Use cleartext passwords in backup configuration files.

Question 2

An administrator wants to audit all CLI commands executed by users on the BIG-IP system. Which feature should be configured to ensure comprehensive logging of administrative actions?

Accepted Answer

Configure Audit Logging in System Logs.. Auditing is a cornerstone of control plane management. By enabling the bash auditing feature, the system logs every command executed in the shell to the syslog facility. This provides a forensic trail of administrative activity. Ensuring these logs are forwarded to a centralized logging server is vital for compliance and incident response, allowing administrators to review activities performed on the system during potential security incidents.

Answer

Enable remote SSH logging in the device profile.

Answer

Set up SNMP traps for every command.

Answer

Install a third-party kernel monitor.

Question 3

Which THREE items are considered part of the BIG-IP control plane and should be regularly backed up to ensure disaster recovery?

Accepted Answer

The User Configuration Set (UCS) file.. Backing up the control plane is vital for recovering from system failure. The UCS file, configuration archives, and SSL certificates represent the core of the system configuration. Without these, restoring a device to its operational state is impossible. Administrators must ensure these are stored securely off-box to meet recovery time objectives, as they contain the identity, security posture, and logical topology required for the unit to function.

Answer

The raw data packets in memory.

System logs and audit trails.

Question 4

Refer to the exhibit. An administrator attempts to run 'tmsh show sys hardware' but receives no output. What is the most likely cause for this behavior?

Accepted Answer

The system's management daemons are unresponsive.. The failure to display hardware information suggests a disruption in the control plane communication with the underlying hardware abstraction layer or the system's management processes. This often indicates a corrupted process or a failure in the communication pipeline between the tmsh CLI and the system hardware monitors. It is a serious indicator that the management plane is degraded, requiring immediate investigation of service health.

The user lacks the 'Administrator' role.

Answer

The system is running on a virtual machine.

Answer

The terminal emulator is blocking the output.

Question 5

Which THREE factors are required to successfully establish trust between BIG-IP systems for device service clustering (DSC)?

Accepted Answer

Exchange of root certificates.. Establishing a trust relationship is the foundation of HA clustering. It requires a mutual exchange of device certificates, ensuring that each system can verify the identity of its peers. Without proper trust, the systems cannot securely synchronize configurations or perform stateful failover. This process is essential for maintaining a secure and reliable HA cluster, as it prevents unauthorized devices from joining or interfering with the operational cluster.

Answer

Shared administrative credentials.

Answer

Identical traffic profiles.

Question 6

Which tool should an administrator use to verify the overall health and status of the BIG-IP management daemons?

Accepted Answer

tmsh show sys service. The 'bigstart' utility is the primary tool for managing services on the BIG-IP system. It allows administrators to check the status of critical daemons and restart them if necessary. Being familiar with 'bigstart' is a core skill for any BIG-IP administrator, as it provides the most direct way to diagnose and remediate issues within the system's background management services.

Question 9

An administrator is planning an out-of-band management network design for a pair of high-availability BIG-IP devices. Which THREE considerations must be addressed when configuring the management port (MGMT)? (Choose three)

Accepted Answer

The management interface utilizes a dedicated routing table completely isolated from data plane traffic.. Designing a reliable out-of-band management network requires careful planning around routing isolation, access security, and platform addressing. Ensuring the management interface operates independently from data plane traffic prevents administrative lockouts during denial-of-service attacks or network partitions. Proper control plane segmentation is a foundational architectural best practice.

Answer

High availability configuration sync traffic automatically traverses the management interface by default.

Answer

The management interface automatically participates in floating traffic group IP failover events.

Question 10

An administrator needs to perform a maintenance operation that requires restarting the BIG-IP services. Which TWO actions must be considered to maintain control plane integrity and system availability?

Accepted Answer

Ensure the configuration is synchronized across the device group.. Proper maintenance requires ensuring that the configuration is synchronized and that service restarts do not cause unexpected failover. Understanding the impact of 'bigstart' or full system restarts is crucial for F5 administrators to avoid downtime. By verifying sync status and controlling the HA state, the administrator ensures that the high-availability pair remains stable and that the standby unit is prepared to take over the traffic load seamlessly.

Answer

Verify that the HA state is 'active' on both units.

Answer

Force the standby unit to active before restarting services.

Answer

Disable the management network interface during restart.

Question 11

When configuring SNMP for monitoring the BIG-IP system, which THREE considerations must be addressed to ensure secure and effective control plane monitoring?

Accepted Answer

Use SNMPv3 for authentication and encryption.. Configuring SNMP requires balancing monitoring visibility with security. Administrators must ensure that community strings are secure (or use SNMPv3), that the management interface is protected from unauthorized SNMP requests, and that the appropriate MIBs are loaded. Proper SNMP configuration is vital for proactive monitoring, allowing administrators to receive alerts and performance metrics necessary for maintaining the control plane's health and reacting to potential issues before they cause service outages.

