Answer