System > Device Certificates

Question 14

Which TWO of the following are considered best practices for maintaining a healthy and secure BIG-IP control plane?

Accepted Answer

Keep the BIG-IP software updated with the latest engineering hotfixes.. Maintaining a healthy control plane involves proactive management, such as keeping software updated and ensuring that administrative access is restricted to authorized personnel. These practices minimize the risk of security breaches and operational failures. By following F5's recommended maintenance guidelines, administrators ensure the system remains stable, secure, and ready to handle traffic without unexpected management-plane interference or unauthorized access.

Answer

Use a single shared administrator account for all team members.

Answer

Store all UCS backups on the same partition as the configuration.

Answer

Allow unrestricted SSH access from any internal network.

Question 15

Refer to the exhibit. The administrator notices multiple PIDs for the httpd service. Why does the BIG-IP system run multiple httpd processes?

Accepted Answer

The architecture utilizes a prefork model to handle multiple concurrent administrative GUI connections.. The BIG-IP system uses a multi-process architecture for the httpd daemon to handle concurrent administrative sessions and provide process resilience. Each process handles distinct requests to the Configuration Utility. This architecture prevents a single malformed request or session-related crash from taking down the entire web interface, thereby maintaining high availability for control plane operations and ensuring that administrative tasks can continue without interruption or system-wide service failure.

Answer

Each PID represents a separate partition managed by the httpd process.

Answer

The system is in a failed state due to excessive memory consumption of the httpd service.

Answer

Each PID corresponds to a different administrative role defined in the system.

Question 16

Which THREE actions should be performed during a control plane hardening process?

Accepted Answer

Disable the default 'admin' account and create a custom administrative user.. Hardening the control plane reduces the attack surface of the BIG-IP device. By disabling unused services, limiting management access, and enforcing strong authentication, an administrator prevents unauthorized access to the configuration database. These steps are vital because the control plane is the 'brain' of the appliance; if compromised, an attacker can manipulate traffic flows, steal cryptographic keys, or disable security policies, leading to a complete compromise of the application delivery infrastructure.

Answer

Enable shell access for all administrative users by default.

Answer

Allow anonymous SSH access to facilitate rapid troubleshooting.

Question 17

An administrator needs to modify the Master Key Encryption Password on an active BIG-system without disrupting active user traffic passing through the virtual servers. Which procedure ensures successful master key rotation while maintaining high availability operations?

Accepted Answer

Run the prompt-based utility 'f5mku -r' on the active unit, enter the existing master key, supply the new passphrase, and subsequently execute a manual configuration sync to push the updated master key file to the peer device.. Rotating the master key requires specific administrative commands that re-encrypt the master key file using the new passphrase while keeping active daemons running. Doing this correctly prevents decryption failures during configuration reloads and ensures persistent storage remains synchronized across high availability sync-failover peer devices without triggering unexpected failover events.

Answer

Modify the mcpd configuration file directly using a text editor to update the hashed password string, then restart the management daemon using the command 'tmsh restart /sys service mcpd'.

Answer

Execute the UCS archive generation command including the private keys flag, decrypt the archive offline using third-party tools, inject the new master key string, and restore the UCS archive.

Answer

Perform a forced failover to the standby unit, apply the new master key on the newly active device using the tmsh utility, and wait for automatic synchronization to propagate the keys.

Question 18

An administrator is planning to upgrade the BIG-IP software on a production device. As part of the pre-upgrade checklist, the administrator must ensure that the control plane configuration is properly backed up and that the upgrade process will not be disrupted by configuration issues. Which two actions should the administrator take before starting the upgrade? (Choose two.)

Accepted Answer

Verify that the running configuration is saved with 'save sys config'.. The correct answers are A and C. Creating a UCS archive provides a full backup of the configuration, and saving the running configuration ensures that all changes are persisted. Together, these actions protect the control plane configuration and ensure a smooth upgrade process. The other options are either not required or could introduce risk.

Answer

Disable the mcpd daemon to prevent configuration changes during the upgrade.

Answer

Delete all unused configuration objects to reduce the configuration size.

/var/local/ucs

Question 20

A BIG-IP administrator is troubleshooting a configuration sync issue between two devices in a device group. The administrator suspects that the configuration on one device has not been fully synchronized because the change was made directly to the configuration file instead of through the traffic management shell (TMSH). Which control plane component is responsible for validating and distributing configuration changes across the device group?

Accepted Answer

cbrd. cbrd is responsible for synchronizing configuration data between BIG-IP devices in a device group. It receives validated configuration changes from mcpd and distributes them to peer devices. The other options are either client tools (tmsh) or daemons with different roles (mcpd, devd), so cbrd is the correct answer.

Answer

mcpd

Answer

tmsh

Answer

devd
